What games directly reference at least one other pins with either visuals or sounds. Do not list stock sounds used across multiple games.

The most obvious is the Pinbot / Bride of Pinbot / Jack*Bot series. Then of course, Pinbot shows up in Taxi as a character and objective.

In Monster Bash, isn't "It's not plugged in yet" callout the same from TAF?

What are some of your favorite 'cameos' from other games?

    #2 2 years ago

    Junkyard's Time Machine,
    Twilight Zone's Fast Lock

    #3 2 years ago
    Quoted from BrewinBombers:

In Monster Bash, isn't "It's not plugged in yet" callout the same from TAF?

Isn't that same line used in RBION? "It's not plugged in yet, mon." Not sure if it's a reference though.

    Every DMD Data East game
Hill Valley comes up on the map of HS2
Party Zone has many references to the older party games.

Gottlieb Cue Ball Wizard has a Cactus Jack cameo in a video mode. "Surprise Tenderfoot!"

Johnny mnemonic gives you a frenzy where Rudy from fun house talks.

Party Zone has all the guys from Elvira on the glass. It plays what would become Fish Tales music and I think Getaway sound effects
. It's end of game after match I was told plays Bad Cats music.

    #10 2 years ago

Twilight Zone quick multi ball references all Pat Lawlor previous games

    #11 2 years ago

Roadshow references whirlwind the storm is coming return to your home and Earthshaker as there is a earthquake mode in Roadshow TZ does all the pat lawlor games from banzai run to addam's family for fast lock

    #12 2 years ago

I believe Scared Stiff sometimes plays a sound from Tales of the Arabian Nights at the end of a game, when it's doing the free game match.

Move your car from CFTBL comes up in a couple of other wms/bally pinballs as well

    #15 2 years ago

    Oh, TZ also -
Has Rudy to tell you to "Stop messing with the clock!" if you're goos at Clock Chaos, and
has Rod Serling say, 'There, see what Greed will get you?' when you're really good at Greed.

    #16 2 years ago

Taxi has Pinbot and F-14 links in it...

    #17 2 years ago

Medieval Madness space ship saucer on the back glass referencing Attack From Mars. Cows on the back glass and animations as well.

    #18 2 years ago
    Quoted from gypsycat:

Move your car from CFTBL comes up in a couple of other wms/bally pinballs as well

In SS for sure, and I believe ToM as well

    #19 2 years ago

Junk Yard us full of references - TAF, AFM and CFTBL in the Time Machine, Who Dunnit, Mousin Around and possibly Doctor Who and TOTAN in the art and sound references to IJ, among others.

It was originally concieved as a game made up of "leftover" ramps and devices from other games and, while the physical game is all original, they kept a lot of the references to the old games.

    #20 2 years ago

Scared Stiff actually plays random quotes from several other wpc games during the match sequence. "Tell me more about...." Then of course there is Junkyard, which references other games all over the place.

    Quoted from gypsycat:

Move your car from CFTBL comes up in a couple of other wms/bally pinballs as well

For example in Theatre of Magic after hitting the trunk three times during Trunk Escape.

Bally Champ. Includes Mini Zag on the backglass and the playfield plastics. Even has correct coin doors as Champ transitioned to the new Stainless Steel version.

    #23 2 years ago

Not sure if it fully counts but in the "continued" software for Cactus Canyon there is a super skill shot that is a hand holding up a lighter. If you hit it, the Tenacious D song "tribute" starts, Dmd flashes graffics from mm, ss, taf, afm, mb. Then you get a cousin it mode.
    It is fantastic.

Pat Lawlor games always have fun references, with the most mysterious one being "hand on button." On Whirlwind's playfield, there's a street sign that says "Visit the Fault" referencing Earthshaker (upper left-hand corner).

    ES:WW.jpg

Roadshow, as an homage to Whirlwind's "Storm Blasters: Anytime... Anywhere" has "Road Busters: Anytime... Anywhere."

    Screen Shot 2017-07-03 at 1.06.53 PM (resized).png
    Screen Shot 2017-07-03 at 1.07.36 PM (resized).png

I know Twilight Zone's radio plays tunes and callouts from games like Earthshaker and Whirlwind as well; and as mentioned before, Junk Yard has modes like "The Mamushka" "Move Your Car!" "Saucer Attack" and "Payback Time" from TAF, CftBL, AFM, and T2 respectively.

Taxi has Pinbot as a pickup.

Oh! And a more obscure reference is that Gottlieb's Lights, Camera, Action has Bone Buster characters in the inlanes (the last 'official' game Gottlieb made before switching to System 3).

IJ - "The Fish of Tales"

    #26 2 years ago

BBH references attack from mars funny enough.

    #27 2 years ago

There are times I'm playing on location and certain sound effects sound the same as on other games. Not really a reference but like a Pavlonian response that psychs me out. I think Jack Bot has some of The Shadow's sounds or vice versa?

LOTR jackpots are similar or the same as IJ if I'm not mistaken with John Rhys Davies calling them out. I only played IJ once or twice so someone else can confirm that.

    #28 2 years ago

Also there was a reference called out during the last PAPA finals in World Poker Tour with Spin a Card

    #29 2 years ago

I thought the fish in sopranos makes references to Fish Tales and T2.

    #30 2 years ago
    Quoted from KozMckPinball:

Medieval Madness space ship saucer on the back glass referencing Attack From Mars. Cows on the back glass and animations as well.

MM also has what looks like the crocodile guard creature from Catacomb swinging in the moot. Very cool old call back Easter egg there.

    #31 2 years ago

TZ when you buy the extra-ball: TAF's "Greeeeed..."

    #32 2 years ago

On EMside, Gottliebs "Hi Dolly" wins hands down. It has references to 7 previous Gottlieb pins,.

1957 Falstaff; 1960 Texan; 1961 Egg Head; 1963 Gaucho; 1963 Square Head; 1964 Happy Clown; and 1964 Ship Mates.

Ghostbusters has the Star Gazer in the firehouse.

Hurricane has references to both Comet and Cyclone in it. The Comet ride is actually *in* Hurricane.

What game is it though? Looks generic to me.

    #37 2 years ago

Police Force has Taxi on the backglass and Lights, Camera, Action has Bonebusters skeletons on the playfield

    #38 2 years ago

Who could forget the Addams Family plastic on Vector (11 years before TAF was released) ?

    #39 2 years ago

Pinbot is on the play field of Comet , and Lethal Weapon 3 references Terminator 2 by being a carbon copy of the play field :p

    #40 2 years ago

The pinball shown on the backglass of Gottlieb Lariat can be identified as a specific game. The parallel replay model, Wild Wild West, does not have that detail.
