Pinside throws an error when trying to access it with my smart phone.
    Error:502 Bad Request
The server could not resolve your request for url: http//pinside.com.

I've had two other people also with android smart phones on Verizon have the same error.

I tried it on my iPhone and it works fine. Not sure if android is just not supported?

    #2 10 years ago

Fine on mine posting from it now

Posting from a droid, no issues~SpOoKy

I have the same problem on my phone for whatever reason, or I did the last time I checked. (EDIT: Currently working fine on my phone.)

Try https://pinside.com (note the https). Fixes it for me.

That did it!! Firefox adds http and not https.

    Thanks for the help.

I know there's a lot of opposition to it, but I wouldn't mind a Pinside app.

    I second this.

    #8 10 years ago

I often have to click twice on links (or hold the click) to get them to open from my Droid. Really annoying.

    #9 10 years ago

It's odd. I've never had a problem with any other website before. It even throws an error if you access the website on my phone thru google and I've tested it with the stock browser, google chrome and firefox. Tried clearing the cache and everything. It's definitely a strange problem that I haven't seen before.

    Or integration with Tapatalk.

I use chrome on my phone (android) and have never had a problem with pinside. Maybe it is the browser?

    #12 10 years ago

As of a couple of days ago, Pinside has been displaying without the proper GUI format on my Android phone. It hasn't done that in the past.

    Anyone else have similar problems?

I've had the same issue on a Verizon Android with Dolphin Browser. Hopefully this fixes it for me, too:

Nevermind. Apparently it has something to do with Dolphin browser.

Hmmm. Just bought an LG Flex..can't pull up pinside on it. I'm using chrome. The native browser works fine. This is weird.

    #16 9 years ago

I blame Verizon on my problem. Switching from 4g would sometimes fix the problem. Using the https server will always fix it.

    #17 9 years ago

    Tried the https...no joy.

    #18 9 years ago

I too have same issue as the OP. Connecting through wifi no problem but tmobile LTE gives the"bad request" error. I am running android kitkat on lg g2.

    #19 9 years ago

I had the same issue on my S4 on Verizon using the native samsung browser. Switched to using Chrome instead and has been working fine ever since.

    #20 9 years ago

The native browser works but Chrome does not on mine...I'm going to reinstall Chrome and see what happens.

I see that on my iPhone, evidently a mobile touch event issue, not an OS one.

    #22 9 years ago

    Edited: Wrong info.

    #23 9 years ago

I've been having the same problem with my Galaxy S5 and Verizon. If I'm on wi-fi, I can access Pinside no problem with both Dolphin and Chrome. If I'm on Verizon's internet, however, Pinside simply won't load on my phone. Very annoying.

    #24 9 years ago

Well I spoke too soon...it's still blocked,.I must have been on WIFI when it pulled it up....I read that it has something to do with the website and not the phone or OS.

    #25 9 years ago

researched this online and found this:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie8-windows_vista/some-sites-wont-come-up-getting-error-code-502-bad/344c8bba-1b14-4702-8ce1-60eeb1ba9e75

If you get this problem for only "some" Web sites you try to visit, then it
is likely to be a problem at those sites i.e. one of their pieces of
equipment is failing/overloaded. Contact the people at those sites.

1 – The Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) is configured to throw a proxy error to help guard against external or internally-based Internet threats, and 2- The client or server computers are misconfigured or using outdated software.

    #26 9 years ago

Note 2 on Verizon using Skyfire browser. I have never been able to access on 4G but can on wifi no problem.

    #27 9 years ago

I have been doing some checks on the web server log files and might be tweaking some settings. It *looks* like the server is overloaded on capacity (max users) during a specific time frame, and I'm guessing that's when some of you are getting the 502 error.

Does the error always occur around the same time? Or does it happen all of the time for you (morning, afternoon, evening, night?)

    Quoted from Carl_694:

This is really a mobile (touch) browser "feature". It has to do with emulating mouse overs, since a touchscreen does not have a mouse. For example, on a pc hovering over someone's avatar in the forum will show you links to info, posts and pm. On a touch display, a tap is required to show that menu (trigger the mouseover) and sa second tap to "click" the link. Hope that makes sese.

So technically it is something I could improve but that would require separate functionality on different platforms and it's something I'm trying to avoid because maintaining one site is enough work

    #28 9 years ago

I have never been able to get on while on 4G no matter what time of day. If I switch to wifi I have no issue. When I switch back to 4G (the same minute) I get the following message:

    Error 502 - Bad Request
The server could not resolve your request for uri: http//pinside.com/pinball/forum

    #29 9 years ago

It happens all the time when on 4g. If I switch to 3g or 1x, then it is some of the time. Never on wifi and never when using the https://pinside.com no matter how I connect.

Opposition to there being a pinside app or opposition to making a ton of changes on the server side to support a dedicated app? (I'm betting the latter)

Sorry, just to make sure, so you are saying that you never have these connecting problems when using the SSL (https://) Pinside? Only on the regular (http://) site?

Does that finding go for all of you who are experiencing these 503 gateway problems?

    #32 9 years ago

I've had problems off and on while browsing Pinside on my Verizon HTC One while using 4G. For a while it wasn't working using the Dolphin browser but would work using the stock Android browser but then it stopped working on my Android browser and is working again using Dolphin. Very strange problem but I've been able to work around it. Looks like there are quite a few others that are also having problem with Verizon and Android phones.

Ok. I didn't know there was a secure site. While on 4G I switched from http://pinside/pinball/forum to https://pinside/pinball/forum and it works now. I deleted my old bookmark and redirected to the secure server. Works for me now on 4G using Note 2 on Verizon.

EDIT: I use Skyfire browser BTW.

This is very similar to what happened to me. I prefer Dolphin, but Pinside wouldn't work on it. I switched to Chrome and it worked, but then it stopped working on Chrome as well. The https URL appears to be working fine with both browsers, so hopefully that will solve the problem for good.

Yep. https://pinside.com works every time. I had to update the bookmark on my phone.. coincidentally, https gets by the firewall here at work too. This site is flagged as "games" at work and is blocked (after about a year of surfing the http site).

    #37 9 years ago

And here I am on Verizon 4g.

    https://pinside.com/pinball/forum

    #38 9 years ago

    Hmm, that's interesting.

So the problems are only on mobile, and more specifically Verizon 4G.
I'm thinking their bandwidth saving proxy / gateway (almost every telco seems to use these) is messing things up.

That explains why https:// works (ssl traffic can not be "throttled") and http:// doesn't.

    #39 9 years ago

I'll just throw this on the pile of reasons to dump Verizon when my contract is finally up, maybe sooner.

Perhaps a tapatalk friendly version will help.

it has nothing to do with the phone or the os...so please don't derail the thread with the Android vs. Apple B.S.

    Quoted from tb0ne:

The problem is that you're talking about apps in the end. Not just one. You'd need an Android app and iOS app for starters. Then as Windows Phone continues to gain market share you'd need an app for that. Robin is just one person. Maintaining the site as it is takes a ton of effort. Piling on the development and management of a number of apps just doesn't seem feasible. Especially since the core site works just fine on mobile devices.

The point is though that it's not as simple as "lol Verizon" because I have no issues with Pinside on Verizon with my iPhone. Never seen this once. And my bookmark is http, not https.

I don't have this problem, and I'm an Android user on Verizon.

I think if the problem were as widespread as "Android + VZW + Pinside = fail," this problem would have been more widely reported.
