All sports picks —just for fun of course.

Starting with week 1 NFL..

Making my picks this morning any suggestions?

#2 3 years ago

How anyone can watch pro sports anymore is beyond me. I never really watched it anyway but now? no chance.

#3 3 years ago

Week 1 is always super hard. This year I think it’ll be even harder. I’ll be waiting until week 3 to start putting money down.

#4 3 years ago

Ravens and give the points.

Good picks ..A philly win should vault you to the top

The whole “Get Woke Go Broke” backlash is hitting sports hard. NBA is hanging on by a thread. I’m praying football pipes down on the political crap or it’ll be curtains for them too.

Makes me sad that I’m agreeing against my Browns but you know what they say “never bet with your heart”

Week 1 is extremely hard to pick. Truly anything can happen.

Looking at it closely, vikings-packers, raiders-panthers, and bears-lions seem to be the toughest to call. Of course, that probably means one of those will be a 30 point blowout, lol!

How many points will the Steelers beat the Giants by?

#13 3 years ago

Guessing Tampa saints is a waste of money but hard not to take Brady and the points. So tempting against a notorious slow starting Saints.

#14 3 years ago

Cardinals +7 locked.
Ravens - 7 locked
Atlanta / Seattle under 49 locked
My picks for week 1 (did have the chiefs by 7 ..my only pick so far)

Stop being whiny old grumps and enjoy the unique experience of pro sports in unprecedented pandemic times! It's been pretty surreal and incredible to see top-level sports without an audience present.
You're going to have to learn to deal with being left behind by society or else you'll be in the retirement home still grumpy over not allowing yourself to enjoy sports at all any more!

What sites are you guys using? I’ve only tried Bovada, other than just betting in person at a casino.

I only ever do bets amongst friends, personally. How competitive are the betting sites in America?

Odds Much better than the criminal pro-line with a ton of props and no minimum 3 games.
Cash is in the bank in a day. I set a monthly limit and stick to it.

Last weekend was an amazing weekend for teasers. Today not so much, but I did build one I liked. A 3-leg teaser of AZ, GB and KC might be an idea later as well.

Quoted from cait001:

How competitive are the betting sites in America?

They are (at least in NJ) extremely competitive with each other as far as customer acquisition - sign-up bonuses like deposit matches and risk-free bets, returning customer bonuses, “odds boosts” on limited-risk props, stuff like that.

In NJ alone there’s more than a dozen different online/mobile books and they’re all still fighting for eyeballs and wallets. States have only had the option of allowing sports wagering for a little over two years now (and many of them still don’t) so it’s still a big land grab.

As far as being competitive from a player’s perspective... not so much. Crap user interfaces, limited markets, player limits, slow withdrawals (despite instant deposits...), the spinning “processing” wheel after placing an in-game wager... a long list of anti-player behavior, and that’s not even mentioning the crap lines and prices that some of them push, like -115/-115 on both sides of a spread.

The good thing about having so many outs in NJ is that at least the player has options, but it requires the player to do their due diligence and price shopping, and have all of those places funded and ready to go. The “public” players, the market that the books are targeting, don’t give a shit and just want to bet on their favorite team.

Brutal

#42 3 years ago

Couldn’t agree more.

#43 3 years ago

Tonight was a good night, thankfully, because this past weekend was flat-out brutal. I ordinarily don’t like pushing alternate lines down this far, but needed a win just to remind myself I still could hit.

This coming weekend’s NFL looks like another teaser-fest like two weekends ago. Only 2 of 11 games with spreads under 6 right now.

Agreed ...I usually wait just before the dinner bell rings

Is there a betting exchange market where you can place bets against other people, and the house just takes a cut of a transaction?
Like the betting markets where you can bet on events occurring by certain days and such. I just... can't really trust when the house makes the odds on all sides, and prefer it when it's more "stock market" style.

It's the difference between walking into a casino and going to the slots where you know they're set to reap a specific percentage for the house,
vs going to a poker table and the house has a rake

I think Tampa covers easily Thursday
Bears averaging 9 points through the first 3 qtrs? Forget any comeback against Tampa

1H Tampa -2.5 (-129)
On the surface certainly seems underpriced. Still lots of 'questionable' on the Tampa injury report, but if Evans and/or Godwin end up good to go... totally worth the shot.
