how do we get threads move from the basement back to the main forum?

    for example https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/can-a-scanjet-4670-work-on-windows-81#post-2777327

is a thread directly pertinent to pinball since the scanjet 4670 is the main portable flat scanner used in pinball restoration work.

    Quoted from robin:

topic itself has nothing to do with pinball restoratio: it is about fixing a printer issue on Window 8.1.

it is actually about getting a pinball restoration tool to work on windows 8.1. The scanner is commonly used by restoration guys to scan items and make reproduction one offs (plastics, waterslides, etc...)

I was just thinking it may be good to have a way to easily flag these sorts of threads as on topic instead of off topic?

is there a way to set my user preferences to have all forums intergrated into my view of the front page?

I like the mix of seeing all topics and previously did not exclude any categories form my view.
It appears the only way to see 'basement' topics is to specifically go to the basement?

    Quoted from ralphwiggum:

Wow, big swing and a miss for Pinside. I agree with all of what you have written above. A fee for selling a machine? Just bring in advertising in the marketplace and be done with it if you have turned this place into your day job. There is far more revenue in advertising (especially with the traffic here) then there is on selling fees for machines. Pinside has long been the place where people come to sell "higher than market", selling fees on top of that only make that problem worse.

I agree. Seems like advertising in the market area is a better way to generate revenue than charging selling fees. IN my mind it only seems appropriate that if industry should also be charged to advert here. I have no problems seeing ads on the sidebars in the marketplace and guessing that would bring in more revenue?

Granted when I sell on pinside I also am happy to make a dontaion.

    Quoted from ForceFlow:

    Ah, great
It wasn't immediately apparent that it was an available option.

where do I find this page for my settings?

    #49 8 years ago
    Quoted from ForceFlow:

The settings tab/button near the top of the page.

    thanks

Great points Ralpwiggum! I fully agree.

It makes one question the contributions they make outside of dollasr once you know others are benefiting off those contirbutions in a finacial way.

We already had so very few great restoration threads shared on here. I can only imagine that we will see less when these great restorers (or tech knowledge or ?) are then charged a fee for using other aspects of the site.

FIX THE PICTURES, then we can talk about upsells

    Quoted from ralphwiggum:

Could be that "idle hands are the devils workshop"... Now that this is a full time gig, perhaps they have more time to play in the chocolate factory.... Time will tell.

I am still trying to figure out how this can support 2 full time jobs? How many people on on here each day? How deep is the well?

Seems like maybe a 1000 users each day either on/ posting or lurking?

I suppose it is possible but how much is the site going to bring in based on that user pool? Is it sustained? Where does more growth come from? One heck of a business model to put all the eggs in. I hope it works for you guys Robin, and good luck!

everything changes when money gets involved.

I support out of choice. When it becomes a business then my perceptions > beliefs > experiences then change.
