Thanks all. @ Wiggy that would be great!!!

Anyone ever get into a situation where the board won't start the extraction process of the ogg files? I'm ok with the wait for the conversion now that I know how it works. Just tried a new set of files and it won't start extracting/converting. It just says there are no wav files in the audio directory.
All the stuff is in the right directories. I have updated the firmware and it still won't kick off the automatic conversion.
And I've tried two different flash drives. IJ. The legacy files.

#303 8 years ago

Had the exact same issue as you timebandit. You put the reorch on and decide you wanted to have the option to change back to original? I ended up having to use all wav files.

#304 8 years ago

Fourth time lucky. I just started again from scratch with the file download. Seems to be working.

Quoted from bdaily1983:

Just trying the legacy files set.. Indiana_Jones_OST_By_PinHead.zip

I am hoping that the files will be available at some time and thinking about procuring this set of speakers to get stereo with Pinsound board from my WMS IJ: http://flipperfidelity.com/sound/williams-bally-speaker-systems/williams-bally-complete-replacement-speaker-system-for-wpc95-machines-214.html

Would that be an ok choice to use with Pinsound or which should I use? I need to buy a ready-made kit as I am not handy with electronics.

#306 8 years ago

I talked to the flipper fidelity guy at allentown this year because I was going to get a set of speakers for my pinsound board. He said he was planning on making a specific set of speakers matched to work well with the pinsound board within the next few months or so. He said they'd be very similar to the current speakers with a few tweaks. You might want to contact him about when he'll start selling them.

#307 8 years ago

That's interesting. The flipper fidelity set is good as it is for the pinsound board. Wonder what he's going to change.

#309 8 years ago

Nice review! The new Chris Granner soundpack sounds more clear.
I like the "Golden Earring" soundtrack though.
Are you going to try the legacy soundpack also?

I have ordered a PinSound board and was thinking whether to go with rewiring the stock speakers or procuring new Flipper Fidelity speakers. What's your experience regarding that?

Oh, and should one rewire the Flipper Fidelity speakers with the wire I ordered from PinSound to rewire the stock speakers to 2.1 stereo or is there some other process for that?

Thanks for any info!

#311 8 years ago

Stock speakers on my Tommy sound amazing. That's 21 year old stock Data East speakers. No need to update. And I care a LOT about audio. You will be amazed.

#312 8 years ago

And I disagree. Every machine I've put FF speakers into there's been a noticeable improvement...especially in the bass response. If you just paid all that money for a sound card upgrade, you should get speakers to match. (I actually thought you needed to get matching backbox speakers for the wire harness? Could be wrong about that...) I just put FF speakers in AC/DC, and people have noticed how much better/louder it sounds now without me telling them.

#314 8 years ago

Well the top restorers in this country use them when overhauling machines, so that should tell you something.

man you are wrong more than you know. Pin sound is AWESOME, just put FF in my BBH and all I can say is meh! imagine re orchestrating your own sounds and in 2.1 stereo? get it. Not for STERN yet! but hopefully soon.

Yep, they aren't aware of PINSOUND's capabilities or are restoring modern STERN's!
I am not knocking FF as they are great when you can not get this system.

#317 8 years ago

I don't think we're arguing. You think we are, but we're not. I'm simply talking about the speakers. I HAVE the Pinsound card waiting to go in my IJ when it gets back from HEP...that machine already has FF speakers in it. I'm simply talking about the speakers themselves, not the card. Both are awesome.

No argument here Duderino. Love em both for their designed purpose.
I feel the love!

I have been replacing many of my Williams games with a Pinsound Board. I actually like the generic FF sound system instead of the more expensive kits with an adjustment on the subwoofer (crossover I think). I also replaced some proSound subs with FF 25 Sub which actually has a tweeter in it. I think they sound incredible now. Highly recommend! Only trouble is that is quite time consuming to make your own sound files. Another great thing is that most WPC era games you replace the sound board with the pinsound (and those boards are getting rarer and rarer (and $$$). I think this upgrade is just about on par with ColorDMD, thats how much I love it.

I am not sure I'd use FF, as they don't yet have a PinSound-specific kit. This would be individually wired speakers and a possible resistance change. They don't publish specs on their site, I am not sure what they currently are, but with PinSound you should be running 4 ohm speakers across the board.

Personally, since there is no plug-and-play kit, I'd just build my own adapting the guides from Markmon or similar on this site. I just did that for another machine, and the speakers cost about $35 shipped in the US. I guess it all depends on your budget and tech savvy.

Sub - Something like http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/55-3211
Backbox - 5.25" Pyles

I half agree. I too have put FF in my Sterns. Awesome upgrade, no doubt, and I would do it again. I have put pinsound board in both Tommy and IJ, and there is just no way I am going to fork out for new speakers. The stereo harness for IJ, and the native stereo of the DE..Oh man, the room-filling crystal clear audio is so fine. There just doesn't feel anything lacking. Technically, if/once the FF were in, I would imagine there would be a step up again, but the point is I think you would be pushing it from 11 to 12, and that's what I mean by no real *need* to upgrade. I will grant though, that I am thinking of upping the sub in the IJ.

#322 8 years ago

Just having the FF upgrade in my IJ made the floor shake beneath my feet, and (for me) that's what makes a completely immersive pinball experience...when you can feel it in your whole body. Can't wait to install the pinsound card...just wish Rick would get off Oli's back and let him finish the IJ reorchestration. The last iteration I got (before the shit hit the fan) was corrupted.

I meant roadshow. My new soundtrack is working perfectly, just the credit dot.

Yep I get this also, the guys at Pinsound said try another data cable, I've not done that yet as you say it all works fine, I will try one this weekend and get back here.

Yep. The PinSound has individual on-board volume, bass, and treble controls for both the cab and backbox, making the crossover and volume L-Pad in the FF kits redundant.

With a PinSound board installed you certainly *should* replace the stock speakers, as they were sub-par when originally installed and time doesn't do those cheap paper cones any favors, but you can just replace the speakers with quality individual components.

The volume knob is optional in FF kits now, I believe. I didn't get mine with my AC/DC kit and it knocked $15 off the price.

Do any of you guys know if there is a plan to support early solid state games (pre system 11)? Some may consider if blasphemy but I would be really interested in new sound for older games like Fathom. I may be in the minority but one of the only things that keeps me from early solid state games is the repetition of sound effects. Interestingly enough I have no problem with EM's they sound great.

#327 8 years ago

I received my Pinsound board for my WMS DCS-pinball today. The packet was damaged, but seems that the board made its trip ok. However, inside the packet I found screws and washers, but no nuts and now I cannot attach the adjustment plates to the board in order for me to have it in its place inside the backbox. Have other has same issues and how have you coped with it? The nut is such that one should be able to attach screws to it from both sides of the board. Any tips regarding the proper nut in order to be able to acquire it locally would be appreciated.

I've sent email via their contact-form to Pinsound.

EDIT: was able to find a longer screw, put two washers between the board and the adjustment bar, let's see if that works ok.

Here's a question for people that have used this with their IJ:

Can I use all of the reorchestrations and sound fx (which are in glorious stereo), but bring all the old voice samples over from the 1993 set? The lack of stereo on those samples doesn't really matter, does it? Voices are usually in mono and centered in the sound field anyway, right? Trying to figure out how I want to mix and match. (The new "See ya' tomorrow" especially doesn't do it for me, sadly.)

Has anybody used the old voice samples with all the wonderful new stuff? Does it sound awful?

That's what the default set on the community is isn't it?. It's fabulous. Or am I missing something?

You can do that but you miss all the new samples that have been included in the game. I don't know how many i added but probably more than 80 fitting quotes from the movies. The difference in quality is not night and day and if it's about that one Marion quote... Replace that single one.

#331 8 years ago

Have one that I never opened and looking to sell, so PM me if you want one a little cheaper than retail. US only.

I love you, Oli. I'm so glad I was able to get those sounds before they got shut down. Now my restored pin is going to sound awesome thanks to you!

#334 8 years ago

It was about the Marion quote right? I will guide you to replace it if you need my support!

It was the "see you tomorrow" quote...she sounds like she's on Quaaludes in the movie. I have the legacy files (which I'm not sure what they are), the 1993 files, and yours. I'll play around with it in the fall when I get my machine back.

#336 8 years ago

I'm pretty pumped to get one for GN'R, the whole concept is amazing to me. I can't wait to tweak it, and will be putting ''You could be mine'' to play during AXL 3 ball.

#337 8 years ago

Legacy and 1993 files are the same original files from the pinball.

#338 8 years ago

Just installed a pinsound board in my GnR. Waited a long time for it to convert the files. The update music played and the woman's voice kept me posted every 10%. Now it's done and I have no sound at all. Started a game and nothing. Powered game on/off and nothing. played with the volume inside the cab and on the board and get nothing.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks
EDIT: I had the ribbon cable backwards on the new board. All is well.

#339 8 years ago

you have converted 100% ok ?

are you sure all data connectors are at the right pins?

if yes
i would try a different usb stick and then i would contact pin sound support

#340 8 years ago

Has anyone tried this on The Getaway? I'd love to hear La Grange in non-MIDI form.

#341 8 years ago

I'm thinking of getting this for my T2 but have one question, will this board work with the profanity rom chips installed? I have the original chips from the game and can put them back in no problem, just wondered if it would be okay to leave the current ones in!

I don't think so, as the Pinsound board replaces the original sound card in the machine, I guess what you could do is drop in the sound file into the correct folder on the Pinsound's USB stick that may work.

Ah okay, well the profanity rom is 2 chips, 1 on the sound card and 1 on the CPU. I have the original CPU chip still so I will just pop that back in!

Just had a great customer experience from Pinsound. On my Getaway, the supercharger sound would linger after the ball exited until certain targets were hit or it drained. Nicolas at Pinsound gave me directions on how to record the sound during game play on the memory stick. Sent the file to him and he was able to reproduce the effect. Two days later he sent me easy instructions on how to fix it in the file directory (plus a new wav. file). Game works perfectly.

Great product and customer service! Thanks Nicolas!

#345 8 years ago

Does anyone here have any experience with this in a T2?

I absolutely LOVE the fact that it will play the original score from the film now- Epic!! But not quite sold on the Arnold impersonator.
Is there a way to run the new soundtrack with the original Arnold voice?

#346 8 years ago

This will work. You'll have to make the mix yourself but you just take the stock sound set you extract from your machine with the pinsound and then add in the OST music tracks from wherever.

The original voice samples may sound noisier when the rest of the music is crisp, but it certainly can be done.

If you can find an audio clip of Arnold saying the profane clip, all you have to do is add the file to the folder for the event where you want it said and the board will play it. If you have more than one file in the folder, it will randomly select a file and play it which can effectively control how frequently the profane clip is played.

I know there is a youtube clip of it. That should work somehow
