Well, that depends on how much you actually value the playfield.
I usually ship used playfields that aren't worth much, so nobody wants to spend an extra $50+ on just packing materials. What I usually do is put pool noodles on all the edges, shrink wrap it with several layers, wrap it a couple layers of bubble wrap, put insulation foam board on the front and back, then wrap it in cardboard (I cut up the large boxes from home depot). A bit of work, but it's only a few bucks in packing materials and the materials don't add much weight.
