Cool thread! Nice to see a lot of us into cycling. I have 4 bikes: A new Cannondale Scapel for mountain biking (orange bike), a Felt Cross bike that I modified to use on the endless miles of gravel roads in SE Michigan (blue bike), and a KHS carbon fiber fat bike for winter riding and other soft, wet, and messy conditions (the black bike with a guy on it that looks suspiciously like me).

The fourth bike is a Trek 5000 carbon fiber road bike that I bought back in 2006. I used it for 4 or 5 seasons and put a lot of road miles on it, and did several organized century (100 mile) rides. However, as 2010 or 2011 approached, it seemed like the amount of distracted and/or careless drivers started to skyrocket, which probably ties in with the increase in cell phone use within vehicles. All my cycling friends started getting hit by vehicles and/or having really close calls (luckily nobody died). That's when I stopped riding paved roads and turned my attention to single track dirt trails and gravel roads (which have a lot less, and slower traffic in general). I probably should sell my road bike, but I hold onto in in hopes of participating in more large organized group rides in the future, as there feels like there's more safety in numbers on the road.

Same here. I basically quit riding on the road around 2014 or 2015 after too many people were getting hit or killed. We had a group riding here in Kzoo several years ago where like 7 or 8 were killed from a guy in a pick-up truck. That pretty much sealed road cycling for me.

Have you ever done the ODRAM? That was one awesome ride in Michigan. Muskegon to Bay City in one day. IIRC, it was right around 150 miles.

Man, sorry about losing those local people due to that guy that hit them in that pick-up truck. I remember that well, and it made me ill and furious. Horrible thing. I'm still upset about it to this day, and I suppose I always will be.

I did not ever participate in the ODRAM. It's something I'd like to do someday, but will I ever? I don't know. 100 miles is pretty tough on me. The best I ever did was 100 miles in 6 hours flat averaging 16.666mph, and that was when I was probably 40 years old. Now I'm 50. I was blown out at the end of that century too, LOL. I would probably surely be slower now, but that's probably a good idea. Pace myself and hope that I could finish those 150 miles in 10 to 12 hours.

Schwinn catalogs are all on line. The Collectable Antique Bicycle Exchange (Cabe) is like pinside. You could post that picture in the right category and start a thread. You will most likely find your answer and hear a story or two about the store. Awesome picture.

Brings back memories. Grew up with Gary Pollack, Large Ray, Mark Eaton and Kevin Jones. We rode together for years. Spent the summer of 1990 touring the Northeast in a van with a trailer and quarter pipe in tow. Good times.

I ride several times per week from long road rides, trails and countryside. My current 3 to get any type of ride done

I bought this Italian made Puch back in 1989 with all the money I had in the bank and more. (And yes, I know Puch is an Austrian company. I guess early bicycles were made in Italy) It has Columbus SLX tubing, fully lugged frame and a Campagnolo seat post! Back then this bike was impressive and super light!
About 15 years ago when everybody in LA was riding a fixie I made it a single speed with a flip flop hub. I saved all the original Shimano 105 components in a box. Of course, now I’m probably too old to ride it as a single speed. I thought about selling it recently but it just looks so cool hanging on the wall. (I know, I know. It should be ridden!)

Diamondback Venom X circa 1999 it along with 3 other bmx bikes were shoved in my parents attic. Sent my dad new tires and tubes and he fixed it up. Pick it up next week.

This was a project last spring. If you have too much time on your hands and some extra hardwood lying around, it's an easy way to kill two months, haha!

This thing is my dream bike. 1984 specialized stump jumper, bi-plane fork, lugged. I added off road spec drops with friction bar end shifters, sprung saddle, 2.3 tires and various bag/ rack set ups.

My girlfriend and I regularly load our bar bags up with beer and food and spend the day exploring dirt roads, trails, and ancient/abandoned class IV right of ways. The thing is a mountain goat and can get up or down just about anything I’m willing to try.

I actually found the bike while playing pinball. It was tucked between games in a basement that houses an amazing pinball collection. It was the collector’s father’s, original owner and hardly ridden. I’ve given it more adventure in the past two years than it’d had in its entire previous 30.

There was nothing better as a kid, than walking through a Schwinn store...remember that smell?

For whatever reason, my dad decided he wanted to build a tandem. He designed and built a frame fixture, bought a bunch of chrome-moly tubing, got his tanks filled and went at it. This is the end result.
