Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:Nice review of the 2020 Corvette C8
Naturally asperated mid-engine V8, 495HP, 0-60 in 2.9 sec., nearly 200MPH for around $80K as shown.

My neighbor works for GM he has had 2020 vettes in his driveway for the past few months.
Today he has a white one. Winter camo...
yes in the snow! must be testing traction control.

Quoted from trufflepiggy:

They are still in producing parts for them, and there is talk of a third generation all electric Avanti.
https://www.nostalgicmotorcars.net

His web page says he is going to retire. https://www.nostalgicmotorcars.net/retirement.html
As well as selling used cars, none are Avanti. And replacement dash pads.

I work next door to them. Right now he has 3 Avantis out front under tarps. Really who stores care like that?
Out back there are body shells and tooling for making parts.

Electric Avanti III https://avantimotors.com/tomorrow/ sorry not much information here. I will dig deeper.

My friend said the Avanti II needs to be put to rest after a 4 door {ugly as F} and Convertible models were made in the late 80s. At some time it was using a Chevy Caprice. Then a resurrection and production moved it to Mexico. But only a few were produced.

For more accurate information: https://avantimotors.com/the-avanti-story/

Me, I love the Original Avanti and First generation Avanti II with Corvette motors.

I love the way they look, but if a sports car doesnt have a manual transmission, its a no buy for me.. Yes, I am one of those people haha.

My two sports cars have manuals and yes they are a lot of fun...but if I were to buy a C7 or C8 I would seriously consider the paddle shift auto.

I don't know why, but in Europe Ford only sell one kind of Mustang with "almost all extras"

It is the High import duties, Ford figures that their buyers would want most/all the extras and can afford them so thats what they import.

Will your Cybertruck have bulletproof glass? I'd prefere the Z06,they are a blast to rive, and you can "refill" the tank in a matter of minutes

Quoted from jsyjay:

Picked up this air-cooled, rear-engine, Polish made, Fiat 126 at the weekend.
It's a non-runner at the moment and I am tempted to put in a Tesla small drive unit and a couple of Model X/S battery modules.
The original 650cc engine has a whopping 23hp where as the Tesla motor has a max power of 300hp![quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

I doubt is the chassis could handle the weight of the battery and the torque of the motor.

#2581 2 years ago
Quoted from Deaconblooze:

I'm guessing it can't fit a pin? It looks like the opening is big enough, but it seems like the rear seats don't fold flat, and that sloped back is probably also an issue.

My nephew has an ICE Mustang and a pinball machine won't fit in it either. But he bought an F-150 about a year ago & still has his Stang.

Most ICE Mustang owners hate the use of the Mustang name on a four door sedan/EV. I think " E-dsal " would have worked fine.

#2584 2 years ago
Quoted from jsyjay:

The motor weighs 200lbs and two battery modules would be 100lbs so not too bad.
Torque ramp can be adjusted in the ECU/BMS.

I think you dropped 1 zero. I did a search: 1,060 pounds for long range, 714 pounds standard pack Estimated/calculated from numbers below

The Standard Range version carries 2,976 cells arranged in 96 groups of 31. The Long Range version carries 4,416 cells arranged in 96 groups of 46, and weighs 1,060 pounds (480 kg) in a 0.40 m³ volume; a density of 150 Wh/kg.

#2588 2 years ago
Quoted from jsyjay:

Two battery modules, not packs, which would give roughly 30 mile range.
I live on a 9 x 5 mile island so range isn't really an issue!

A golf cart could suit your needs.

#2590 2 years ago

That's basically what an EV is, just way more expensive!

but we had this in 1975, I guess the sell for about $5-7K on Ebarf

Last after 18 years of sitting I got the Malibu running. I soaked the cylinders with Marvel Mystery Oil, the next day I could turn the crank so I bought a battery and cranked her over for 5 minutes. I put the plugs back in and splash of gas a few times and she lit up. Next I bled the brakes. My goal was to get it running and stopping to get a four post lift installed.

What's the deal with newer cars/trucks and the expensive windshield replacement? Seems like the newer models with radar devices located on upper windshield now have to be calibrated with the installation of a new windshield? I about fell over when they first quoted me a price of $1400 for a new windshield with calibration. Gone are the days of calling up your local windshield guy that comes to your driveway and installs a $250-$300 windshield. I am on my fourth windshield for my Taco and my second windshield on newer 4Runner. Here is some advice-don't buy into what some dealers and nationwide glass companies are selling. First of all, I have never had my four windshields 'calibrated' for my Taco. I signed a waiver and told them not to do calibration and guess what? The radar works just fine and calibration was not needed. After Safe-lite recently quoted me $1400 and said we have proprietary glass that we make ourselves- blah blah blah-you will not find a better deal anywhere else. I told them thank but no thanks(go pound sand) and I will go shop around. Found a place to do it for $740 including 'fake' calibration. Sorry for venting but I think a lot of people are getting bamboozled when it comes to windshield replacement. Don't get bamboozled</blockquote

My 2000 Corvette is about $1200 because it requires a new gasket, and its about $250.

Quoted from spooonman:

hey bob_e, question for you -- what height & brand is your car lift? i've been thinking of getting one, but wasn't sure if the ceiling in my garage is high enough; that lift looks like it might fit. thanks in advance, and congrats on the beautiful c8!

Tuxedo FP8K-DX For details: aresco.org/4_post_FP8.html

I have 117" floor to ceiling. Rule of thumb is add the height of the two cars plus 10" that is the minimum you need.
I have about 4" of garage door to ceiling, After I had new, LIFTMASTER, side pull opener installed and the door tracks moved tight to the ceiling.`

117-4=113" the 48" Corvette+ 52" Panoz +10" = 110" just 3" to spare.

Quoted from spooonman:

Hey, Bob, thanks for the great info! I've got some measuring to do, but pretty sure this will work after I move my door opener and tracks.

Because there is more vertical lift on the door, they changed the springs on the jack shaft, to accommodate for the load. Also my springs were 30 years old and should be replaced anyways.

Just curious about the members in this thread....
At what point do you consider yourself more into pins or more into cars?
I'm contemplating a stupid purchase (I know it's purely a whim)
I just haven't created the mountain of the decision yet.
The money is a question, but not unattainable and no, there will be likely no return on value invested.
Just curious to what extent would you put yourself out to make a knowingly dumb purchase.
Sorry for the wordy ask, but really kind of wavering here and not sure what to do.
And for the non Canadians (most of you) keep in mind my purchase would likely be at retail plus shipping plus a 37% exchange rate and another 13% tax.
Ugh

Cars, Pins hmmmm. Well I have three cars and 8 pins in the house. I just bought the C8 and Deadpool 2 years ago.
