Quoted from dmarston:We would like to have a balance among the various ages and types of pinball games. For 2018, it looks like we will get lots of 1960s games, based on advanced registrations, but not too many 1950s. That is similar to prior years. Bonus points encourage those 1950s games. (BTW, I'm an EM collector, too.)
If you can find Christian Marche and persuade him to come as a Guest Artist, all the games that have his art would get Bonus Points that year. That would be lots of 1960s games, and many are surprised to discover that he did the art for Delta Queen!
The Bonus Point system will be tweaked from year to year, but it will always work as an incentive to draw out game categories that aren't being supplied sufficiently through the natural inclinations of the game bringers.

Christian Marche ? I thought he died about 10 years ago. Wayne Neyens is still
Alive but he’s very old and probably couldn’t travel,
Quick Paul Faris story
Paul was the art chair at the local high school where my daughter attended
She is a brainiac and never had an opening for an elective or art class until her senior year
Paul happened to be her instructor
I knew his history and background and she said that he brought some of his pinball art into class and shared with the students
One of her art pieces won an award at the school so Paul was hosting or was the Master of Ceremonies for the awards night
I told my daughter I was gonna bring a whole bunch of shit for him to sign.....
She was like, dad, please don't embarrass me..... haha
When the awards were presented to all the kids he discussed not only the art piece that was being recognized but he talked about each student and several of their art pieces that they had done through the year, he knew each kid individually, and spoke of their journey and accomplishments, he did an awesome job, you could tell he enjoyed his job and was vested in what he taught the students.
Anyway long story short
When I finally introduced myself I said Hi, I'm .......... father, he complemented me on my daughter and said that she made him cry in class, evidently my daughter and one of her classmates, sang a song in his class (she was in choir and musicals etc), we spoke for awhile and I told him that there was a bunch of talented kids / artists in his class, I said I see lots of skulls, crosses and swords but no centaurs.....
He did a double take... and said, do you know?
I said, oh... I know!
His face light up!! and immediately he started talking about his time spent in the industry (it was an awesome moment)
We talked about pinball expo and he was surprised that my daughter and I had attended
You could tell by his face that discussing pinball was the good old days for him
Such a great guy
Poster looks awesome!
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it
Awesome story for you to share My wife loves her Phantom of the opera. Paul's daughter is on the backglass. We would like to meet him in person.
If anyone at the show has a Gottlieb A-9735 coil (100 pt relay for a spirit of 76) send me a message. I had a ball hang up on top of a 100pt switch and burnt up the relay coil...of course I don't have one here.

Aardvark has a booth in the vendor hall.

Was wondering why I couldn't play today. Hopefully the vendors have one tomorrow?
Quoted from Matesamo:Sure, if you cover the shipping costs I can priority mail one to you in a priority tri-box.
Done! If you can get Mr Faris autograph on it, too, that would be awesome! PM me to confirm and hammer out details.
It will look great next to such greats as Pinsanity, dirty Donnie Wizard blacklight, Pin a go go, etc, etc!

I wish I was there to get things signed, his work is epic.

20180629102836607-1 (resized).jpgThanks for the pictures. Got some boards repaired and bought a VPCabs Vertigo for my home office. Fun day - thanks to all who brought their games, we all know they are heavy, awkward and bulky.
Thanks to everyone who helps setup the show and all the folks behind the scenes.

Hows the show overall? Are there a lot of EMs?
Quoted from Schnollms:Are there a lot of EMs?
A fair amount. Take a look through some of the batches of photos I've posted.
Quoted from ForceFlow:Yes, that firepower plays like a dream and looks great!
Quoted from Langless28:Played your restored firepower. Looks amazing.
Wow, thank you both! Definitely very humbled from all of the positive feedback i've gotten.
By the way, I am selling my original backless and legs for quite cheap...I just can't stand out there at the flea market all day! If anyone is interested, just send me a PM off topic.
Quoted from ForceFlow:I have an RFM on free play running version 1.9--has anyone noticed any differences from 1.6?
Sorry - don’t know enough about this pin to know the difference between versions but both RFM’s I played were great! Which one was yours ForceFlow ?
Quoted from pincity:Sorry - don’t know enough about this pin to know the difference between versions but both RFM’s I played were great! Which one was yours forceflow ?
The one with the original monitor and with Saratoga show cards on it. The other RFM that someone else brought is in a SWEP1 cab and has an LCD monitor.
Actually, this is also a good opportunity for a comparison for anyone considering an LCD replacement to see what they each look like almost side by side.
About an hour left on my drive form Chicago. How long is the auction open? Lots of cool items in the pictures.
Quoted from waldo34:About an hour left on my drive form Chicago. How long is the auction open? Lots of cool items in the pictures.
The auction is over. I don't think is was more than an hour or so.
I was really surprised how well my pre-WWII Bumper machine was recieved. I was worried about how a flipperless machine would be recieved but it had people at it almost the entire weekend. I love seeing people play and enjoy it and loved talking to people about it.

Dude that thing was really cool, I played a few times. Love how the coils ground by touching the side of the metal hole!

That’s great to hear! There were a bunch of guys playing dollar games with it last night around 11 which was a blast to see.
I picked up 4 extra Paul Faris Pintastic posters signed by Paul if anyone needs one. I know Delta also got extras.

Quarterfinals of the Tournament are currently on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/ontilt
Quoted from Matesamo:The Saturday crowds have come out in force! Getting tough to maneuver during the peak period, good for the show.
Yeah I’ve come every year and I regret coming today because the crowd got intense - worse than other Saturdays I attended. The tech crews were working their butts off because... hey it is pinball and it breaks! Hats off to the amazing crew keeping the games going under those conditions. Only stayed about 4 hours. The crowds were too much and honestly the free play selection on higher end DMD titles this year was probably the thinnest in the 4 years I went. Once the crowds got in it got very difficult to play anything post 1996. On the bright side I focused on some EMs I might have otherwise ignored and did have a pretty decent time (really glad I did too!) Easily worth admission price still but I did find other years a better selection.
It isn’t the organizers fault but coming back from lunch and seeing multiple games leave before 2pm on Saturday is a bummer. CFBL was great and then it vanished.
Other takeaways: I’m very glad I got to play a Total Nuclear Annihilation. I concluded I don’t understand the hype but was thrilled to finally play one. Also played my first Tron. Brutally hard and I kinda want one. Lol. JJP POTC appeared to have a ton of bugs because I got two balls stuck and had to tilt to get it out (no ball got released in the auto search). Can’t opine on that game because I couldn’t play it really. I played a beautiful Adams Family there (props to the person that brought that!)
In conclusion - if I choose to make next year year number 5 for me I’ll probably go Friday. Enjoyed the vendors as always and got a few small spare parts I needed.

That first pic is a great shot of my ass.

Let’s face it, that’s what most people want to play. There were a bunch more of the yesterday... some sold and were removed, I imagine others broke.
Quoted from drsfmd:That first pic is a great shot of my ass.
People will have to take my word that there was a Pinball machine behind you!
