I have like 4 of these and still am tempted to buy another.

Quoted from SunnRAT:

I picked up a Laney AOR 50 watt head recently. The cabinet case in the back has a 612 cab that takes 6 ohms. The Laney can bet set at 4 ohm load impedance. Now I just need to get some speakers.

I've recorded this amp a number of times back in the day. Cool sounding amp. Those Sunn cabs rule as well, but that 6 speaker thing is always a pain in the ass. What are you looking at?

Given the rest of your gear, I figure these would be right up your alley:

The guitars that get the most work right now. My USA Peavy EVH Wolfgang Special and the custom Belcat I found at a flea market.

My Wolfgang is the 98 but since 96 when I got my first guitar (Epi LP-100) I always wanted it.

The Belcat I stumbled upon at a flea market. Belcat is a guitar electronics company and this was a model used to show off the pickups. It’s a one of a kind I guess. I have Martins, Gibson and guild acoustics that I don’t play over this one. It’s been played at every show I’ve done in the last seven years.

Didn’t know this existed till the other day. Love sharing photos of the gear.

This cab came with a pair of Carvin British, a pair of Peavey Scorpions, and a pair of Sunn (Eminence) transducers. I put the Carvin British in my 412 with the original Sunn speakers it came with. Was thinking Swamp Thangs for low end but I like what I'm reading about the Dire Wolfs!

Figured I'd put my name in the hat of guitar players also in the hobby.

I’ve kind of turned into a Fender guy over the years. Here are the three I play the most:

American Professional II Jazzmaster (blue)
Troy Van Leeuwen Jazzmaster (red)
Troy Sanders Signature Jaguar bass (silverburst)

I’ve also got a Squier Vintage Modified Baritone Jazzmaster that I use for some down-tuned stuff.

Prior to those, my main guitars were a an HH Jaguar, and a couple of Epiphone Les Pauls (one of which I’ve modified to house a built-in Kaoss Pad). I still have them all. Just don’t play them much.

It is! I have the original pick guard, too. I kinda want to cut a plain black one. Either that or gold pearl (but then I’d also want gold hardware to make it extra gawdy).

Has anyone built DIY 500 Series stuff? I bought a Sound Skulptor MP573 kit. It shipped quickly and the directions were decent. I've built guitar pedals, phono preamps, pinball boards and displays DIY, this was a different experience. I took plenty of breaks and split it over 2 days, but I think this took over 6 hours including testing. It may be the circuit it's emulating, or a space constraint, but this was brutal. There were no efficiencies in the instructions. Every step had you reaching for different value components. Polarities were literally every direction, up, down, left and right facing. I haven't done any recording yet, but it functions and seems to add some warmth. I think the extra 5 spaces are gonna cost me a lot of money, need a compressor next.

Including $7.70 for the FT-1.

Really good price, so I bought two of the FT-1 tuners. I must be doing something wrong, because I can't get either one to light up. I've tried both batteries in both units (only fits one way and the polarity looks correct). I would appreciate any suggestions.

I get e-mails from Guitar Center for their Deal of the Day. I pass on most of the "deals" but purchased The Trapper by Fender this week for 90 bucks. Interested in hearing the octave mode (but haven't tried it yet since it came with no 9V battery or 9V adapter).

I’m not sure what your situation, but I would buy (within reason) the best guitar you can afford. For example, consider a Fender Stratocaster for around $850 (new). With guitars, you generally get what you pay for. For example, I think you will find a Squier won’t stay in tune as long as a more expensive guitar. With that being said, the Squier is okay for what it is, but if you stick with the guitar you will quickly grow out of it. I can’t speak to the Glen Burton.

Always way cheaper to buy guitars used.

Drawback is there could be mechanical issue with used that the seller/company is not informing you.

For instance, I bought a used epiphone Les Paul Standard to hopefully get my daughter into playing. Aside from the deal being on Musician z friend website, I had to buy it online given we are close to 2 hours away from a Guitar Center.

Once the guitar arrived and I tuned it up… I realized the fret board is a little bowed. I don’t know the technical term for this, but I had to have my friend who is a local tech adjust things to get it aligned.

It’s one of those things to consider is inspect these used products before you buy.

#1221 9 days ago

The other thing I’ll say is that if you order a guitar make sure to take it to your local guitar shop to get a proper set up done. They will adjust the action (i.e, the height of the strings relative to the frets) and so forth. If you have a proper set up, it will help your playing. It does make a difference.

It's a buyers market on craigslist for guitars, there's always so goddamn many of them.

Guitars are a lot easier to buy than they are to sell.

If I could at all avoid it, I'd stay away from garbage like Squiers, and really wouldn't seek out an Epiphone either.

You can buy a real, USA made SG or Les Paul Studio for like 800 bucks. You can get a Mexican Strat for even less, or a used USA strat for around the same price. You'll see these deals even at guitar stores selling used gear.

If you can afford it, that's really the way to go rather than Chinese garbage.

I'm not too shy about online guitar buying, I've bought MANY and had zero issues. But CL or your local shop is a great option to "try and buy."

Online guitars I've bought -

98 or so SG special
2008 Les Paul Custom
1970 SG standard
1979 Les Paul Deluxe
1993 Les Paul Standard

All have show up as advertised and without issues. I know it only takes one bad deal to sour it all though.

I agree with Levi regarding used, but make it easy on yourself as a first time buyer and buy from a reputable shop. You can still by used there and take comfort knowing you have support if needed. At this point, you have enough to worry about just learning to play.

Sure thing! Hopefully he's got some good shops around. You may pay a little more for used gear at a shop but it's a great option for first-timers. Ive bought most my gear used from either shops or online.

The only new guitar I ever bought was a USA strat last year at Chuck Levins in DC. Great place to buy gear and ALWAYS good discounts off list, which I didn't even realize was an option these days. I think I got around $300 off the "guitar center price" on this brand new axe.

Gotta say, these made-in-Mexico Player's Strats sound incredible and play like butter. Pretty nice little guitar...

Yeah but if you get it for pennies in the dollar. The next best piece of advice is to take the guitar to a tech immediately for a setup, usually cost $50-75 but you will find any issues plus it will play much better.

IMO this is the best guitar for the money (Like an $800-900) price range: PRS SE Custom 24-08. Well made. Versatile. Comfortable. Beautiful.

Mint one on Reverb: https://reverb.com/item/59890331-2021-prs-se-custom-24-08 (Not mine, although I do have the same one) It's a "Do anything" guitar.

I have a PRS and absolutely love it. If you can get over the fact it’s not a Gibson or Fender, it’s a fantastic guitar. I completely agree.

Agreed on the PRS SE’s. Great guitar for the money.

I got this Fender amp recently. I'm looking forward to eventually playing thru 2 amps but for now will just spend time with one. Lead tone thru the Band Master and rhythm thru the Sceptre on a loop I think would be good.
