is it a 440 ?

It's an R/T so most likely. Don't see a HEMI badge.

So sad

Quoted from DarthPaul:

This picture was taken over 5 years ago, so it is in much worst shape now. I don't have the time or desire or cash to do anything with it. I've thought about selling but I've had it for over 35 years, it's become a part of me. The funny thing is, it has never run right, out of the 35 years I've owned it, it has only been running about three of those years.

I understand the dilemma, I watched my father go through it as well. Always 'talking' about restoring and driving it, but months turned into years, and it continued to sit untouched.. It was a hard battle getting him to agree to sell it to me, and it probably never would have happened it if it wasn't for my mom trying to convince him as well. He still gives me a hard time for letting go of it for 'so cheap' (he still doubled his money from when he bought it in 92'), but he can't deny that the car is in better hands now. I fell in love with the car when I was a little kid and staked my claim on it.

Here I am admiring its beauty as just a little tyke.

I’ve had this car for 29 years but it’s finally time to let it go. I never drive it anymore.

Nice survivor TR3

That car appears to be in amazing shape for an old Triumph.

Decades ago I helped some guys build one that was pretty far gone; it had roofing sheetmetal for floor pans and a really cracked-up (enamel?) paint job; car was barely a 20-footer. It ran and drove OK but after a hard freeze damaged the engine (can't remember all these years later if it cracked the block or it simply overheated after he lost his coolant from the freeze damage) he decided on an engine swap.

The original 100-ish HP 4 cyl gave way to a Ford 2.3 ("Pinto" engine) with some upgrades; it got a performance cam and roller cam followers, cast iron header from a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, 4 barrel style intake that we first tried a 390cfm Holley on but it was a little much, IIRC we ended up using a 350cfm 2 barrel salvaged from shop owner's stash, I think it was the center carb off a Ford tri-power setup. It got the T5 transmission from the Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, also. Shop-made engine mounts, shortened driveshaft, changed the wiring from positive ground to negative ground, and a bunch of other work later..

Guy now has a 1960 TR3 that will blow the doors off a TR6 without breaking a sweat. Real sleeper with the original skinny spoke wheels, cracked paint job, etc. the only clue given that it may not be original are the Monza exhaust tips poking out, and the just-ate-a-whole-cake grin on the owner's face as he blazes by..

Back in the late 70s my best friend's dad had a '72 Triumph GT6. He'd autocross on Sundays at the local mall parking lot (mall closed due to blue laws). That began my eternal love for the inline 6, two seat, fast back form factor. My first two cars were 70s era Datsun Z cars, and I have previously posted my current BMW Z4 M Coupe here. I love the long hoods and the driver's position behind the center of gravity. It's a hoot when you break the back wheels free in a curve and start to power/throttle steer! I've promised myself that if I ever come across a decent GT6 I'll buy it on the spot.

It’s time to part ways with my ‘73 Javelin, after more than 20yrs. Figured I’d post it here first, since the funds will likely go to pinball anyway. Hit me up if you have any trades on my wishlist.

It’s now a project car, due to the small rust in the fenders and rear quarters, but is a good runner in original paint and way better than “barn find”. Engine and trans are not original, but it’s the correct 360 and 727 combo. Tons of upgrades: BeCool aluminum rad, MSD, Mallory UniLite, Edelbrock carb and intake, Hella lights, Hooker headers (not installed), etc…

I keep threatening to get rid of my British cars, but then I worry about where they might end up. Probably some stupid kid who drops in a V8, a thump thump thump sound system, and 21” rims.
Ugh!!!
We are all proud of our cars, right? We want them to be taken care of and enjoyed after we sell them on. The pride is much deeper for those of us who rescued them from scrappage schemes or from imminent destruction by a stupid owner and restored them.
Anyone can buy a fully restored car, but it takes a lot of everything to restore what others would consider to be junk.
All seven of my current cars came from bad homes, it’s like dog rescue but with old cars. My sister has three that she bought when I had to start saying “no more”.
And I am afraid to look at ads because I will find more!
The fleet:
1979, 1978, and 1973 Triumph Spitfires.
1968 and 1974 MGB
1980 Triumph TR7
1979 MG Midget
And just because a picture is worth a thousand words…

I suggest you buy a GT6 in any condition you can while they are still cheap. In the past 3 months there have been 3 restorable ones in my area, all under $2k and one restored for $7k. They are incredibly easy to restore or you can throw cash at one of the reputable British specialists out there and have a perfect car for about $10,000 to $12,000 and a daily driver for $6,000 to $8,000.
Remember, they are meant to be driven, real british car collectors don’t believe in trailer queens.

GLWTS, but unless the pics lie, that is not a project car! A bit if rust here or there is one thing, but projects are like fender replacement, floor boards rusting though, frame rails shot, interior needing replaced. You have a nice driver that just needs a little work!

Respectfully, and honestly, none of those cars are in danger of that happening to them.. not in the target market at all.

It was indeed. Cracked paint and all! He found it local "on consignment" at a small repair shop. Said he put in a new gas tank and had to get an alternator. The rest is pretty much as-was. It included the hard top which I have never seen.
He offered 6k and he took it home.

Thanks, I guess I just don’t want anyone thinking they can just pick it up as a daily driver…

It’s a nice survivor example with no filler and original paint… Pretty rare for any muscle car, and even more rare for an AMC.

Here’s a clip of how it sounds:

Are you sure about that? My most recent project is a 1973 Spitfire. It was sporting a 351 Windsor from a 71 Torino, wheel wells cut out and stretched to accommodate 19”” rims and the entire trunk (aka boot) was speakers and amps. After it was trashed and then crashed, the mod parts were all removed to be put in a Triumph TR6 (shudder) and I bought it just before it went to the scrap metal dealer. I wouldn’t have bothered but everything original was kept (in a field and shed) from before all the boy racer mods.
Remember how I said all my cars are like dog rescues?
I even ended up in a bidding war with another potential buyer for the 1974 MGB just to kill his dreams of turning it into the “ultimate low rider”.

Here’s what is going on with British cars. They are still cheap. Cheap means practice to some people, it also means no big loss if you wreck it. These are four I found just during the summer of 2021 on the Minnesota Craigslist:
1970 GT6 - rat rod conversion with scissor doors stretched frame and corvette engine trans and axle.
1973 TR6 - got a Nissan z engine and trans, bucket seats from an 90’s Camaro and there was new vinyl wrapping over lots of bondo.
1977 TR7 350 Chevy, side pipes wide 60’s roll cage entertainment center and racing seats… ugh…
1977 MGB on a Toyota 4x4 frame.

And don’t forget the many many Jaguar XJS 350 Chevy conversions with 20” rims.

Sadly “not in the target market” doesn’t apply. I take out any of my cars and someone will always comment that they wonder how hard it would be to fit one with modern crapnology or a V8. Then they ask if it’s for sale…
Here’s some fine images of British car mods from your local friendly internet:

Beats me.. must be a Florida thing. We don't see them done up like that around here.

And a Chevy 350 in an XJS is just natural. Nobody going to spend the money getting that V12 going again in a car that has almost no value.

Doesn’t just happen in Florida. Somebody didn’t see I mentioned four cars from the Minnesota Craigslist. It happens all over.
Honestly, I am not complaining. I am not a fan of modified, ratted, slammed, donked, raised, chopped or otherwise mutilated cars, but so long as they are being used and enjoyed by the owners, then I can’t complain. You do what you like, it’s your car, and if it pleases you then that’s all that matters.
My problem is I have invested a lot of BST in my cars and I would be picky about who gets to buy them. I would hate to see the TR6 go thumping by with a huge stereo, 20” rims, and a Mustang engine a few months after I sell it. Especially since the engine rebuild was one of my masterpieces.

A Chevy 350 in an XJS is not natural. That’s like a 3 cylinder Geo Metro engine in a 69 Super Bee because the 440 6 pack broke down. The entire value of an XJS is based that beautiful V12. I’ve rebuilt two, not for money obviously, because you will never recoup your losses.

Carry a spoon in the glove box, that way you can eat the ice cream while waiting for the tow truck. The engine is fantastic and the transmission is the best automatic ever (ZF 8HP), but the Jeep bits are still Jeep.

98% of all Jeeps ever made are still on the road today.

The other 2% made it home.

I hear this a lot but I have to say, my Durango (yes, not a "Jeep" but the same thing basically) has been great. I got it used with 24K on it. It has 90K on it now. The only thing I had an issue with was a hole in the radiator that was fixed quickly under warranty. And let me tell you, I do NOT baby this thing. It's a great size, runs very well, and I beat the crap out of it and it just keeps coming back for more. I have a lowly R/T with the 5.7 but I love the thing.

If you normalize the data, Jeep has about 4x the lemon law buy backs of Dodge, which places it just above Alfa and Fiat in reliability. Honestly, I wonder if Jeep’s poor reliability reputation is related to it also likely being the most modified vehicle. If 10% of RAV4 buyers added a light bar and body lift, maybe Toyota would have a poor rep, too.

I had one also. 2014 R/T and the ZF. Great vehicle, never had an issue. Only reason I ditched it was because I started commuting downtown and I didn't want to shove it into the small parking spots and get it banged up. I miss it quite a bit. 5.7 felt like plenty to me.

Nice car, all I would change is add a shaker hood scoop.

Quoted from Roostking:

GLWTS, but unless the pics lie, that is not a project car! A bit if rust here or there is one thing, but projects are like fender replacement, floor boards rusting though, frame rails shot, interior needing replaced. You have a nice driver that just needs a little work!

Totally agree. Not at all a project car. A little rust is expected. If it runs and looks that good, it's a good car. Don't give that thing away thinking it's not worth much. Looks awesome!

That's a 15 gallon NASCAR fuel cell in a custom steel heavy duty frame. That thing on the right is a tip over safety valve and the thing on the left is the fuel filter. The electric fuel pump is on the outside behind the back panel. I have no trunk now. LOL

Dropped my car off today. Convertible is officially traded in.

Time to begin suv life. Good thing it's one of the sportiest out there.

I suppose you consider yourself to be an alpha male now.

I have always liked the rims on the Alfa Romeo's, the circles are different and look sharp.

Mine are the optional 21" so the face is very flat. The standard 20s are much more concave

The pic attached is the 21s on my car before detailing.
