Well hurry up, you aint gettin any younger. I bought my 70 Mustang new (I ordered it even, Dec of 69) when I was 17 and still have it. Yup it's 47 years old and better then ever.

I bought my 66 mustang when I was 15 back in 1987. Still have it and it's about to turn 52.

In 87 I had had mine for 17 years already. Yeah I know I'm and old guy.

I wish I had been smart enough to hang on to a few of my cars through the years. My first car at 16 was a '67 Cougar, sky blue. I really took that car for granted.

#805 6 years ago

Oh now that's cool. Is that Hurst comp plus 4 speed shifter?

Yeah hind sight is 20/20 they say. I went through hell though to keep it though.

Have either of these been down to OCMD?? I could swear that I have seen one or both of them at cruise week.

Yea, it's been a while but that's where we would go. It used to be a blast....but the police have absolutely ruined it...well, them and the morons doing 110 down the main drag. A decade ago cops would give you a ticket and tell you to hold onto it in case you got pulled over again. They said as long as they got your money once they were happy. Whole place seemed to take a turn a few years back with a big push for safety. Still seems like quite a few cars show up, so it must not be so bad.

No it's a manual shift automatic with a Hurst ratchet shifter.

Yeah. The main blame as to how it's gotten so bad now is social media, and punk kids who just want to party and have zero interest in cars. H20 has been ruined and so has OCcruisin. H20 used to be an all VW, Audi, Porsche event, now anyone and everyone shows up with any car that they want which completely takes away from what it is supposed to be. For cruisin, it's now full of rookie drivers driving stangs and Camaros that they can't handle and diesel trucks that just want to roll coal all day and do burn outs. I see less and less rods every year and I can't blame them, I'd stay home too if I were one of the cruising veterans because no one wants to deal with that drama

Put your money on the table,

Nah, my RCF goes plenty fast enough for NZ roads.

Those openings were needed so the wide tires would be able to turn, I had to do the same thing on my Mustang.

#829 6 years ago
Quoted from Roostking:

The bumper had to be cut down 3" because it was too tall already. Brackets had to be heavily modified and notched because it still laid out extra hard on the ground. The bumper would flex up and it would get an angled position as it was being wedged between the rest of the truck and the ground. Overtime it settled into that as it's natural position. No need to make a truck that already sat on the ground "appear lower" it couldn't get any lower without a shovel.

I didn't realise it just takes a bent bumper to make the rest of the truck look lower than a snakes belly in a tractor rut !

Next door at the Lexus dealership (same family owns both .. plus pretty much all the other upmarket Marques in NZ) they had the new LC500.

I was neither here/there on the car from the photos, but in the flesh it looked pretty cool. I think the black set it off nicely.

Minitruckers are the hardest workin' guys in the car scene and consistently get 0 respect and laughed at by most. Coming up with new and innovate things and cutting on their rides in ways most Maserati drivers would never even dream of. The donk crowd may have started big rims but it was minitruckers who got 20s put as "stock" rims on premium trucks and SUVs - Denali's, Escalades... part of the reason I got out was frustration with guys saying well it's not stock. The point was to be not stock and truly something original. Not a guy that crashed into the accessories aisle at Pep Boys and spent $400. Not taking at frustrations on rotordave just more a general venting of a former minitrucker...

Not by me!

I was one of the original guys in the import scene here in NZ.

Rotary cars .... RotorDave.

While I was more a "go fast" than a "go low" guy, I respect whatever people want to do to their cars. I know what work goes into custom cars, I've rebuilt a number of RX7s from the shell up.

I've been to the Tokyo Auto Salon and seen the Japanese limo cars slammed to the ground... pretty cool scene over there

The picture of the taco was because you said "slammed Taco". I presume you meant Tacoma? But a slammed taco is pretty funny.

Haha yea. Taco = Tacoma. As I already said, my venting wasnt directed at you. You just happened to open the door for me to drive in.

Funny you bring up the Japanese. Those guys will go over the top with very high quality even the US guys struggled to match. Most of their stuff was another level overall. Always super clean and meticulously customized. Literally down to nuts and bolts and hose clamps would be triple chromed.

Funny, there was a truck behind me for a while on the arterial I take home. He was consistently behind me so no good look, but it looked low. I thought there is a low rider; haven't seen that in a while. He finally caught me and it was a Taco'99-'00 X-cab that had been used hard at work over the years. Funny how what is small then compared to the smallest trucks you can get today. It looked like a mini to me, but I can remember the Datsun's from the 80's.

Those are real. They are stickers placed on smoked headlight covers. Can take them on and off at will.
