Did a quick search and didn't see one of these yet. 1967 Trabant 601S; the pride of East Germany. Won't hold a pin or win any races, but good cheap fun.

I love these little eastern block cars, but my favorite will always be the Lada Niva. Think Yugo built like a tank, 4wd with farm tires on it. They can go anywhere.

I really appreciate the "What IS that?" factor. The price point on these cars isn't bad either; decent running examples are easily less than half the cost of a new pin.

I learned to drive a stick on a Fiat 128. A fun little front wheel drive sedan with 14" wheels. Never see them around anymore. Was the steel as bad a early Datsun steel?

I learned the stick on a V6 '72 Mercury Capri. (:

Was that some sort of custom car? I thought Fiesta's were first made in '76 or '77.

LOL! Thank you. I corrected my post. It was a Mercury Capri. My dementia was thinking about my later Ford Fiesta. I’m just glad I didn’t call it a Mercury Fiesta.

Well after alot of work that doesn't really look like I've done much I finally have the cab on the truck. Now I get to have some fun putting clean parts back together instead of trying to get rusty things apart

Anyone else get a home lift to allow for storage of an extra vehicle? Or do the research and decide against it?

I'll spare you the long story of getting one 10 years ago, but I did. I'm using a 4 post from Greg Smith new in 2007. It's a Direct Lift branded which I just helped install a new one with a friend last year. They are (Old 10 year old vs. new) nearly identical with only some minor revisions like a second vent to the pump reservoir I guess for smell when you're bring the lift down. For the cost, and if you have space, it's a great investment to me. I'm assuming you're thinking 4 post. I wouldn't consider a 2 post for storage.

Yes, 4-post lift, preferably with a "tray" or other bottom to prevent any potential fluids from leaking onto the lower vehicle. I guess I can add one of my own or something. The other concern is making sure it's not held up merely by hydraulics, and that there is some secure locking mechanism (like 4 lock pins or something). Thanks!

#1616 1 year ago

I have a direct lift from greg smith also, couldnt be happier.

Yes they all should come with 3-4 trays. Mine are plastic and I actually bought a few extras early this year as they are cracking and getting brittle. It comes with a jacking tray which you can put a small bottle jack or small car jack. I’d recommend the sliding jack that will be useful if you’re planning on doing any work on your own cars. The tray is a junk collector. I got a sliding jack when I got my lift and was great for my friends 10 year project.

Some used compressed air (Bend Pak for one) and others like the Direct Lift/GS/Similar use a “ladder” like set up for locking. Both work and do the job. I personally didn’t want to deal with using a compressor when using lift (despite having a two stage 80 gallon!) and the locks work fine. Feel free to shoot a PM if you have specific questions. I’m only 12’ high garage and will tell you space is tight.

This is what they have. Go as wide and tall as space permits. Trust me on this. GS has regular sales and a local pickup with a car trailer will save you some dough. I helped set up the one last year in 1/2 day with help from 3 other friends I rented. The 8000 lb will be plenty and a little more compact. By all means go with a 9k if you have room. I have a small 24x32’ and the 4 Post was never a consideration. I had 2 post and was all I “thought” I needed. I guess it’s like pins.

#1618 1 year ago

Just measured and the garage in question is only 9' high. Even with relatively low cars (slightly lowered S2000 and stock Z4) I think it would be really tight.

#1619 1 year ago

Yeah, you can measure your cars and factor in the height of the deck of the lift. It may work for you especially if you don't have a garage door opener bracket or anything else in the way but 9' is really tight.

Quoted from crlush:

Same here.

#1621 1 year ago

Ok, I've crunched the numbers. All we need to do is trade the S2000 in for an Aventador and the Z4 for a Ford GT40 and our height troubles should be a thing of the past.

Heck you'll have enough left over to pay for the lift

2009 they only offered sedan's, wagons and coupes didn't come until 2010. I do like the wagons but still prefer a sedan, I think you can fit a pinball in a wagon. I do have an auto. and I prefer manuals, really enjoy rowing the gears, but at the price I got this sedan for I dont care.

Quoted from SilverUnicorn:

Chris

No Corvette engine which was the LS9, only the ZR1 would get, but very similar the V's engine is GM's GEN IV LS, LSA 6.2L SC 1.9L 556hp/550tq, doesn't take much to output that the gen III V's make. LSA was originally design for marine/boat applications I believe back in 2007, Caddie stuck in the gen II V's and rest is history, also the 2010 ZL1 Camaro (gen V) shares this same engine. Gen II V's set the world record for fastest 4 door sedan at the famous nürburgring

Thanks guys, its a dream car for me, last one on my bucket list is a 1969 Camaro SS

No I haven’t even gotten to the Mopar booth yet. Apparently it’s over there in a 68 Charger. There’s so much stuff to see it’s nuts. It makes Carlisle look like a yard sale.

Probably. The one HC crate motor retails in at $19k and change. Add another $3k for front accessory kit and harness/electronics and that’s no trans.
