Quoted from JodyG:Pat's and Geno's are tourist traps...lots of better places in Philly, like Jim's.
Well we were being tourists, so it was perfect for us.
I agree Jim's is better, but they are closed due to a fire earlier this year.

I like Steve’s prince of steak’s
Saturday Night after loading truck we hit local bar on 17th street in walking distance I had a ( what they called a cheese steak.) Cheese steak.
It was awful but I ate it as we were starving(9:30pm ish) the beer was ok though!
Hopefully this post will be well received. Objectively, did any of you guys come down with COVID after the Allentown show? Now that the WHO and CDC are indicating the pandemic is over, I'm just wondering if any of you guys became sick afterwards. I know it isn't scientific, just curious to hear what the experience was.

No COVID here, but I'm noticing a pattern in discomfort in people who attended the Allentown Pinball show, especially in those that purchased, sold, or otherwise brought games at the show. Too many people I know who went have experienced great discomfort in their back and tiredness over the past few days. Maybe back pain is a new COVID symptom, maybe its the symptom of a good show. I personally am experiencing severe symptoms.

Took me a week to sleep off Allentown but we were super busy with tournament and local news spots, 7 am arrival every day. And we raged pretty hard on Saturday night to celebrate it all going well.

I picked up some con crud of some sort...mildly sick last Thursday and peaking on Saturday. I did not bother with a covid test, as it has been more of an inconvenience more than being actually sick.

haha. Didn't expect that one.

Yeah, sorry about that dude. I meant to call you.
I am healthy as much as I was before the show. I am still limping after surgery to screw 3 canulated screws into my leg bone ball after my fall in January. Word to the wise. don't get old and fall down on something sharp like a curb or concrete stairs....
I was able to get around the show for 2 days and no worse for wear. Other than the longish 4 hour drive and a depleted bank account.
This thread is almost getting more action post-show than I did my first year of college.
Well, if you add up the words in Skip’s last post, that’s more close.
I was worried about Covid a little bit as I had a flight to Denmark the next day and didn't want to end up sick over there. But all good. I was also afraid of pink eye from all the crop dusting but I ended up ok.
In regards to the crop dusting, I was only there Fri but didn't bump into any! Pinball show miracle for sure. I'm sure there was some, but I'm chalking this year up as the best smelling to date.

No crop dusters at the show on Fri and we only crossed paths with one person who smelled like a Wookiee. I actually brought earplugs this year but didn’t need to use them. I think that was related to the large overhead doors being fully open and letting some noise escape. One of my favorite things to do each year is attending this show!

O, there was crop dusting on Friday...I know, as I have a few GI diseases and was in FL the week prior (System failure)...I'm, sorry but I couldn't get outside for every high pressure release. I'm a duster, and I apologize to anyone within 100' of discharge.
Quoted from NicoVolta:Yep, that's usually it. The bare minimum. Like getting a car wash and interior vacuum... nevermind the condition of the fluids, brakes, electrical, etc.
"Shopped" is an antiquated term nowadays, primarily used by older techs/retailers. A barely-working beat up game can be "shopped", but a "nice and fully working" game is always better!
thanks guys theres so much to learn and reading your messages i'm way behind in what i should know.

Quoted from Black_Knight:Finally decompressed and unloaded from our 2,000+ mile trip from ATL to Allentown and several points "along the way." My wife and navigator was a good sport about he trip and even played in the women's tournament.
We stopped at the Roanoke Pinball Museum on the way up. Great machines, including a Defender which I still don't know the rules for. Thanks to Nick spending time with us at the show! NicoVolta
Had to make a run to Denver PA to pick up some auction winnings, including a 1939 Evans bowler. I delivered 2 games to Allentown but loaded up a total of 10 machines for the drive back. The deals kept me busy much of Friday, but I had plenty of time to qualify poorly in the tournament!
Saturday was great for just walking the free play area and meeting great people.
Sunday it was off to Philly for some Cheesesteaks. We sampled both Pat's and Geno's but won't reveal which we liked better so as not to start an argument here.
On the way to DC we 'swung over' to Frederick MD to visit Spinners and their great line up. The space is huge and the staff was great.
Spent the night in DC and I left my wife there for a meeting that day then to fly back. Meanwhile I drove over in Charlottesville to see the new Decades Arcade space that just opened the weekend before. Paul and Lindsey did a great job moving into their unique space in the old downtown area. pookycade
From there I headed to Johnson City TN to pick up the last machine and turned towards home. The funny part is my wife's flight was delayed and I beat her home Monday night.
We really enjoyed the show. I like the pinball only focus and the number of vendors outnumber those down here in the south.
If anyone knows who owns the 10th inning that was on the floor, please let me know.[quoted image]
Hey Mark, thanks again for buying the Buttons machine. It was a pleasure meeting you and I am glad the machine is in the right hands. Please keep in touch if/when you get it fully working!
More pinfest goodness. I have a confession. I flipped something I bought at pinfest. You know how the flea market is filled with all sorts of random crap with nothing to do with pinball in it? You wonder... "who would buy this crap?" I always look through those as I love digging for gold and I found this little guy for $1 mixed in with the arcade industry magazines... My ebay listing just wrapped up... for $510. That almost covers the Vulcan I brought home!

With the great games you consistently put in freeplay, you deserve such a kickback. Congratulations!

After seeing the cheese-eater's result, I searched ebay's sold listings and saw one that fetched $42K (ebay.com link: itm) after 108 bids! If you are selling I'd look at what separated his from the others that sold for less (his video probably helped garner bids) and/or what separated his from this one that sold for nearly 100x what he scored (protected and professionally graded to be in excellent condition, I'd guess).

These have gone for over $100,000, but outside ebay.
Believe me, I've done a ton of research into this thing over the past week. I actually put together a longer youtube video for my listing but ebay wouldn't let me link it.
Here is a video on the one that sold for $108,000
(if you believe it).
The issue with mine is while it looked unread, there were a couple of very small rips on the back page. Without those mine would have sold for thousands based off of ebay sales, ungraded or not. I'm not an expert on comics, but I asked the guy at my kids comic book shop for an informal grading and he put it at a 5 or 6 at best. I could have sent mine off to be graded but it would have taken forever and I don't know that it would have increased the price. The 108k copy was graded at a 9.8, the highest known in existence. The 40k one was graded at a 9.4. There is a grading company (CGC) that grades this stuff and seems to be the industry standard. My kids comic book shop is filled with these comic books in graded "slabs" in-cased in plastic so you can't read them.
There are a couple of things pushing the price up on this particular magazine. For those of you who don't know, this was the first issue of Nintendo Power magazine, really the first video game magazine of its type and is highly collectable. The "centerfold" in this copy is the map of the original legend of Zelda's second quest. Most kids tore their copy out but mine is still there. Most were dog eared by kids, mine is not. Zelda is "in vogue" right now with a hotly anticipated sequel being released last week. That 108k auction closed a few weeks ago. So, combined together that rocketed the value of my copy. I could have sent it off for grading but every one and their mom with a copy of this magazine is sending theirs off for grading right now and a few months from now when the grading results come back I expect the market to get flooded and prices to come down on these.
I personally didn't know how big of a score this was when I got it. I just recognized the cover from some youtube videos and wanted to flip through it. Once I read it and saw the prices it was going for well...
Here is a full copy in case you want to flip through one. https://archive.org/details/NintendoPower1988-2004/Nintendo%20Power%20Issue%20001%20%28July-August%201988%29/

My favorite item from the 2022 show. I am a vendor and was selling multicade arcade games. I always have kids stop by to try them out while parents are wandering about and checking out the new line up from Coin Taker. Although these are young children and they are not going to purchase my games I always take time to show them how to start a game or change to another. One young girl was there for awhile and when leaving she wanted to thank me somehow and gave me this. I did not want to take it, but she insisted and wanted me to have it. She appreciated that I was willing to take time with her so she could play. Now it is something I will keep. Plus this is from The Pinball Gallery in Malvern, PA. One of the best places to play pinball in the PA area. See everybody in 2023.
Anyone know if there's any info floating around pinside about the custom Sinbad that was at the show? (The one with a LCD screen)
Curious how it was done, what boards were used etc.
Thanks!
Quoted from Williampinball:Has anyone heard the dates for Pinfest 2024 ,is it May 3th and 4 th ? Thanks
