PinRestore will be closing before the end of this year. We are retiring!

We are not interested in selling the business or the domain name.

There will be no discounts and no re-stocking of items that sell out. All sales will be final.

Thank you for your support these last 16 years.

    Scot and Debbie.

    Quoted from seshpilot:

Curious, was this a full-time business for you guys?

No, it has always been a side gig. I started it in 2005 and my wife Debbie took over the fulfillment side in 2007.

Just tried placing order (using two different browsers, I get a paypal error message)[quoted image]

Whatever you were trying to order is out of stock.

We have lost the ability to update the PinRestore website. The only way we can stop orders for things we are sold out of is to kill the PayPal button.

Yet another reason we are retiring.

Thanks for all you've done for the hobby, Scot & Debbie! Much happiness and good health to both of you in your retirement. I just ordered ground braid. Then forgot rivets and ordered them. Then saw I paid $42 in shipping for the two shipments.

    About riveting tools:

I will continue making dies and punches until we close. That being said, I must limit each customer to one set of short dies, one set of long dies, and one rollover punch. I have some arthritis in my hands and the hours of lathe work it takes to make a batch of dies leaves me pretty sore.

    Scot

    #36 9 months ago

    Stuff we have lots of:

There are some hardware items that we buy by the case. We have lots of these items and will gladly throw in a bunch of extras when you order them.

    SEMS Screws:
    6-32 x 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4"

    8-32 x 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4"

    10-32 x 3/8", 1/2"

    Hex head screws:
    Zinc 3/8", 5/8"
    Extra long 8-32 x 3"

    Wood screw:
    8 x 1-1/2"

    Black Carriage Bolts:
    1"

    E-clips:
    5/32", 3/16", 5/16", 3/8"

    Debbie will hook you up!

    Scot

    #39 9 months ago
    Quoted from beelzeboob:

Even though I've got your riveter and both sets of dies, now you have me thinking I need to get a rollover punch as well. Every time you post, I feel like I need to buy something else. This is fear of missing out on a whole new level...

If you have rivet dies, the die holding punch will work as well.

    Scot

    #40 9 months ago

    Thanks to all of you!

The response has been overwhelming. We are already out of rivet dies so some orders may be delayed a week or so.

Excuse me, I have to go cut some steel...

I did notice the Instant Gun Blue is out of stock. Will this one work the same way? amazon.com link »
I'm guessing it would but my trust in products from Amazon has dropped significantly.

That stuff looks a bit janky to me. Van's has been in business for decades. I'd just get it from them:

    Quoted from Isochronic_Frost:

Excuse me for being a noob but if I want to start riveting new faces on drop targets and repairing metal guides that have broken loose what would you recommend I get?
I’ve been meaning to buy one from you guys for a while and it seems to be now or never!
What’s the “restorers essentials” pack? My collection ranges from the 60s to modern

Start with the Master Rivet Kit. With that you can hand-fit different size rivets until you get the ~1/16" protrusion needed for a good crimp.

Then you can get by with a Rivet Rollover Punch if you are VERY careful. The first time I broke an unobtanium plastic by riveting it with a punch was when I decided to make a press.

An upgrade from the punch is the Rivet Press. If you have access to a drill press you can probably build your own with an arbor press from Harbor Fright. The trickiest operation in making a press is drilling a 3/16" hole in the end of the press ram. I do them on my lathe with a 4 jaw chuck. On a drill press you need to use a drill press vise and a square to be sure the ram is perpendicular to the table. Perpendicular is very important because the rivet die shoulder needs to sit flush with the end of the ram. The uneven forces at play from setting rivets with the die sticking out at an angle can break the mounting peg off the die.

If this seems excessive, I'm still building them this month and maybe next.

An upgrade for your press would be the Extra Long Rivet Dies. These allow you to replace one of the press dies with its XL counterpart. That will get you into most tight spots like on the flange of a plastic ramp.

    Lastly, you could add a Die Holding Punch to turn your press dies into Rollover Punches for those jobs where the press just won't fit. Another add-on would be the rivets not included in the Master Rivet Kit;
1/8" This shortest size is usually only needed on metal-to-metal rivet jobs.
    1/2" (steel) For switch stacks
    9/16" (steel) For switch stacks

    Hope That Helps,

    Scot

I recall you stocking hard to find pinball wires for basically every color combination that exists. Do you still have those? I would love to get some kind of potpourri of wires for future projects.

You may recall that, but I don't.

    We never sold electrical wire.

Also.... I am now out of bare wire. And just a note, we had to limit the ground braid to just one roll per customer. If you ordered more I will refund for the extra when I refund for the excess shipping.

That's all for now, I think.

    Debbie

    #61 9 months ago

Here we go again... Bear with me

I am not out of the Rt angle LED mounts as mentioned above.

But I am now out of the 10-32 KEP nuts.

    Hey everybody,
Scot just got a batch of dies finished today so I will start shipping tomorrow for those of you who ordered dies. I ran out of some of the rivets that go into the master kit so if you also ordered a kit it will be delayed a few days until I get my rivets in. Since everyone wants a roll of ground braid we decided to order more of that and I am waiting for that to come in as well. We are still limiting to 1 roll per customer. Once I have everything for your orders I will get them out. Again, thanks a bunch for your support and for your patience.

    Debbie

    #65 9 months ago

    New update:

I have over 25 orders ready to go just waiting on ground braid and/or rivets for the rivet kit. Both should be here early this week and then all of those orders will be shipped. If you also ordered a rivet press that might take a few more days as Scot needs to make each one. Again, I appreciate your patience. Believe me, I am tired of walking around 25 boxes on the floor!

    Quoted from Lhyrgoif:

I'm wondering the same. Considering buying a 1 ton press only because it has a bigger gap (theoretically allowing better accessibility when riveting) compared to the half ton variant but it weights quite a lot. If the 0.5 ton press is more than enough for riveting I might get the smaller press for less hassle moving it around.
    Any input on this?

There is a slight increase in throat depth and height with the 1 ton. It's about 35% larger, physically, than the 1/2 ton. Even though the weight is double, the casting gets thicker everywhere so the size gain is smaller.

Well shit, that wasn't very heartfelt was it? Let me try again.

Hey folks. The end is here and this will be my last post. Yea!!!

A huge thank you to every one of you that supported us through the years and kept us going for so long. We couldn't have done it without you.

A gigantic thank you to Bryan Kelly for having our backs when someone wasn't quite kind. Bryan, have your driveway cleaned out. You will be getting a BIG delivery soon.

Unfortunately there is one person we will not thank. After placing over a $500.00 order he then put in a Paypal dispute that he didn't receive it, with no contact with us what so ever. PO shows it was delivered within 180 yards of his address. An email to us first so we could check into it would have been nice, Nick Formento. Sellers beware.

And with that I will say....

    OK I lied. I'm back.

Just an update that Nick withdrew his Paypal dispute today. Must have "found" his package after all so no loss on our part. I just wanted to warn our fellow sellers to be aware.

    Off to retirementville.

    Happy days are here again................
