Quoted from someotherguy:

Have owned tons of classic GM trucks and cars (mostly 60's stuff) but right now no classics, have a pair of trucks for me and the wife - I bought a 2006 Silverado SS Intimidator edition (Dale Earnhardt package, I call it the Redneckinator); wife got jealous that I had a truck so I picked up another 2006 Silverado SS (in silver birch metallic) for her. My "weekend" ride is a 2006 Chrysler 300 SRT8 that I picked up not long ago with practically no miles (under 10K) to replace another of the exact same car after I sold the old one to a friend. Lots of bang for the buck in that SRT8.
Richard

Nice Silverado's. I just bought the bastard child, an '03 Avalanche Z71. I really like driving with the rear window and midgate down. A jeep truck so to speak. I'm also amazed that for 2003, the amount of tech that was crammed into a truck. All leather, two way adjustable lumbar, moveable pedals, heated seats both sides, dimmable side view mirrors, etc. I have some plans to turbo or supercharge it on the way to 600HP. Right now, I'm changing out the interior to match the red/grey color style of the Ram Rebel. I want to put a full tesla style nav screen in it, but haven't figured out the best route yet.

Quoted from Parzival:

I'm not a huge car guy, but have been looking for something to drive during the summer (my main vehicle is an F150). Any thoughts or suggestions on what I should look for? This just popped up on my FB

If you're looking for a Corvette I would get a C5.
They are roomier, much more comfortable to drive, and don't beat the shit out of you while driving.

The Mustang is painted, cleared and buffed, looks like a black mirror. Now for the Satin black pieces front and back.

Looks bad ass! Is it just a track car or street also.

Thanks, street also but it's a bear to drive on the street. But oh man on a nice smooth road it's pure joy.

Replacing trunk weather stripping.
Would greatly appreciate tips on removal.

Quoted from Fulltilt:

Replacing trunk weather stripping.

Older cars use at least 4 ways to attach the trunk seal.

Adhesive, applied all the way around sealing the rubber to the paint.
The seal can be held in place by a metal channel stamped into the sheet metal, the seal has to squeezed into place.
Or the seal has a metal bead cast into it, it is pushed onto a ridge in the sheet metal. Like around the door jam.
Little plastic pins that push into holes in the sheet metal, the rubber seal will have holes in the bottom for the little plastic pins to be inserted into.

Do you have a new seal? As over the years the one on your car could be an aftermarket 3M product.
From what photos I've seen, it looks like part of the original seal slips over a ridge in the sheet metal, and the majority of it is held in place with adhesive. 3M has a black or yellow trim adhesive. You may need a way to hold the rubber in place until the glue dries. Before installation if the rubber is warmed up, it will be more flexible.

Poat a pic of what you have.

#1159 6 years ago

Yes, it's removing the old stripping and adhesive. I have a replacement but have to get the old nightmare one off!!
Someone had installed incorrect stripping that didn't allow the trunk to close properly.

I cut away some of the old rubber with a razor knife but the remaining is glued hard. I didn't know if I needed to just remove as much as possible and then just soak the remaining with adhesive remover?
Any good removal tool that has less chance to damage the metal?

With out any solvents present have you tried a heat gun?

Other wise pull off as much of the old seal as you can. Then as you state, soak the glued part with an "Adhesive Label Remover solvent". With a small tipped plastic scraper, try to get under the rubber bits and scrape the glue off. This will take a better part of an hour or more. Just be careful that the solvent you are using will not damage your paint, garage floor, trunk interior parts etc. and the be careful of the evaporating fumes of the solvent.

#1162 6 years ago

Great tips, thanks! I didn't think about trying the good old heat gun.

#1163 6 years ago

Hopefully that wasn't applied with contact cement.....

#1164 6 years ago

It feels like contact glue. The heat gun definitely helps remove the large chunks. I hope it will expose the adhesive enough to let solvent go to work.

This is going to take a while!

I would heat it with a heat gun then gently scrape it off with a plastic scraper like in pic. I have removed the glue with enamel reducer (I use ppg dt870)

Some paint loss was inevitable after removing the JB Weld adhesive applied to the old weather stripping.

Any suggestions on what to use to help prevent rust in those areas.
The spots will be covered by the new weather strip so appearance isn't a real issue.

#1168 6 years ago

prep areas ,mask then primer sealer, then mask and repaint matching color.

I am in my third month of owning a new VW Atlas. I am no VW fanboy, but I am pretty impressed with it, especially as a pin hauler. Bang for the buck factor, quiet, premium interior (especially for the price) and very comfortable. Only negative is it could use more power. It has plenty to merge into highway traffic, but being such a large vehicle, it would be nice if it had a little more nuts. I do recommend it though.

#1174 6 years ago

The Atlas looks VERY nice.

67 camaro with a ls1 with custom heads and cam. 450 to the rear wheels in a 3000 lb car. I have a total of 20 miles on it. The problem is that I can’t drive the car anywhere and leave it in a parking lot.

I was close. I'll have the same problem when I get my Mustang back.

#1180 6 years ago

I had the car built for my son. It took so long that I had to give him a truck to drive. Now he doesn’t want to give up the truck. So it is a family car till he decides to take it. I can’t get insurance for him to drive it till he is 25 and the car is too damn fast and squirrely to do much more than recreational driving.

Sounds like you should sell it, he may kill himself if he gets his hands on it.

#1182 6 years ago

It’s a 67 camaro for goodness sakes. We are going to enjoy it as a family and at some point when he wants to take it or when I croak he can take it. For a car that can be stupid fast and jumpy it is easy to handle if you stay off the peddle

Recently swapped on a set of Hellcat-style (actually from a Scat Pack, same exact wheel but the "hyper black" gunmetal type color isn't available on a Hellcat) forged 20x9.5" wheels and 275/40 Pirelli P Zero tires, extremely low mile take-offs from a new Charger.

To go along with them, I installed the 15.4" 2-piece rotors and Brembo 6 piston calipers that also come from a Hellcat. Big brakes! You pretty much couldn't physically fit anything larger inside the hoop of a 20" wheel. Painted the front calipers silver to match the rear calipers on my car and keep it classy; the bright red wasn't gonna cut it.

Pic next to the Challenger taken at a little cruise-in Mopar meet in Galveston a couple weeks ago.

Just bought this classic '94 Mini Mayfair with a whopping 63bhp.

I have a metro turbo engine which will be swapped in after a rebuild which should see a safe 130-140bhp.

It will be fun giving Porsche's and similar a scare at the lights.

I have always wanted to own one of these. Turbo K20 swap with about 400-500HP would suffice for me.

My new spring project. Viper motor swap will be done and possibly boosted

He had so many unicorns in one place, and a pinball machine, that I had to share. What is in the pictures isn’t 1/4 of it. It was mind blowing

Yes, 959s always count.

What the hell, even the F40 counts.

And the 918, Carrerra GT’s (yes, plural), 911’s, GT2, GT3, GT40’s, 488, real Shelby Daytona, Superformance GT40, Superformance Cobra, etc... it was better than most car shows that I’ve been to.

I thought he was going to show me mustangs, camaros, and corvettes. That was not the case. He had a 63 sting ray, but that was on the low end of his collection.

But are they up voting the "roll'n" part or the "hate'n" part?

(Sorry, but I'm personally not a fan of any minivans.)
