I also still have my 2001 Ford Ranger I bought new. 4.0 l auto 4×4. It's been a great truck and super reliable. I'm pretty sure every vehicle I will own will be judged against this truck.

Quoted from crlush:

I never cared much for 4bangers or v6 cars growing up but my buddy got his ass spanked by a grand national and he had a demon with a 440 big block v8. I still want a 77-78 smokey and the bandit trans am but stock i dont think they had 200hp.

As did I, but I knew I was going to get crushed. I was a high school kid with a 440 in a Coronet. The Buick was bad ass and own by a guy in the Air Force. I only raced cause my buddy wanted to see me get beat so he managed to scrape up 10 for gas for me. Eff it haha. I remember sitting on the line listening to that turbo spool up, then he was gone!! The good news is on the way back I guess this guy in an El Camino thought I was easy prey and wanted to race back(after asking if he could flip his air cleaner lid over lol) . Sorry buddy, that 440 had more than enough for that lil 3fiddy. Good times!!!

Nice hoodspotting too. That is a 1 of 5 Carbon fiber hoods in that model and really works well with the Toxic Orange paint.

New member. One of my many interests - Mopars.
The 69' is completed. Original everything (except the garbage AVS carb), number matching throughout. Because it's stock, she drives like a boat, but does pin you back in the seat under mild acceleration.
The 68' (on body jig) was my first car upon receiving Driver License some 41 years ago! I bastardized the car in my teenage years, so very little is original.
All new steel (AMD), new chrome, full US Car Tool frame stiffening kit, upgraded suspension, pearl white interior, etc. She's currently in the blocking and priming stages. Paint shall be 2014 Dodge Challenger sublime. 440 six-pak, Dana, 4-speed, console pistol grip - all the Mopar goodies!
Oh, R/C model airplanes too - my true vice

Awesome Chargers!! Why not go with a modern Hemi on the 68?

I had a feeling the 440 was already built. Remember, these new hemis run for hundreds of thousands of miles.

The pin comparison is maybe a little off, because with a lot of the Stern pins the Pro is the way to go.
GOTG for example, why buy the more expensive models? You gain little except an emptier wallet.
With the Vette, if you sold the Z06 in say 4 years, do you get some of that $35k premium back when you sell it? By that, I mean if it’s $95,000 now and the other one is $60,000 now, in 4 years are they worth say $60,000 and say $35,000 respectively? Or does the cheaper model lose less value? I don’t know the market for used cars here. In NZ they halve in about 3 years.
That’d factor into my thinking if I was buying. But that’s me.
Hey, I’d probably take $50k with me and go buy this one. Cause I’m a tightass

Best truck ever made!
I do have a word of advice...my 2018 Tacoma windshield just got hit by a rock on the highway and cracked the windshield. I called my aftermarket windshield guy I have used in the past to inquire about a new windshield. He told me that it is too new for aftermarket and that the lane changing departure radar system on the windshield requires re-calibration. Long story short it is going to cost me nearly $1200 for a new factory windshield with re-calibration. I about shit my pants, I am used to paying $250 for a new windshield. I also found out that the dealer offers a windshield protection plan for $399 for 5 years. After I spend $1200 on a fricking windshield I will fork over $399 for the warranty. If you have not gotten the windshield warranty-call the dealership and have it added on before you are in the same boat as me ):

Yep, best truck ever!!!

#1241 6 years ago
Quoted from someotherguy:

Yep, that car belongs to a guy I know - late model Challenger - these engines are known for not tolerating much boost on the stock bottom end. I don't know if he had spent the money to go forged or not, but it's possible there were some issues with the builder. I already sent him some info on another engine. There are guys with totally streetable 1000HP+ monsters under the hood based off that engine but you gotta go forged, there's just no way around it.
Richard

Drop in forged pistons are required really for anything over 6lbs boost. The ring lands are too high in the Piston.

#1264 6 years ago
Quoted from crlush:

Its just funny that it broke off right at the valve relief, figured you over revved it and the valve hit it from valve float, my wife has an 2015 srt, only problem we have had was one smoked clutch, found out there is an orfice in the slave cylinder to slow the clutch movement (I guess to help inexperienced drivers take off but also makes it harder to shift fast) will be removing it in the spring.

Thats where they are breaking generally. The ring land is too small as is, then through in the valve relief and it gets even more thin and susceptible to break. ALTHOUGH, its is odd that his piston failed in a non-boosted application.

#1265 6 years ago

Oh yea, I forgot about the tune. Was going to say this might be a warranty issue..

Quoted from at_t_2d:

To me cars are about a lot more than a 0-60 number unless you live at the drag strip. Get something you enjoy and don't worry about what other people think. I wouldn't have gotten the RCF if I was trying to impress others, would have gone with an M4, Porsche, AMG C Class or something like that. I have a Fiero GT, that says a lot about not caring what others think......

Fiero GT. So much potential!!

#1385 5 years ago
Quoted from littlecammi:

Clearly a Fiero with a Ferrari F40 rebody kit (and not a real Ferrari).
Over the course of my twenties I owned a '62 Corvette, '69 SS396 L78 Chevelle, '70 Z/28 Camaro, '64 Corvette coupe and '76 limited edition Trans Am (the first with T-tops).
Then the era of big horsepower died and V6 Fieros looked good, so my wife and I owned four Fieros at one time:
yellow '88 GT automatic with leather seats and powered subwoofer (the rarest color with the two rarest options)
white '88 GT 5-speed
black '87 GT 5-speed
red '85 SE V6 automatic (wife's old car)
Those Fieros are all gone now that horsepower has returned, and we currently own the following:
305HP '96 Mustang SVT Cobra mystic (color-shifting paint) 5-speed - 7 miles on odometer
320HP '01 Mustang SVT Cobra mineral grey 5-speed - 55 miles on odometer
540HP '08 Shelby GT500 torch red with black stripes 6-speed - 9 miles on odometer
420HP '13 Mustang GT deep impact blue automatic (wife's current car) - her daily driver
444HP '13 Boss 302 gotta-have-it green 6-speed - 13,600 miles on odometer (driven by me in good weather only)
580HP '13 Camaro ZL1 inferno orange metallic 6-speed - 8 miles on odometer

Duh, I'm an idiot. He did a great job on it though!

#1411 5 years ago
Quoted from Pinless:

Easy there big guy. Just made a comment that I couldn’t imagine having cars and not driving them. No one is telling him what to do. He appears to have it all under control.

Some people think they are going to make a mint in 35 years on cars today. They won't.

#1414 5 years ago
Quoted from VacFink:

All collectibles go through this phase, a bubble. Cards, comics, toys. The auctions are driving up prices but doubtful it will sustain.
IMO buy a car to drive and enjoy. Presume it can be liquid but not at any dependable value, and in most cases, never at a higher value than when you bought it.
That said, market prices are a reality. I bought my most recent project because I felt like if I waited much longer, I'd be priced out. Already asking prices are 1-2 more in 6 months. Are they worth it, probably not, but those owners are sitting and waiting trying to 'get in' on the rush.

I agree. Problem is, we may not even have easy access to gas, so our cars will be monuments to a better time. Also, back in the day hardly anybody thought about future collectibilty. Nowadays half the buyers of "limited cars" store them for future collectibilty. Bless their hearts, but I'm a driver, not a looker. I wouldn't save my gf for the next guy, why would I my car?

You must love that truck!

#1449 5 years ago
Quoted from psd4me:

I like it well enough, wouldn't mind having a shiny new one. It would cost $70,000-$75,000 to replace it. I can't afford to spend that kind of money on something I mainly drive only in the winter now. I have an 01 PSD CC LB I bought new. Living in Il of course it's pretty rusty underneath at this point.
I picked up a complete 06 cab that came from Tx and a take off 11 bed. I'm going to put an 06 Harley edition grill and headlights on it and will be using the 06 int. So for well under $10,000 I can have a slightly updated int and a rust free body with out the big payments which leaves me more money for pinball.

Thats a solid plan and it sounds like you have the skills to make it happen. Post up pics when you can!

#1450 5 years ago
Quoted from Playdium:

Put an inline fuel filter in. You'll be sucking sediment forever from the tank on a car that sat that long. Nice find!!!

Replace the tank and any soft rubber components since its been sitting so long. Then run it!!! Nice find!!!

#1455 5 years ago

Nice, how are you liking that 392 HEMI!! M6 or A8?

#1470 5 years ago
Quoted from Reality_Studio:

I drive a 2018 ZL1 with the 10 speed auto, that transmission is brilliant not only for shifting fast always at the perfect time and keeping the engine near peak power, but it even auto downshifts when it senses you entering a turn. It will even sense (in Sport and Track modes) when you are driving aggressively and automatically switch to a shifting mode that keeps it in high rpm. If you settle down your driving the auto with automatically switch back to normally lower rpm gear selections. Even pro drivers pick it over the manual, and I think even Hennessy said the same.
Thing is, auto's have been faster than manuals for a very long time now. I used to drive a 1997 Camaro LT1 with an auto, paired with a 3200 stall torque converter, 3:73 gears and a reprogrammed auto set to shift faster. I would regularly beat manual cars that had more power than me because the converter helped keep it in the power band even though it didn't have many gears, along with the fast and perfect shifts. That was over two decades ago! Although nowadays you don't have to mod anything and the auto will still be faster.

All of this is true, if you are worried about the a few tenths in a 10 sec car or it's a daily in some highway hell. If not...

#1486 5 years ago
Quoted from tjprice222:

Hopefully, 30 years from now, self driving cars will actually be in use. There may even come a time when knowledge of operating a motor vehicle is completely unnecessary. It sucks because I'm one who loves to drive but I do look forward to the reduction of traffic autonomous cars will provide along with the reduction of accidents since all vehicles will eventually communicate with one another.

I pray I'll be dead before then. I can barely think of anything worse to happen. I know it's coming, it's not for me.

#1497 5 years ago
Quoted from littlecammi:

Ugh. Anything bigger than 20s (or maybe 22s) start to look like old western wagon wheels.

Agreed, even though I have 22's. Fortunately my rims and tires are pretty close to the same color, so they don't make the tires seems so small.

#1502 5 years ago
Quoted from VacFink:

The risk and future problem will be if they ever limit non-automated drivers from the same roads. IMO the upside of automation is getting people who don't like to drive and aren't good at it, away from their own incompetence, making my drive much safer. Neither is perfect, give the option of who I share the road with, I'll trust a mindless robot over a distracted idiot any day.

Problem is, we are moving to a completely autonomous system. I mean seriously people die everyday, we cant put everything in a rubber room for the safety of the "kids".

Finally bought me a 1930 Model A Ford Phaeton. My dad bought this exact same car back in December 1969 and had it for 20 years before selling it to a guy who owned it for almost 30 years until he passed away two years ago. I found the car by accident and sure enough it was the exact same car I grew up with. The car was put up for auction about three weeks ago and I drove away with it being the high bidder. Still can't believe it but I'm now the proud owner and reliving my youth of spending miles in that backseat along with my Sister and with Mom and Dad up front. This black and white picture from 1970 shows my Dad, Sister (six years old) and Mom winning the award for "the most appealing car". They didn't have time to make a back up run because the next day the event was canceled because of rain but they were still the first to go over 500mph. Check them out at www.teamvesco.com. I dont have the height in my garage for a 4 post, and I like the portable nature of the quickjack. When not in use, you can slide them under a car, hang them on the wall, etc....
That quicklift seems overpriced for what it is. It also seems bulky.

Mine will probably never see the sandunes of a desert; but who knows - maybe I'll take it off road one day.

Since you are in Austin, yea, you probably wont. I mean, you are the San Fran of Texas after all. Why would anyone expect you to understand a v8!

#1769 5 years ago
Quoted from tjprice222:

As a turbo owner, I have to disagree. One of the biggest benefits of the turbos are the crazy amount of torque in the low RPM range along with reasonable gas mileage for everyday driving. Here's Road & Track putting the Raptor V6T against the older V8:
https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-culture/videos/a32503/old-vs-new-ford-f-150-raptor-v8-v6-drag-race/
You can't argue with the specs:
2011-2016 6.2L V8:
HP 411 @ 5500 RPM
TQ 434 @ 4500 RPM
2017+ 3.5L Ecoboost V6
HP 450 @ 5000RPM
TQ 510 @ 3500RPM

Of course they could tweak the V8 to blow those #s away.

Back on topic.

#1771 5 years ago
Quoted from zr11990:

They could but for one that turbo 6 is going to require more expensive repairs that will have to be taken to ford to be done. People love all that high tech shit till it breaks and it isn’t under warranty then it costs a fortune to repair. I owned a zr1 corvette, never again. My Bette now is a 99 FRC with one powere seat. None of that high tech shit to break. And, with a cam, custom heads and a blower pushing 12 PSI it has more HP than the ZO6

Soo I'm confused. Are you pro v8, or no? I know that the eco boosts from a couple of years ago had issues at around 100,000 miles.

So I am a little bummed out this morning. I just ordered and purchased a new 2020 Toyota 4Runner. I have been wanting to upgrade our 4Runner to a new 4Runner with Toyota's safety sense technology for some time now. The 4Runner was the only Toyota model without this technology-until 2020. I have gotten so use to using this technology in my Tacoma, that I wanted the same in the new 4Runner. Well after driving the new 4Runner home last night I noticed it did not have blind spot monitoring? I was not happy and was upset. I got online this morning and read that all 4Runner models will not have blind spot monitoring? I am now like-WTF? I just sold my mint condition built 4Runner for this new 2020 model that I thought had all of the Toyota safety sense features? We love the 4Runner platform but now I am not sure what we want to do? Keep the new 4Runner with 20 miles sitting in our driveway or consider a Highlander or another Tacoma or something? I am kicking myself for not doing more due diligence and not realizing they do not come with blind spot assist. I have become overly dependent on technology and really want a vehicle with all of the safety features. Sorry if I am ranting-but I am pissed!

Hopefully it has mirrors, so not all is lost!

I can sort of appreciate what they were trying to do with the Blazer thing but the execution of it is terrible. The roofline of the modern Tahoe is ALL wrong for the classic body lines of the fenders, and those large diameter Rally-styled wheels look awkward and weird, and I'm NOT a "big wheel hater" (I have 22" Centerlines on my Silverado SS after all.) It's just weird, over-all.
Not specifically about the Scrambler pic you posted, but I kinda like the new Jeep Gladiator, it's cool as a 4 door Wrangler pickup type vehicle...but I see a lot of space in the aftermarket to give it some help. I absolutely cannot stand the appearance of the stock bumpers, tailgate, taillights, and wheels. Jeep really missed the mark on those styling areas.

My 87 Buick Grand National. It's all show and all go. Alky injected modified pretty good. I bought the car with arcade game and pinball sales back when you could buy cheap and make a profit on arcade and pinballs...
And then there is my 1989 Pontiac Trans Am cream puff. 30K original miles all stock. The only thing changed was the battery and tires. 1555 of them made in 1989 to pace the Indy 500. The first and still only car that did not need to be modified to pace the Indy. As is was built is how it was sold. t-tops and leather was the only options and most were. Fun cars for sure. It’s time to part ways with my ‘73 Javelin, after more than 20yrs. Figured I’d post it here first, since the funds will likely go to pinball anyway. Hit me up if you have any trades on my wishlist.
It’s now a project car, due to the small rust in the fenders and rear quarters, but is a good runner in original paint and way better than “barn find”. Engine and trans are not original, but it’s the correct 360 and 727 combo. Tons of upgrades: BeCool aluminum rad, MSD, Mallory UniLite, Edelbrock carb and intake, Hella lights, Hooker headers (not installed), etc…[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

GLWTS, but unless the pics lie, that is not a project car! A bit if rust here or there is one thing, but projects are like fender replacement, floor boards rusting though, frame rails shot, interior needing replaced. You have a nice driver that just needs a little work!

OK here’s mine, I’ll try not to get too long winded. My 1967 Mustang Fastback, I’ve had this car for 35 years, this was my daily driver the year I graduated from high school. I blew up the original 289 I replaced it with a 302 and then about 6 years ago I installed a balanced and blueprinted 351 Cleveland 4V into it. The car has a T5 manual transmission now with a 411 posi in the rear, I have the original Toploader tranny put away. I took these pictures today when I removed the car from it’s storage capsule to drain the fuel, put fresh clear premium in it and run it up and down my driveway. I lost my driving privileges two years ago due to epilepsy so I have not driven it since except for on my driveway which luckily is a half mile long. This car is like a time machine, when I get in it after all these years it instantly takes me back to my late teenage years, it is an amazing thing. One other thing I have noticed is that every year I get this car out and it looks more beautiful and I look a little worse
The pic of the car back in its bubble was the last pic I took today, every year I hope that next year will a better year for me and I will get to go cruise it again like old times.

Quoted from VALIS666:

Awesome cars in this thread! I always wanted a muscle car (GTO or Chevelle SS especially) but secondary to that I've always wanted a Jaguar. Bought this one (2007 S Type) a few years ago for a nice price. Just this week we were gifted this 2001 CLK320 from my wife's parents who are moving into an adult community and don't need two cars anymore. Both are RWD so nice and zippy and really fun to drive.
My wife would prefer that I sold one just to reduce garage/driveway/backyard traffic but I really can't decide. For one, even though they're both right around 100K miles and nice interiors, neither are worth much money at all, maybe $5K each on a good day. Maybe. The Mercedes feels more sports car, very short and low to the ground, very tight handling. The Jaguar is more luxury sedan, but damn that thing books. And the interior is gorgeous, cream leather with wood panels.
Seems stupid to keep and pay insurance on two cars when I work at home and basically drive them to the liquor store or CVS or whatever else I don't need the minivan for, but I really don't want to give either up, especially since I'm probably looking at $4K for either. Rather keep 'em and have fun zipping down Rt. 2 in the middle of the night.

I also ordered a JL Audio Stealthbox and a few JL amps the other day. The system wont be as crazy as the one in my Mustang (Sundown U12 sub in a 3cuft box being fed ~2200rms by an old Rockford Fosgate T20001BD lol), but it should be wayyy better than stock!
I probably wont do many, if any exterior mods. I don't like the extra attention, it's already bad enough here in CA for car enthusiast.. I am even going to install an exhaust cutout and use it to tone down the loudness by forcing the exhaust out of one tip vs two when I want to be more stealthy.

They are kinda heavy at 3,460lbs.. and according to Google:
"In 100% factory trim, a Focus RS could be expected to run the 1/4-mile in about 13.4 seconds at 103 mph."
However! With JUST an upgraded Front Mount Intercooler (FMIC), a downpipe, and a tune on e30, would put it at 403 whp / 461 wtq (measured at the wheel). Not too shabby for a 2.3L!
[quoted image]
I wouldn't buy this car if you care about 1/4 mile times, I would buy this car if you like carving canyons and taking turns at blistering speeds.. If I want to go fast in a straight line, I will grab the keys to my Mustang.

Cool thanks for the info and yea my question was just a quick performance indicator, I was more curious on the wieght. 350 HP is no joke in a small car and i bet its fun as hell in stock trim, let alone some upgrades. Plus AWD. I need to search for some launch vids!

Quoted from Strummy:

Exactly. Pinball machines included.

Yea, people seem to equate clean or neat, or maintained as OCD.

I think people just want to have a "problem" to tell people they have.

No, your not OCD, you just like shit clean.

That made me laugh. I do work at a psych hospital and have seen true ocd that you would not believe.

Thats diagnosed and cant imagine the difference between them and people that like stuff clea .. Most OCD sufferers are self diagnosed, and not really OCD.

Yeah the disorder of needing some sort of disorder.

Quoted from jsyjay:New project has arrived!
Classic Mini Clubman Estate with only 24k miles.
Picked this up from a guy who bought this when he was 16, worked on it for a few years before moving away when he was 19 and it's been sat in his dads garage for the last 10+ years.
I'm up to three Mini's now, thank god for my very understanding wife!
Picture of what I'm hoping it will look like at the end.

Quoted from pinmister:

So my friend just bought a new Tesla and stopped by to show it off and do a test drive. I am not sure what it is but I really did not enjoy driving it? What really bothers me is the gas pedal and how it decelerates quickly after taking your foot off the pedal. I am used to the car/truck gliding after taking your foot off the pedal. Reminds me of a giant(fast) golf cart. Not for me and I will hold out as long as I can. I do have a question-are all electric vehicles like Tesla with quick deceleration when taking foot off pedal? They need to figure out how to make it drive better-let it coast more?
Recently I decided to stop by Barnes and Noble and browse through some recent car magazines. I have to say it was a bit of a disappointment of what the future holds and I left feeling sick to my stomach. The hybrids and EV's are posed to take the market in 5-10 years. Possibly the worst article I read was about the all new Subaru WRX STI (STE) all electric vehicle being developed. They try and maintain the looks and aesthetics of the old Subaru WRX STI with a giant hood scoop and I thought to myself-why? Seriously looks ridiculous on an electric car.
[quoted image]

Porsche still uses "Turbo" on its electric vehicles.

I thought I would be able to pull a Ferris Bueller with his new ride and do some real driving. Basically told me I have to drive it like a grandma-where is the fun in that?

I am also really curious. I thought I would love the new Tundra when released but after driving it- I still liked my Taco more. Quoted from Deaconblooze:

I just bought my Father-in-law's 69 Firebird this past weekend. It came on short notice; they bought a condo with limited garage space so he decided to cut it loose. I had told him I would be interested if he ever sold it. When the surprise condo purchase came up, I let my wife's older brother know he had dibs. He passed (not much of a car guy). My wife really wanted it and I felt some obligation to keep it in the family. Plus it's fucking rad. It has a 350 installed, but I also took a Pontiac 400 he had buried in the garage since the mid 80s (what a pain that was to move).
I'm excited, but I won't have space for our 4 cars in the summer. My wife can't drive stick (yet), and I already own a manual 17 SS. I intend to keep that, too. I'll probably have to get storage unit or add on to my garage. I'm excited, but it happened quick, and I'll need to make some decisions on what I want this car to be. I like the original look, but I want some disc brakes and FI. The brakes will required sizing up the wheels to 15". Eventually I'd like to put in the 400, but that's a longer term project.
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

Much prefer the the Firebird/Trans Am over the Camaros. Looks good!

Could be urban myth.

Looks to be illegal in the sense of who could, or could not paint your car.

In a few years when demand catches up with supply it could be a different story. The Challenger Black Ghost is already skyrocketing in resale. With only 1000 Shakedowns and only 500 manuals-it is only a matter of time that it will start to become a collector car-just my opinion. [quoted image]

I have a F350 truck that is my primary/work vehicle. The Toyota has been parked in the garage since it was new. If I drive it in the snow or it’s gets salt/brine on it I wash it off immediately.
A janitors/utility faucet with hot and cold water in the garage is highly recommend to any one who loves their car/truck.
