Quoted from Krupps4:

Anyone have a Fender Jag suggestion? I’m not looking for a traditional Fender Jag. Rather something more along the lines of the Cobain Jag, Although I wasn’t overly impressed with that model when I played it. It seems like a lot of what your paying for with that one is the Cobain name.
I’ve heard a lot of good things about the Fender Jag Blacktop HH. There are a couple on Reverb that are about $700 - $800. Anyway, just wondering if I’m missing any other options. The other thing I was thinking of doing is just grabbing a Jag Classic Vibe and swapping out the pick ups and bridge. Thanks.

Pretty much the case with any “signature” model. You are definitely paying a LOT for the name. Isn’t Cobain’s guitar a combo of a Jaguar and a Mustang?

The Jag Stang is a guitar Cobain worked with Fender to create. He played a lot of guitars but his ‘66 Fender Jag was his main guitar. There’s a lot of history and mystery to it. There’s a 10 minute or so YouTube history on his Fender Jag. It’s an interesting watch.

So my wife is talking about getting me a Gibson Les Paul for my 50th birthday. Anyhow I was at my local guitar store trying out the new LP Standards and as I’m walking out I see this thing hanging on the wall. I couldn’t resist. Plugged it in and it was all over after that. Had to have it. It is “used” but there isn’t a mark on it. Normally $1800 new, they had it listed for $1300 used. Went home, grabbed a extra Mexi strat I don’t play anymore (it got bumped by a 1992 Mexi Strat), a LP knockoff that has been under the bed for a year and my Orange Tiny Terror I’ve never really bonded with and headed back to the shop.

Traded those three items plus the 1x12 cab for the Tiny Terror for the guitar. Came with a super nice case and all the case candy.

This is the Limited Edition American Showcase Telecaster in Sky Burst Metallic.

Yeah, I’m amazed by it myself!
Even the tiny little key to lock the hard case was still there!
It’s like it’s never been played nor used. A real time capsule.
And here am I, rocking in it in my underwear!

Quoted from Rdoyle1978:

I found on German EBay of all places.
And more ironic was that not only could he ship it to Sweden?m, he had a meeting booked in Stockholm, Sweden so we ended up doing a face to face deal. He brought it with him.

My latest in the stable. I had wanted a Rhoads since I was 17 -- the new Amazon doc finally pushed me over the edge. Now, to get back to woodshedding those Mr. Crowley solos...

ha! Nicely done. You have got me going down the rabbit hole looking for an old pre-lawsuit Ibanez Destroyer I had years ago. They are $1500 on reverb now! But I found one!

Yeah I saw them and they were a lot easier to find than an A20 so I had a destroyed as a backup but I have never played one nor have any connections to one.
But they do look great! And they probably play absolutely fantastic.

So you found one, did you click on “buy”?

On world-famous Denmark st in London, checked out some of the many guitar shops. Some cool oddities - a primitive 70s loop pedal that I’m sure is an absolute monster to keep in pitch and working correctly.

Also a bizarre late 70s gibson with an active moog “compressor” that looks like a Firebird someone left on the stove too long. Chatted with some nice folks and bought the t shirt. Apparently regent is where sabbath and the stones recorded their first albums, among others back in the day.

Thanks Vid, bought 4 to add to my cable mountain.

Hey I bought a fender strat you posted a sale for probably ~10 years ago at least in a thread here somewhere. It's an awesome guitar I played the hell out of and now my daughter is learning on it. wish I woulda bought 2! Been that long since I've been back and you're still at it, you rock.

Holy crap it was only 6 years ago! been a long 6 years

Yeah, I bought a couple extra of those guitars to give a "new in box" feeling for someone in the future.

#1269 1 year ago

I recently took mine out of the case and set it on my new Monoprice rack. Still might decide to sell it, it basically is like brand new, just played for a few minutes, plastic still on the pic guard, etc.

I like playing the Ibanez too much.

New guitar day!

My wife got me my first Gibson Les Paul for my 50th birthday. It’s a Standard 50s, super lightweight at 8 lbs 7 oz (I told her my main criteria was light weight) and has an amazing flame/quilt top! She knocked it out of the park!

Wow. Not only do they have a capo on a violin, but it appears that every person is "playing" behind the capo. Is it really that difficult to find someone with basic knowledge of how things work?

Quoted from gorditas:

Being photogenic is the only quality they're looking for. No brains required.

#1280 1 year ago

I’m not sure exactly what a random non-playing person might do with their left hand if they were told to just pretend they are playing a guitar for a photo, but a few of them based on their left hand position and fingering look like they may have actually played before. You can picture them trying to tell the photographer this is not how it works, and being told just shut up and do it that way, it looks better to me. Just do it and take your money and run.

#1281 1 year ago

I couldn't find it on Amazon to get a better look at the picture. I wonder if the capo is photoshopped?

Now that you mention it, the top left image is definitely photoshopped.

#1283 1 year ago

I was thinking the capos might be photoshopped. Also, the placement of the capo in relation to the fret in some of the pictures is not really in the right place either. Its comical no matter how you look at it.

#1284 1 year ago

Not to mention a flat capo on a curved fingerboard of a violin…

#1285 1 year ago

Yeah, that's right, I've got nothing better to do right now, here are some more Amazon capo pics for your enjoyment.

What in the hell is this supposed to be??

capo 1 (resized).jpgcapo 1 (resized).jpg

You are selling capos, but none of the people in your pic are using a capo...

capo 3 (resized).jpgcapo 3 (resized).jpg

Just in case you are not sure how big a capo is that will fit on your guitar:

capo 5 (resized).jpgcapo 5 (resized).jpg

OK, you got me on this one, this is a must have! (Give them props, that guy does give good guitar lessons on Youtube).

Just bought a 2012 Gibson Moderne today. Always been a curiosity of mine. I’ll report back once it arrives.

Just picked one of these up for my birthday. I’ve been playing guitar for over 20 years and this is the best OD/Distortion pedal I’ve ever used. Extremely versatile and excellent tone worthy of the Soldano name. I play crystal clean Fenders or Blackstars and get all my crunch from my pedal board - this blew me away.

I don’t have anything high end like yall, but this is my main fiddle. My parents picked me up this les paul used in austin texas and I fell in love with it. I have only been playing about a year so still a lot to learn but I have kind of surprised myself with what I can play so far.

One thing I know nothing about is effects. Was kind of thinking about a fuzz pedal, what else would be good? I play beatles, hendrix style stuff. Not into metal really.

Go into a good music store and tell the guy who you want to sound like and play some of the pedals they suggest.

I told the guy “David Gilmour” and I was happy with his suggestions.

One thing you should know about fuzz pedals is that sometimes they are hard to tame. In other words, they take some tweaking and tend to be noisy. If you just want to plug and play, I’d go with a distortion pedal as your first pedal.

Or get a Kemper Profiler.

#1296 1 year ago
Quoted from beelzeboob:

Or get a Kemper Profiler.

I own a Kemper myself and love it. But at this stage of the game, I would suggest a POD GO. It is the best bang-for-the-buck, great sounding modeler out there. You will get a chance to try out all kinds of effects, routing, and combinations. It shares the sounds of the full size Helix, but in a smaller package. You can't run as many simultaneous blocks as the full size, but again, at this stage of the game that isn't a big deal for a new player. There are a lot of good options out there that owe their existence to the Kemper. It took them nearly a decade to catch up to it's ever-updated design. What other product is still running the original hardware, and is still considered top shelf 10 years later?

I've been through every stage of guitar effects: crappy multi-effects of the 90's, first tube amp with a few pedals, G-System with pedals in a rack, full custom pedalboard that I built myself (including the compressor and all of the drive pedals), and now a Kemper. In many ways, this is the golden age for musical gear: There is still access to real amps and pedals, inexpensive guitars are easily found that are often built to manufacturing standards that make them actually playable, and many modeling units are indistinguishable from "the real thing" in a FOH or recorded session.

since we're discussing modelers - I'm Curious if anyone has tried the Neural DSP? I've got a Helix, which is not bad, although it kind of sucks at the kind of tone I'm chasing lately - the recent Richie Kotzen / Winery Dogs sound.

I've also owned the Roland VG-99, but I've honestly never found a better tone than in the ORIGINAL Roland VG-8, from what.. 1996?

Have you tried custom IR's in your Helix? That can make a world of difference. The interface and effects on the Helix are great.

The Quad Cortex is really good. They are basically continuing what Kemper came up with, but with the advantage of a decade of advancement in processing power, and several other manufacturers to pull ideas from. I have several friends who have switched over with great success.

Absolutely. I have the Uberkab and Ownhammer IR's.. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I've had it for 2 years and just really not happy with it overall. It's SO easy to edit and tweak, but I really don't like spending hours tweaking - and after 2 years of this... I'm thinking about trying something else. Lots of people are happy with theirs, but I'm not so sure it's a good fit for me.

I think the goal with modelers should always be to find your base tone, and stick with it. That is what you do with a real amp, isn't it? With my Kemper, my method has been assigning a profile to each guitar, and I add the effects as needed. There are some guitar/profile combinations that just have a magic. Where people get into trouble, and it is easy to do when you have nearly unlimited options, is to find oneself in endless choice purgatory. If you haven't found your base tone after 2 years with the Helix, maybe it is time to try something else. The good news is that you can probably sell your Helix for a high percentage of the cost you paid. I am sure that there is more than one band you like that is using some modeler live: find out what they are using, and how they are making it work. Even people with amps on stage are often only using them for stage volume: FOH is from a modeler.
