I've said it many times, there is so much talent on Pinside. If you need something, there is almost always someone who provides a particular product or service to suit your needs. The problem is, it's not always easy to find out who does what. Also, I've found that some people that come recommended, don't want/need the work. I always like to support the guys who want/need the work.

What I would like to do is compile a directory made up of the talented and skilled people we have here on Pinside. Here is how it will work; you recommend people on Pinside, list their expertise, and I will keep this first post updated with all the necessary info. I can also list preferred contact information or any other miscellaneous information next to their name.

If something like this already exists someone please let me know and I will have the thread closed. Also, any suggestions on organizing and categorizing is welcome. For now, here are the categories;

Thanks Calico! I'll try to keep it as up to date as possible.

Thanks to everyone else for the bumps!

#15 8 years ago

Getting the format right of the entries is going to take some playing around on my part.

#18 8 years ago

Does anyone know if Paul of VirtuaPins is on Pinside? Anyone have a person they want to add to the directory? Everyone can suggest other fellow Pinsiders.

#21 8 years ago
Quoted from terryb:

For board repair: Barakandl, ChrisHibler, JohnWartJr and Borygard (sorry if I forgot anyone). They don't all do all systems so that would be worth noting.
Calico1997 has led bumper caps (sold through PinballLife if it matters).

NoahFentz

Thanks Terry! I got all those listed now.

Quoted from robertmee:

Chris Hutchins of HEP for Restorations - High_End_Pins
Bryan Kelley does reproductions from time to time - Bryan_Kelly
Great Plains Electronics supplies all electronic goodies - G-P-E
Mark does reproductions (Genesis Ramps, ie) - Freeplay40
Cliffy Protectors - Cliffy
Alex Levy used to do powdercoating...not sure anymore - Pinchroma
John Wart Jr also does ROM burns - JohnWartJr
Jim McCune does Quality Restorations - McCune

I'll work on those next. I want to try to stick with guys that are currently taking/wanting work. I don't think Alex needs/wants the work. Even when he posted that he was taking work, I never got a response back. I know Chris has a huge backlog, I'll add him for sure though. I know Bryan had mentioned that he won't be able to use the shop he has been using (at least in the winter), I'll have to reach out to him and see if he is still taking work. If he isn't, that is a huge loss for the community.

Quick question about the ROM burns, do most board guys do ROM burns or is that a one off thing John does?

#37 8 years ago
Quoted from CRWgxp:

Barakandl is in Columbus, Ohio not Indiana.

Fixed

Quoted from Pinwow:

What about people who have a lot of parts for sale? part hoards, not one offs
If you want to add someone to that, feel free to add me, lol!

Added a whole new section for that. What manufacturers do you carry parts for mostly? B/W, Gottlieb, Stern etc. I'm just trying to make sure I can fit some accurate info on one or two lines.

Quoted from TaylorVA:

I make new playfield rails. My FB page is Reese Rails and I have a thread on Pinside titled Oak Replacement rails. I can be reached at Richmondpinball@gmail.....

Added!

Quoted from yzfguy:

-Beelzeboob is an expert smartass
-I have a knack for eating an unbelievable amount of wings

Your expertise has been noted in Post #2, your very own section.

Quoted from terryb:

Diagnostic boards and troubleshooting aids (i.e. switch matrix tester).
Acebathound Pinitech http://www.pinitech.com/
HHaase Siegcraft Electronics http://www.siegecraft.us/pinball/boards.html

I need to add these guys for sure. I just don't know where to put them in my categories yet. Board Repair?

Quoted from Kilowog2814:

Don't know if it counts, but Pinballswag.com can print custom shirts of any design.

Yep, I'll add it. Are you the primary point of contact on pinside for Pinballswag?

Quoted from ChrisHibler:

I leave burning ROMs up to JWJ.
I'll update a ROM for an MPU that comes in but sourcing, burning, testing ROMs is a PITA.

Nice, I added the Rom burning next to Johns name. Good to know!

Quoted from Bryan_Kelly:

I've still got use of the shop and am still doing restorations.

Great news! Added!

Quoted from NoahFentz:

Yep, I'm here.
I've updated the location in my profile ... Holly, MI
We're also breaking into powder coating.

Updated, thanks!

Quoted from mof:

Mike Chestnut - powder coating
-mof

I didn't realize Mike did powder coating too, that's good to know. I've had several full games plated by Mike. However, I've been told by Mike personally that he doesn't want or need the work. I'm sure this isn't the case for guys like Chris and others who send him like 20 coin doors at a time. But I want to make sure if new pinsiders look on this list they will be able to contact someone that will be available and needs the work. I can't personally vet everyone, I'll leave that up to the community.

Quoted from barakandl:

I specialize in repairing WMS 3-7, Classic Stern, and Classic Bally boards. While I can fix other board sets, focusing on those lets me be very proficient and cost effective.
Thanks

Thanks! I'll update your info, good to know!

In response to the pinballswag question, I am the primary contact now.
I will be taking over the business in the coming month.
I will be doing additional items when able.
Thanks

Awesome Steve, I'll add it. Thanks!

#51 8 years ago
Quoted from ChrisHibler:

For me...I can fix any pinball board except Game Plan and Atari. Currently not taking in surface mount work ala Stern S.A.M. system. Can also work on Taito Ice Cold Beer boards.
Thanks for listing this!

Thanks Chris, I'll try to fit some of that together on one line. Thanks for all the help over the years by the way!

Quoted from Adydar:

He is, under BackAlleyMatt

Nice, thank you! Matt is a great guy. He's another one I'm going to have a hard time fitting a one line description.

You got it!

Quoted from robertmee:

I listed him earlier but it wasn't added

Quoted from beelzeboob:

Jim McCune does amazing work on restorations if nobody has noted it yet. And I'm not just being a smartass.

Sorry, is Jim taking work? I know he does great work, I've seen the pics. He's the only guy I have not dealt with and I can't confirm this but he seems like he doesn't want the work. I certainly don't want to leave people off the list for no reason, but I do want to ensure future pinheads arn't chasing their tails.

Quoted from terryb:

Diagnostic boards and troubleshooting aids (i.e. switch matrix tester).
Acebathound Pinitech http://www.pinitech.com/
HHaase Siegcraft Electronics http://www.siegecraft.us/pinball/boards.html

I found a place for those guys now. At least I think it fits under parts and distribution. Terry, what category can I put you in (Or make a new one)? I swear, you have been part of the solution to any problem I've ever posted about. You are like a walking reference guide.

#54 8 years ago
Quoted from beelzeboob:

Good point. I had just assumed he was.

One of the reasons I started this thread. People that sometimes come highly recommended don't always really care about getting more work, and even act as though they are annoyed to be receiving work. I'm trying to avoid that with this list if possible, so that newer Pinsiders get the best possible experience when working with fellow Pinsiders.

#66 8 years ago
Quoted from akm:

Could add Herg to the list under the parts/mods category:
Herg - Stone Ridge, VA - Creates LED OCD, GI OCD and GIzmo LED lamp control boards - http://www.ledocd.com/

Added. I didn't realize how much easier it was to add to the list when it's already formatted for me lol. Thanks!

Quoted from Gryszzz:

This looks pretty handy, thanks dude !
Allen Shope and Treasure Cove in Louisville KY. They do stunning restorations as well. They also sell some really nice playfield polishing kits.
He's a really nice guy.

Agreed, Allen is a great guy. I have a Treasure Cove kit myself. What is his Pinside name?

Quoted from mof:

List #1 will be small and easy to update
List #2 will be huge, and have no end in sight

Mof, yes I'm seeing a need to split this up a little bit. My "Mods and Fabrication" category is going to be to big to efficiently navigate. I'll move the "Other" list to reserve two and split services and parts across the first two posts. It's going to take me a little bit to split up, but that is the plan for now. I'm going to try to figure out how I want to split up parts as well.

#67 8 years ago
Quoted from metahugh:

The new playfield rails Taylor makes are absolutely beautiful, if you are doing a full restoration you owe it to yourself to get a set.

image.jpg image_1.jpg

Nice, thanks for the pics and praise for Taylor. This is a good thread for it. I wish I could incorporate some type of rating system, but I think that would turn a helpful thread into full blown dramatics. Regardless, everyone is more than welcome to post their approval of other pinsiders in this thread, plug your merchandise, and post pics of great pinsider work like metahugh has done.

I'll need Flank to confirm or deny his involvement with said autographs.

#90 8 years ago

I know I missed a few but I'm going to go back through here in an hour or so and see what else I need to add.

Quoted from Eddie:

Shameless self- plug
I do pinball restoration and repair.
Boardwork
Metal fabrication specializing in the welding repair of assemblies..VUKs, Troughs etc
Pintech found on Facebook. Working on a web site. Can be contacted here or at Modern Pinball NYC

Nice! You are a man of many skills. Do you do full blown restorations? I may add the metal working part to the plating/powdercoating section.

Quoted from Darcy:

Which Heading does "Smart-Ass Answers" go under?

That would the the "Other" category in post three. Feel free to nominate yourself for the appropriate title. I may take some creative liberties with it.

Quoted from o-din:

I'm not sure there is much talent involved or it will help your pinball game, but I mix a mean Jack and Coke.

Added

Quoted from Wolfmarsh:

I have no talents to submit, but let me know when it's time for the Pinsider Taint Directory.

Added. I didn't know if you wanted to be listed in the Pinsider Taint Directory or you had a lot of suggestions for it. Either way, I think I got you covered.

Quoted from terryb:

More "parts" people:
Kerry @ Mantis Amusements
PDI http://www.pinballdecals.com/
http://www.pinbits.com/
Another restoration person who sells color DMDs
pinballmiked http://pinballmiked.com/

I think this is the only group I didnt get to add. I got Pinballmiked, I've watched all of his youtube videos, he's a lot of fun to watch work. I've ordered and been very happy from Mantis, Pinballdecals, and pinbits! Is Kerry his pinside name for Mantis? I looked up a Kerry but didn't know if it was him. Same with PDI, I saw a PDI but I didn't know that is for pinballdecals. Anyone know if pinbits has a pinsider handle?

#98 8 years ago
Quoted from Freeplay40:

If Pinside got on board with this, maybe add a review/rating provision...The Angie's list of Pinball.

First, let me say I totally agree. I would really like to see functionality added to the site where a user could query a database full of Pinside talent for particular skills or parts. I would also like to see a web application created so that a user could input a part number and it would query multiple vendors and subsequently respond with in-stock/out-of-stock and price for each vendor. But all this stuff takes a lot of development time, so for now I'm happy to keep this list running until there is a better option.

On the other hand, you have seen how much drama results from the Top 100 ratings. Can you imagine the drama surrounding ratings and reviews for Pinsiders? It would have to be heavily moderated seeing as it may actually effect someones income (A much more serious consequence than arbitrary ratings for pinball machines).

#102 8 years ago
Quoted from spfxted:

I will also add your list to my Pinball411.com website. Thanks!

I'm going to have to figure out a new category. I know several pinsiders have really good reference websites, so maybe I'll make that a category.

Quoted from Vector:

I do general repairs, restorations, and boardwork in Mass, RI, eastern CT and southern NH. I make house calls.
Boards I repair:
WMS - all except P2K
Classic Bally / Stern - all except 6803 and Stern speech boards

DE - all except sound
Stern - Whitestar and SAM - not yet - currently looking for a test fixture.

Quoted from terryb:

Excellent work Andrew. I really want one of those rejected resistors.
Since I think this list is more of a resource for hobbyists (rather than manufacturers) do you do any pinball mods or such?

Your work looks really great! I'm with Terry, do you do any pinball mod related work?

Quoted from centerflank:

Price has doubled due to high demand

Since you confirmed, its been added to the prestigious "Other" category.

#125 8 years ago
Quoted from deadzebra:

Not other than my own projects at the moment, but I was putting it out there more so to be available to fellow pinsiders for consulting & advice on materials, molding and casting! No problem if I don't qualify for the list

I'll add you for sure. I think casting/molding consulting is an interesting niche that someone will utilize.

Quoted from centerflank:

I also offer free riveting if people want to mail me anything.
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/need-riveting/page/2#post-2404317

Nice, I'll add it to the repair/shop category. I may put the riveting in the metal working category, as I've seen some people willing to send out ramps to be riveted proper.

Quoted from BALL_LESS1:

I don't see Fred Swemmer listed yet. (Fretto1 on PinSide) He has helped me out immensely on my old missing Bally 6803 board.
His email address is: [email protected]

I'll add Fred. Do you know what categories he would fit into? Maybe parts/distribution?
