Quoted from cottonm4:

I no longer own a special car to add to these pages, but this is not about a car. This post is about----well, just minute, first----I learned to drive on the Kansas Turnpike in the 1960s when the posted speed limit was 80 MPH. Then in 1973, President Nixon took all speed limits down to 55 MPH. Those who lived thru those dark days will agree that---IT SUCKED !
I just got back from picking up a pin in El Paso Texas.
Three miles west of Odessa Texas, on I-20, I saw this !!!:

For the next 250 miles I got to legally drive 80 MPH for the first time in 43 years. I"m a 5-over guy. I had a blast. It would have been worth the trip, without getting a pin, just to be able to wave at the Trooper as I blew past at 85 MPH I mean, I was only doing 5-over
You guys with these nice, fast cars, ought to take a trip out to west Texas and open them up.

Utah, for the past three years. Wyoming for the past two. Rural Nevada for over a year. Plus Texas non-toll roads (some of them are 85). I'm sure there's more.....

Montana!
Have exceeded the speed limit there a few times. On the Interstates only. I-90, and the highway between Sweetgrass and Great Falls I -15, one time between Great Falls and Helena a H.P. going in the opposite direction gave me a wave and a leer that warned me to slow down. Still I remained a constant speed of 90 MPH.

I remember those fun years ('96-'99) when Montana went back to no daytime speed limit; Well, whatever "Reasonable and prudent" meant at the discretion of "Officer Friendly".....

Me too, drag raced, road raced and ran it on the Bonneville Salt Flats a couple times. Here's what it looked like when I ran it out at Bonneville in '93. The picture was taken at the World of Wheel show in St Paul, MN in '94. I took First Place in my class. Then took it to the Duluth, MN World Of Wheels show 2 months later and won First Place again.

Nothing else like Bonneville, eh?

Quoted from ToucanF16:

Pretty cool. Did you top it out?

Yep, North American speed limiter was deleted. Picture shows aerodynamic drag limit plus the salt was a little soft on the surface which caused a bit of drag. But it offered excellent traction.

Note how many miles were on the car at the time.

Quoted from MustangPaul:

Cool, you've been there. What year was that?

Turbo power!!! I love the GMC Syclone (and Typhoon) and Grand National, way ahead of their time when they came out. I used to have a 95 Ford Lightning with the Windsor V8 and a buddy owned a Syclone and I was mighty impressed by what it was capable of. Alot of people think American car manufacturers just got into turbo charging within the past 10-20 years.

My late Dad had bought an '80 Buick Regal Turbo. No Grand National or GNX that year but hey.

Tesla's factory paint options are so boring. I had to take matters into my own hands.

The chrome blackout helps a lot. Now I gotta do something about those rims and maybe tint the windows.

Saw this Model S today in Troy, Michigan. Plastidipped. Horrible job on the hood, uneven application. Looks good 15 feet away but that's about it.

Nowhere near as nice as the stunning paint job you had done to your P100D

That could be a vinyl wrap. The hoods surface should be matte or semi gloss, it looks like it has been rubbed with a strong chemical, also rubbing a matte finish will make it look different. Removing bird droppings, tree sap, (Unless it is done right away), has to be done carefully. Last year we received a 2 page memo from Mercedes Benz on matte finish maintenance.

It was definitely "dipped".

Had one of those Evel Kenivel helmets. My dad bought two of them for us to use with our Honda 70 in 1972. $9.00 apiece at Arlan's.

I still have my trail 70. The faster red one, not the crappy gold or blue. Ha ha.
That thing can sit for months, turn on the gas, hit the choke and kick it twice and off you go.

CT70H. H for hand clutch, not the pussy 3 speed clutchless version. My late dad actually licensed it and took it to work (old Detroit Police HQ at 1300 Beaubien) using surface streets and parked it inside with the cop cars. This was during the Arab oil embargo in 73 or 74.

Quoted from mikehay1:

We just finished a 23 day, 15 state over 7,000 mile trip in a 2015 Challenger. I had no problems with the car at all and pulled 26.5mpg overall. The Challenger was quite popular at some of the stops and was always fun blasting thru the mountains. This is my 5th dodge and I am a huge fan of the Hemi, the front suspension on the older (my 2007 Charger and Magnum) not so much.

Three years ago right now, my son & I were in the middle of a two week, 7700 mile road trip. It was awesome. Although pinball was not a primary reason for the trip, we did make it to the Pinball Shack in Temecula to deliver some special Backglasses, play some pinball and happened to drive home with a Bally Wulff wall mount poker machine. Also hit some of what remains of Bally & Williams today. Also did a couple of speed runs at Bonneville.

Speaking of the Plum Crazy color, we saw this gem in Washington not far North of the Oregon border.

The interiors of Cadillacs and vettes of that era do not hold up well. I bet the leather on the original seats were cracked all to pieces. Fitting door keys when lost are a pain in the ass but the telescoping steering columns are great. I can fit switch keys in 5 minutes.

Nothing like those old GM Sidebar lock cylinders, eh? Except for the glove compartment lock of course.

Those steering columns were fun to dissassemble as long as you have a harmonic balance puller and that U-shaped compressor to remove the locking cam circlip. Then remove the lock, read the code number from the case, look in the HPC code book and cut a new key. I used the older Curtis Clipper with the wheel myself.

Not nearly as pretty, here's my "hall of fame"

Two clutches and a pressure plate from my sons TT One was the original that had about 155k and the other is the replacement "high performance" one that cost quite a bit more than stock. He got about 20,000 miles out of it. Let me tell you, transverse powertrains on an AWD car are no fun to R&R a transmission on.

Finally, there is a gear. First gear to be precise, from my '01 Beetle Turbo. I let my son use it when he started driving legally (and I use that term loosely). Unfortunately, he learned my sins and was having lots of fun in an open parking lot with several inches of snow and a layer of spotty ice below the snow. What any 16 year old motorhead would do such as reverse donuts (it's FWD) and other stuff. He obviously was slamming between reverse and first or 1st & 2nd and went from no traction to full traction. After that, the car never went into 1st gear again. He comes home and says: "uh, dad, I think we need to adjust the shift linkage as something isn't right"....

The pictures of the gear tell the story. That was another fun project....

At least him being a motorhead and teaching him car repairs has made him unafraid to tackle any vehicle repair jobs. He now repairs my cars for me so I don't complain at all.

Ouch!

You did see my son's similar issue in posts 1206 & 1209, correct? Dealer wanted a little over $11k (more that the car cost when he bought it three years earlier). We did it ourselves and went beyond stock with forged rods for less than $4k (we valued our labor at $0/hr though).

And 85 top end on the speedometer said it all about the era of Detroit at the time.

That was a US Federal regulation. Even Ferrari's sold here had 85 MPH speedometers. I had an '80 VW Scirocco that had an 85 MPH speedometer. I removed the pin so the needle would hit about 95 before hitting the Trip Odometer reset stem.

Quoted from tjprice222:

How do you like it? It’s on my short list for my next vehicle but I’ve read mixed reviews about it. The interior sure looks nice for a Nissan. How does it ride and handle? Does the seat cooling feature work well?

I rented a brand new one (6 miles on the odometer) this past week in Reno. Quiet, comfortable, lots of torque, adequate acceleration for the heavy vehicle it is. Noticed the slower acceleration on the uphill grades and on-ramps. No worries in the snow at Donner Pass on I-80 where chains were required if you did not have 4WD. Per the Nevada Registration, cost was $51,941.00

Very thirsty vehicle. No better fuel eCONomy than Ms Bally's old Envoy XLT though. Gas at Costco was exactly $1.00/gallon lower than a Unocal 76 by the airport.

I'm actually LOLing at all the V6 h8tred. I get it... 8 is better than 6.
My first truck/car was a 1970ish crap brown Datsun pup... 4 cyl gutless wonder.
It fell apart; so I got a 1980ish Nissan (IIRC) p'up. Still a 4 cyl gutless wonder.
I drove a Izusu 4cyl through-out college and for the first 4 years of my professional career. I finally donated it when I got my first new V6 Dakota. Compared to those gutless wonders the Dakota and now the Raptor are worlds better.
Do I care that it's not a V8; not really because unlike a collector's item that's going to sit in my Garage … this Raptor is my daily driver. I actually DO care about gas mileage. I know it seems silly to a lot of you; but I'd blaspheme the Car heads here for a detune of the twin Turbo V6 in my raptor to gain another 5 - 10 MPG like the original eco boost in the stock F150s. I'm also going to consider Street Tires when the stock offroad tires wear out... ESP if it helps with MPG and for me to remove the speed governor.

Wouldn't you want to remove the speed limiter on the V8 for an even higher top speed?
