Quoted from Fulltilt:

I've wanted a 635 for about as many years as I've been driving. I still catch myself looking at the eBay motors ads.

They're fun cars if you like classics and don't mind not having all the modern creature comforts. Also, if you don't want to depend on it as a daily driver.

There are some weak spots on them now that they're this old so if you are seriously considering one, look up a classic 6 series buyer's guide (BMW Mag did one many years ago, it's probably online somewhere) before checking out any cars. The front fenders can be bad about rusting out, if it's got the self-leveling rear suspension (generally on the later 80's cars) it can be trouble/expensive. Overall not bad cars though. Bimmerforums is a pretty good if I recall, but it's been years. Might also look at Bigcoupe forums.

The ultimate would be a gray market Euro M6 but you'll pay. And I do mean pay! But what a great looking car with a pretty fun level of power.

I don't know what it is... Mazeratis popping up all around the town. And I'm in N.E. Tennessee!
Closest Mazerati dealer is a good 90+ miles away... I don't think so.

Same thing here.
Possibly due to the lease special I have seen advertised, $699 month.

Quoted from crlush:

Would love a nice 87 one day.

It was by far the most fun car I’ve ever owned. It wasn’t the fastest, most well built, or best looking, but something about it made it the most enjoyable. (28# of boost probably didn’t hurt )

My wife said it was like riding in a parade with all of the waves, honks, pictures, and videos while cruising around town. Who would have ever thought an 80s G body would catch so much attention?

Buy the cleanest one you can find. I would not recommend getting one to restore. You could easily outspend the market value.

Quoted from at_t_2d:

category, I like our Lexus RCF. Very comfortable, 470 horse and you rarely see any others on the road.

Quoted from robertmee:

The RC F is a definite contender. Exactly the parameters I'm looking for. $64K is a little stretch but doable.
Edit: And RR Racing makes a supercharger for it

+1 for RC-F.

I am bias though.

I can’t see why you’d need a supercharger for it though. It’s pretty f**king fast out of the box. Unless you want to go racing. I did fit straight exhaust pipes to my old ISF (no rear mufflers) and it did sound super awesome.

Plus - being Japanese, and a Lexus, it never breaks down.

And 85 top end on the speedometer said it all about the era of Detroit at the time.

That was a US Federal regulation. Even Ferrari's sold here had 85 MPH speedometers. I had an '80 VW Scirocco that had an 85 MPH speedometer. I removed the pin so the needle would hit about 95 before hitting the Trip Odometer reset stem.
I had a 1981 Audi with the same thing. Once 1983 rolled around, I bought and installed a '83 speedometer that went to 130.

I know it wasn’t 85! (:

In contrast I had an ‘82 Cutlass. What a piece of crap. I’d be embarrassed to send it off the assembly line with the issues it had.

In researching the F type has the biggest disparity of 0-60 numbers I've seen....anywhere from 4.4 from lexus all the way up to 5.5 from some of the motor trend type tests. It scored the worse in an M4, CTS-V shootout too. Also now looking at the Quadrifoglio...0-60 in 3.6 and about the same price as the lexus. Build quality from AR would be the concern.

#1362 5 years ago

To me cars are about a lot more than a 0-60 number unless you live at the drag strip. Get something you enjoy and don't worry about what other people think. I wouldn't have gotten the RCF if I was trying to impress others, would have gone with an M4, Porsche, AMG C Class or something like that. I have a Fiero GT, that says a lot about not caring what others think......

Yes and No. I like performance and do take my cars to the track. I don't buy them for anyone but myself, though. I drive a 2003 Avalanche for Petes sake which lots of people make fun of. I like the quirky, low production and not what everyone else drives. I'm not knocking the F type at all...I was more wondering why the numbers are so disparite on them.

Anybody here own a VW Corrado?

Probably my favorite VW's ever produced.

I went to a Canadian show a while back (I think Waterwagons?) and they had a couple real clean Corrados with the super charged G60 engines, leather Recaro interior. Had me drooling.

I believe the cars rear spoiler adjust at high speeds as well on these. Fun stuff.

#1365 5 years ago

Re. VW Corrado
I Almost bought one after my two Sciroccos. Alas, I went with a Audi turbo quattro.....

Why would you were sell that car!!

#1367 5 years ago

We thought about selling our Audi after we got our Mercedes but just couldnt part with it. Its a comfortable smooth drive with a good amount of power. And well its got a custom A4 red paint job.

Pics of when we got it, still on the show room floor and after when I got winter tires put on. Its all serviced going on 75k miles strong.

I was a VW guy my whole life until I got a VR6 Corrado. The car was fun to drive when the electrical problems didn't rear their ugly head. My brother in law had a G60 and had electrical issues too. He then traded that in for a Jetta that developed electrical problems. I still have a 66,67,and 71 beetle, none of them have electrical problems....

Quoted from dasvis:

Not really true, they had an issue where debris would build up due to a gap over the engine compartment (leaves/pine needles/small twigs) and the debris would sit on the headers and catch fire. Recall came out and a weatherstrip took care of debris accumulating on headers. I’ve had 3 fieros and never any fires.

Google Street View camera picked me up with a pin in the bed of my '62 E100 taken back in '15.
I just realized sometime this week that possibly the reason why I love this truck so much is that it is sorta shaped like a pinball machine.
I'm not sure if anyone would want to play a guessing game of which pin it is in the back. It's a super low res screenshot and it is just peeking above the bed, but... the pin is still in my current collection.

Love this pickup. Sitting right on top of the front straight axle... it is just like riding on an amusement ride at a carnival.

My gone but not forgotten.

Clearly a Fiero with a Ferrari F40 rebody kit (and not a real Ferrari).

Over the course of my twenties I owned a '62 Corvette, '69 SS396 L78 Chevelle, '70 Z/28 Camaro, '64 Corvette coupe and '76 limited edition Trans Am (the first with T-tops).

Then the era of big horsepower died and V6 Fieros looked good, so my wife and I owned four Fieros at one time:
yellow '88 GT automatic with leather seats and powered subwoofer (the rarest color with the two rarest options)
white '88 GT 5-speed
black '87 GT 5-speed
red '85 SE V6 automatic (wife's old car)

Those Fieros are all gone now that horsepower has returned, and we currently own the following:
305HP '96 Mustang SVT Cobra mystic (color-shifting paint) 5-speed - 7 miles on odometer
320HP '01 Mustang SVT Cobra mineral grey 5-speed - 55 miles on odometer
540HP '08 Shelby GT500 torch red with black stripes 6-speed - 9 miles on odometer
420HP '13 Mustang GT deep impact blue automatic (wife's current car) - her daily driver
444HP '13 Boss 302 gotta-have-it green 6-speed - 13,600 miles on odometer (driven by me in good weather only)
580HP '13 Camaro ZL1 inferno orange metallic 6-speed - 8 miles on odometer

Yes, all $38,000 dollars worth too. Had I kept it I would have put a LS7 in it for another 20k or so.

It was based on a 1987 SE fiero that had 25,000 miles when I sold it.

Cars like that are fascinating but what's the point? First time it's driven it will lose half its value. All the rubber seals are likely rotted. It belongs in a museum...I cant see any value in a private collection and it can't be enjoyed as a driveable car. I've seen a GNX with 4 miles on the odometer and it just sits on a lift in a private collection. A shame imo.
