As always, I'm there...I'm Pintastic's biggest fan (and official Pintastic Pain in the Ass!).
Quoted from too-many-pins:
The thing that gets me with people bitching about a hotel or motel room is you are renting the thing for a couple nights not buying the place. As long as things are reasonably clean and there are no bugs who really cares!
When I stay in a hotel or motel I am awake in the room for maybe an hour total each day. Most of that time is getting ready in the AM or getting ready for bed at night. The last 3 or 4 times we rented a room we never even turned the TV on - there is way too much other stuff to do to sit around watching TV when you are away for home!
Exactly! Who the furk cares about the TV or anything else. I'm literally in the room for a total of about 9 hours, and I'm sleeping for 8 and a half of those. I haven't come back with an infection or bed bugs, and the price is right. And the show is awesome which makes it even more bearable. I have no complaints! (Great breakfasts there, too!)
Have I mentioned recently how much I love this show? Can't wait...it's always a great time. And my daughter, husband, their baby and dog are all coming. 3 generations of Boobs. (Is that gonna hurt ticket sales?)
Quoted from dannunz:
We have added a few new people to the team this year. Joel Guzman is our new graphic designer. Also Andy Stevens is our new programmer. Of course Gerard is still over seeing the whole web site design and operation. We are very lucky to have so many talented people on our team.
Don't you have a flight to catch?
Quoted from Lermods:
After a very successful time at TPF, we are going to have a booth at Pintastic.
Anyone recommend a nearby hotel or two?
Also, if anyone is bringing a hobbit or woz, we have some lighting mods we can supply for free if you are willing to display them in your game.
We also have some under Cabinet lighting we can give away for some modern sterns (non spike) and a few BW games Like funhouse and sttng. Contact me for info.
Gabe is there at pintastic. He can fill you in. You can't miss him. He's the one wearing the pintastic New England t-shirt and hat in the middle of Texas.
The show is held in the sturbridge host hotel so just book a room there. It's a shorter distance to stumble back to your room at night.
Volunteered two years ago and caught a shifty woman and her two spawn trying to sneak in the back door. Escorted her to the ticket counter to pay the full fare.
And THAT'S the only reason Gabe likes me, if anybody was wondering.
Quoted from shlockdoc:
Someone to MC the night. Create a more social atmosphere, maybe a fun game show for goofy prizes and free drinks. It is very insulated and clicky and does not really create an environment to meet and greet. It is free grub and go. Sorry you asked.
He had me at "free."
Looks like you might want to increase that order on the glasses, Gabe. Those things will be presold before the show even starts. Worst case, you order too many and just sell the remainder the following year.
Quoted from CrazyLevi:
You'll all be thrilled to learn I've decided to put away my reservations and made a reservation at the beautiful Sturbridge Hotel and Resort! It was the VIP Lounge / afterparty pass that swayed me! (and also the fact that Super 8 is sold out).
I've decided to embrace it! The place is certainly a musty old party, and it's kind of like the resort in Hot Tub Time Machine and I love that movie!
See you all there! Pintastic is right up there with Allentown and it's more of a party thanks to the gigantic liquor depot next door selling booze by the gallon cheap as dirt. This is a great show, not to be missed.
Exactly. You're hardly ever in your room. When you are and if you notice the musty smell, you haven't been drinking enough.
Quoted from dannunz:
VIP lounge experience the wonder of it all. Thursday 8pm to 6am Friday and Saturday 10pm to 6am
No wonder guys look like crap the next morning. 6 AM???
I get a wonderful night's sleep in my smelly room (I don't notice it when I'm asleep), and I'm one of the first at the awesome breakfast buffet the next morning.
I'm so excited for this show that I feel like a little girl.
Quoted from joeraptor2003:
I picked the wrong time to go on a diet..
You can buy a whole pig for 72 bucks...
Imagine bringing that into the show.
BBQ is protein...go for it. I'm on a diet now, and I fully plan on eating at the Smokehouse. (Just skip the breads...that shit'll go right to my hips!)
Quoted from weasley:
Super excited for this. Hopefully by the end of the weekend I will own my first machine.
Awesome. I was looking for something to do while I'm there. I'll just follow you around and buy up any machine you're interested in.
Shirts look awesome, Gabe! And is anybody else super stoked about playing Star Wars this weekend? It's like a cherry on top of the big ol' Pintastic sundae o' fun!!!
I want to wish Gabe and the entire Pintastic team a wonderful show. Gabe puts his heart and soul into this every year, and his passion shows. If you're anywhere within spitting distance of Sturbridge you owe it to yourself to make the trip with the whole family. Don't worry...there's stuff for the kids, too, which sets this show apart. I'll be up tomorrow by noon, and more of my family come every year. 2 the first year, 4 the second, 5 this year (and we almost had 8!).
Looking forward to seeing all of you there, and if I've done anything to offend you on Pinside this past year, please give me a warning so I can get a running start.
And somebody please keep @taxman the hell away from me.
Quoted from Colsond3:
Right now...just go into the bathroom to the left, middle stall and tap your foot. Beelzeboob will "hand it" to you.
Stop by my "Glory, Glory Hole-a-lujah!" stand in the flea market and I'll show you some VIP treatment.
Quoted from Matesamo:
I have done that three times already and he still hasn't given them to me! Lol
Not there yet...
Quoted from 1974DeltaQueen:
BT Smokehouse review: not my cup of tea or the wife's. Brisket and ribs had a lot if fat and were dry. Without the sauce I chugged a 32 ounce Gatorade to flush things down. Cornbread was good we both liked that. Staff was very friendly and looked like their jobs didnt suck. Place looked clean and it was hopping. Hindsight for 25$ I'd probably order Chinese next time. Try it for yourself I will not be badmouthing them, maybe I'm off.
Pintastic Review: absolutely awesome! Great lineup of pins spanning 80 years. Had a tech fixing chit left and right. His wife was cleaning all the glass in free play, that was IMPRESSIVE. I didn't see any unhappy campers, smiles everywhere! Great games in the tournament, free play, vendor hall. Simply put you can tell Gabe put his heart into this show. The staff were all on point but not pushy, great to see. Huge selection of merchandise, please support this show ! This Pinsider gives it 2 thumbs way up!
You must have walking in the BBQ joint when my family were eating right by the door. We thought it was great, but not as good as the stuff we had near TPF in Dallas last year (but hey!...that's Texas, so it's really not fair!).
Pintastic is a wonderful show...everybody should try it at least once!
Quoted from embryonjohn:
Man did that food fly out of the VIP buffet. It was a tale of the have and have nots. People piled 20 plus wings on their plate, a sandwich, pizza, brats and so on. On one plate... For one person...
and the rest were scrum'n for the parsley garnish. Me, I got the next to last slice of pizza and bourbon
I didn't get dick. Party was supposed to start at 10, and the line was out the door at 9:30. But I don't care because I'm on a diet. So thanks, Gabe! You really did me a solid and helped a brother out.
And then you had to make it up to everybody and order like 50 pizzas...
Even when something goes wrong, Gabe makes it right.
Best. Show. Ever.
Quoted from 1974DeltaQueen:
Some pics from today, my card Trix held up got a lot of action. Bob Adams indoor Vendor/ Flea Spot ROCKED !
I just want to say that the balloon hat on that little girl in the second to last pic is entirely inappropriate.
Quoted from Colsond3:
Great show...few games of SW with Beelzeboob and got to play a game of BSD with Barry Oursler!
So honored to have made your highlights...or even that you remember it after getting wasted with @yfzguy . But that hardly qualified as me playing a game of SW with you. The way I was playing I might as well have been playing with myself. Pathetic. (The game did play much better this morning with no cheap drains from the mystery hole, so it must have been the setup!)
Quoted from Chicoman:
Star Wars - Had a great game on it almost 700Mil but to me the game was just ok. Nothing special...it's classic Ritchie...super fast, great flow and non-stop but the playfield.....UGH! Maybe the Premium and LE will have better appeal but as a huge Star Wars fan who had my hand on the trigger to buy I'm glad I didn't.
You'll change your mind once you play someone else's in a home environment. You really can't appreciate it with tons of people milling around and all the background noise. REALLY great game.
My rule of thumb: Pinball shows on a Saturday generally suck. I try to get there for Friday all day, whether it's Allentown, Pintastic, or whatever. Once the rabble get off work and bring their families to see what this "pinball thing" is all about, I like to already be in my car on the way home.
So, Taxman...why don't you just come for your half hour on Saturday next year, and you can avoid me altogether? You don't have to be mean just because I refused to get wit' you...
Quoted from zombieyeti:
Just wanted to give a huuuuge thank you to pinside for helping allow me to get where I am in this crazy pinball world so that I can give another huuuuge thanks to Gabe and Gerard for having me out!
Had an amazing time meeting and making friends with so many great folks while taking every opportunity to make questionable jokes and misleading answers!
It was really a great show and a great space to be at - look forward to the future of the show!
Now I say this while omitting that being there did result in my wife getting a black eye thanks to my youngest daughters unweildly putting skills, BUT she's ok and I'm certain it'll make for a great story for years to come ?
So this is me on the left, and that's you on the right. But I didn't know that was you on the right because a) I'm blonde and things take time to register for me and; b) I didn't notice your poster lying on the table right next to you. So I had to get Joe to get you to sign a poster for me. But I wanted to apologize in person for saying GB looks like clown puke (even though you had a great comeback for it) and give you the opportunity to offer me some free...uh..."dental work." But art IS subjective, as I'm sure you'll agree, and I do respect what you do (because I can't draw stick figures) and thank you for your contribution to pinball. I hope to allow you to get even with me sometime in the future!
Quoted from yzfguy:
As always, I had a great time. I generally spend about 75% of the time at the show talking to (okay..... Drinking with) all of the cool people I have met the this hobby. I mean, of course there are the ones you can't stand, but get stuck with (cough.... Beelzeboob).
I barely saw you.
Quoted from Daniml:
You're right, it wasn't very much fun ... especially dragging them back to the vendor hall the next morning at 6:30a. All that hard work seemed to be appreciated by those that had access so "thank you" for your assistance! Considering there were more than a few die-hards that played till the 6:00a closing (over a dozen on Sat/Sun according to hotel security) this is something we'll definitely consider for next years show.
Dan, you and all the volunteers did an awesome job this year. Thanks for all your hard work, and it was great to see you again!
Quoted from Schnollms:
Ok guys I wasn't at the show and have never been to pintastic, and in all honesty I don't think i will. I know it's an amazing show, lots of activities to keep young children entertained, stuff like that but as 1974deltaqueen mentioned that's just not for me or my family or any other dealer who's really into the EM's and I don't associate that with pinball shows in my opinion. I've talked to MANY people who seemed more excited about the show being held in a fancy ballroom and that it was near pools and lakes rather than the content of the show. At least from the pics I saw, there's some nice wedghead titles but it still doesn't seem to be that type of show. The flea market seemed to have been a dog and I think it needs to be more of an Allentown type show (lots of EMs, an indoor flea market with EMs) and that's centrally located (like how Pinfest is just 1 hr from philly and 90 mins from NYC and near many highways that bring the pinheads together). This is a general statement but a lot of pinheads tend to also come from the Midwest or the south and probably won't go up to MA. I know a lot of pinheads travel 5 hours+ to go to a show but I'm pretty much local and 2.5 hours is far to go to a show that (in all fairness, no offense) does not seem to have a large assortment of wedgeheads and a growing flea market like pinfest. 2017 was our 5th straight year set up at Pinfest and hopefully 2018 will be my 6th. Now in regards to show dates, the heart of summer (end of June, all of July and August) just isn't my time of year for shows; even if pintastic is a great show (which I'm sure it is). That's why I can't make the Saratoga show since I'll be in Vegas. I think that (so you don't compete with York or Allentown) early spring (like march) or late fall (November/December) is prime. I miss Ivan's fall show and would certainly go to one.
Your loss. Sound like you're only trying to go to one type of show, and that can get boring pretty quickly. Pintastic is the ONLY show that my whole family gets excited about going to, and it gets better every year. To each his own, I suppose.
