Welcome!

I wanted to start this thread so Pinsiders could discuss what kind of music they listen to and how they listen to it. For example, I buy all my music on CD and listen to them through a stereo system I set up months ago. My setup is a Onkyo C-7030 CD Player, a Onkyo TX-38 Stereo Receiver, and a pair of JBL G300 speakers. The only new piece of equipment in my system is the CD player. The stereo receiver was a hand me down from my grandfather and the speakers were given to me from my dad. The receiver was made in 1985 and was bought in '87 for around $900. It sounds great! I personally believe receivers made in the 80's are better than anything companies put out today. The speakers were made in '97 and bought for $300 but are not exactly special. They still sound awesome and get the job done. I think that Compact Discs are the best format of music for listening. Plus, I can rip all my CDs into mp3s so I can listen to my music on my phone. In terms of music taste, I mainly listen to Rock, Reggae, and Metal. My favorite musician of all time is Bob Marley and if I had to go with a favorite band it would be Van Halen. Be happy to share you music taste and setups below!

Quoted from nosro:

I dig it. Old, cheap, but sounds great to your ears.
You forgot to specify David Lee Roth or Sammy Hagar.

nosro Definitely the DLR era. There are some post-1984 songs that are worth listening to but overall, the Hagar albums pretty much suck. Do you have your own stereo system or surround sound unit? I would like to hear more from you

Quoted from Chitownpinball:

Got an Onkyo TX-SR444 receiver, 2 pioneer tower speakers, and some one gave me a 12" Klipsch sub. Had my first party since getting the sub this past weekend. Jay-z holy grail came on and I thought the house was gonna fall down. Sick bass. Love the fullness I have in the basement now. Was very high end heavy before.

Chitownpinball Cool! I really to like Onkyo's equipment and Pioneer is pretty great as well. I know the TX-SR444 is a 7 channel AV Receiver. Have you ever used the surround sound on it? If so, does it sound good with music? To what I've heard surround sound is only worthwhile for movies. Anyways, I could probably get a speaker upgrade.

Quoted from BudManPinFan:

I used to be into high end audio and have owned lots of stuff over the years, Linn, Rotel, Adcom, B&W, Mission, Harman Kardon, etc. The only equipment that I regret getting rid of was the Kyocera stuff which they only made for about 3 years, it was good. As far as music I used to have a couple hundred vinyl albums which I sold when I got out of the hobby. Now I have a couple hundred CDs which I listen to with a Marantz receiver and CD player and am very happy with it. I listen to everything from Mozart to Metallica.

Mozart to Metallica LOL

AVH7401 I have to side with you on DLR. I checked out after I heard the first Sammy album.
I like to mix old and new things. I'm very far from being a purist of any kind.
Source: stream from a home server through a Kodi player through a Musical Fidelity DAC
Amplification: PrimaLuna tube amplifier, with some NOS tubes and modern tubes (there's that old and new again)
Speakers: Definitive Technology with amplified bass drivers
Wow, my cables are a mess. I really need to re-wire everything.

nosro Damn, those tubes look serious!

Quoted from Chisox:

My other favorite hobby.
Marantz TT-15 turntable
oppo 103d DVD/CD player
McIntosh MC352 amplifier
McIntosh C2200 Pre-amp
McIntosh MR 74 tuner
Dali Grand Floorstanding Speakers
Wait haven't we already done this? Oh well, 90% listening to vinyl, 5% CD, 5% steaming. I unwind listening to music with a glass of bourbon almost daily.

Chisox So as I am getting this, you use a DVD player for your CDs? How good does it sound?
