The red side of the ribbon cable must be left (on your picture). You can read "1 red" on one side of the connector.
Check also on the MPU board, if the red side is correctly oriented.
Can you confirm the small green LED is blinking on the red daughter board?

To speed up sound package loading, you can use the PinSound Studio software: it will take care of everything and setup your USB flash drive within a few seconds / minutes (depending on your computer).
On the red daughter board, the small green LED should start blinking after the boot sequence (around 15 sec).
Could you try to power on your machine without any flash drive connected? Does it change something?
