Forgot this thread existed! I still have my 75 gal. I've been off and on about tank maintenance , going for a several month stretch at one point of no water changes but everyone is healthy, and having it heavily planted was key.
I'll have to snap a pic when I have a chance and compare it to my initial post.
Quoted from finman2000:Do you breed Rainbows?
I don't, but I bought from a local breeder many years ago. He no longer breeds anymore, I don't think, and last I checked, he sold his breeding line to another local guy. I'd have to (really) dig to find the info.
Quoted from NoQuarters:Very nice tank of Rainbows ! Tank looks great.
Thank you! I appreciate the appreciation for Rainbows!
I'll try to get some closer pics of them. They are probably around 6 or 7 years old now. I also have a few roselines and clown loaches in there and a handful of bushynose plecs, and a few remaining white cloud minnows.
If anyone has any suggestions for hardy foreground plants, let me know! I've tried a smattering of different kinds and they all have died off over time. I do very infrequent water changes. 1x a month or less if I'm being honest.
Quoted from ScubaScott:Tank looks awsome with all the natural rock and wood. Your back plants look like they're thriving. My luck with plants so far are Anubis, which looks like you have 1 in the front center. That's the 1 species that is thriving for me. I don't have CO2, just add a liquid fert about every week. It creeps and likes to attach to wood and rock. It'll fill your mid section nice. After it creeps along, I cut it and use those in other locations. Tie it on to the wood with a black thread or fishing line. It'll take root.
Thanks! I've definitely tried several different varieties of Anubias ssp. over the years. They last a while but all eventually succumbed to algae covering the leaves. I may have to try them again since there was a period of time where I completely neglect the tank. Was having a rough year or two and didn't feel motivated at all. Almost got rid of the tank honestly.
The background plant is cryptocoryne balansae and have pretty much made the entire tank its home I have to pull it every 4-6 weeks because it grows so well.
Quoted from yfz450:My Cichlid Tank that I just set up. My buddy breeds them. Have a few young Taiwan Reefs, Lemon, Albino and Brichardi Cichlid’s. [quoted image]
Looks like you've got some anubias plants in there. Nice! I don't know much about cichlids, but I know they like to eat plants. Not sure if anubias are one of the varieties. I always see hardscaped cich tanks.
Quoted from guitarded:I have fully caught the Aquarium Bug, again. Haven't kept fish since the early 90s...but I am planning on putting a 5-6 foot Cichlid Tank in this Summer.
Starting up with some small tanks to feed the jones and prepare for the big tank later this year. I like having at least one fully cycled 10-20 gallon up and running before I start a big tank. So, I have set up a small community tank this week to get the ball rolling.
Always nice giving a Beta a place to stretch out while I quick cycle. [quoted image]
Tbh, this thread kinda got me back onto it. I just bought $50 worth of buce, and have another $50 on a pre-order for a few buce pink ladies. I haven't bought anything other than food for the last 7 yrs lol.
