Quoted from Roostking:

Yes. Anybody looking forward to autonomous cars and the lack of freedom of movement isn't a car person. Not sorry but have a great Sunday!

It’s only the reduction of traffic and accidents I’m looking forward to. It should make more time and room for car guys like us to get out on the road

#1502 5 years ago
Quoted from VacFink:

The risk and future problem will be if they ever limit non-automated drivers from the same roads. IMO the upside of automation is getting people who don't like to drive and aren't good at it, away from their own incompetence, making my drive much safer. Neither is perfect, give the option of who I share the road with, I'll trust a mindless robot over a distracted idiot any day.

Problem is, we are moving to a completely autonomous system. I mean seriously people die everyday, we cant put everything in a rubber room for the safety of the "kids".

Another possible problem with machine-controlled cars: A while back I read a recap of a test where a fleet of delivery vehicles in London, England had their GPS systems linked to the posted speed limits of all that city's streets, where the vehicles were prevented to exceed any of the speed limits. The test period resulted in numerous traffic jams with lots of cars stuck behind the delivery vehicles because the delivery vehicles weren't able to go over the limit and couldn't pass any other traffic.

Nice... Hard to believe that car is 25 years old. Did you have to use a broker to get it here?

#1513 5 years ago

It was imported by the prior owner, who used a broker.

There are lots of funky Japanese cars that can be imported. I've thought about getting a Mazda AZ-1 which looks like a gen I MR2 clone.

#1515 5 years ago

Wonder what it would cost to get one of the latest 300 SRT's out of Saudi Arabia...since they're not available here since 2014.

Aussies get 'em too but RHD would be a no-go for me.

Anything under $2500 doesn’t require a broker. You can self-import with 3 simple forms. Bringing my Cappuccino in was simple.

On average, say you import a $2500 vehicle from japan....what's the additional costs of shipping, taxes, import duty, fees etc...and any hoops to get it titled with dmv?

I found a reputable exporter in Japan. With them they give you access to the auction listings in Japan. Once I found a car I was interested in, they would translate the auction sheet. If still interested they would go to the preview and provide a full report on the car. Then they would bid for you. If you win, they transport to port, load on a cargo ship, pay for insurance and provide all necessary paperwork. Once it arrives at port you have 3 pieces of paper to fill out and you can self import through customs. All in, the exporter fees were around $2200. Import duty is only 2.5%, plus an unloading fee of around $90 if I remember correctly. I had zero issues with the title and registration PA. All went through without issue. The exporter did a great job explaining the process the whole way through.

Porsche owners, now there’s a group of sissy boy fanny packers that think their feminine car makes them look like a real man's man. Seriously fellas the cars are kinda girly.

But where's the image of your matching Porsche fanny pack?

You have to respect their performance, but I have never liked the look of Porsches. They look like stretched out VW beetles and just like VW beetles their basic shape/design never changes all that much. It just gets tweaked a bit every now and then.

My current line up. The GT is the crown jewel. Longest I have ever owned a car and the last true no traction control, all about your driving skill super car. I agree with a lot of the posters in this thread that I would miss having a stick but I enjoy the paddle shifting as well. The 458 and Aston are my daily drivers.
