I'm just curious....Has anyone read the comments on TripAdvisor regarding the Ramada? Sounds like a sh#t hole....All set..

Comfort is out, Holiday Inn Express still decent?

#246 6 years ago
Quoted from Lermods:

We stayed at Ramada for one night last year and had no issues. It's not a 5 star hotel and for the few hours we were there, it was fine.

I see "Bedbugs"...And, Yea.. all set.. The "people we're smashing their heads into our window" comment was interesting.

#260 6 years ago
Quoted from Mike_M:

Come stay at the Renaissance with me; we’ll have champagne and caviar while we play a gold plated TNA with crystal balls in the club lounge before slipping into 1200 thread count sheets for the night. *
*None of this is actually happpening nor am I stay at the Renaissance.

I know your sarcasm is strong, but I just checked that joint out...Wow, looks awesome... looks much better than a hotel I just stayed in for alot more than they are charging per night. If I was going with the family I'd probably try them this time, but since I'll be going with a buddy, and may have walked face first into the sliding doors at the Holiday Inn at 3am one year (need room key to open them after a certain hour) and you could probably shove me in the trunk of a car after a day of drinking and told me I slept at the Ritz....I'm guessing Holiday Inn or Wingate will be my bedbug free floor to pass out on

#264 6 years ago
Quoted from Mike_M:

Although I'm not staying there this year I stayed there for the last two years and it is quite nice and is convenient to the fairgrounds. For a weekend stay over PinFest pretty much any larger company or gov rate will fetch you a nice room for $109/night. I practically live out of Marriotts for work so I usually stay on points. I'm expecting to have a trailer this year which is the only reason I'm not staying there again. (The Renaissance is downtown so it's garage parking only.)
As far as stumbling back to the room at 3AM there are a number of great restaurants/bars/microbreweries within a 2-3 block radius.

O...not sarcasm(Well not all lol)..I apologise Crap, now I have to think about it... Walking distance quality establishments are a definite plus...

Warning for the "I'm offended by seeing another hotel post" people, scroll on....

So, guys that have stayed at the Renaissance...is self parking really a sh#t show like the reviews say? Or is it fine if your not a complainer.... Also, what does the parking garage charge?
Thanks

#310 6 years ago

Disclaimer, another hotel post:

Well for some reason the rate jumped $50 on the Renaissance since yesterday, glad I already booked it.

#314 6 years ago
Quoted from 1974DeltaQueen:

I locked in my rate in November. Stop by again I’ll have a brownie if your daughter wants one .

Excellent brownies btw, Thank You. Will be unleashed this year, debauchery will ensue! I shouldn't be allowed out without supervision (Just my buddy and I this year)

Quoted from yzfguy:

I am against hotel posts.

Hotel free zone for those affected by frequent Hotel posts... Enjoy

#322 6 years ago

Curious, will Color Dmd be a vendor and if so, is there a show discount? I know I'd save the shipping, but if it was also say 10% off or something...after a few beers I'd be walking away with another one.

#325 6 years ago

Why, I asked in this appropriate thread...and received an answer?
Couldn't remember if they did shows or not, thank you rmarket...

#337 6 years ago
Quoted from pinden007:

Can I buy some kind of pinball lift at this show for moving pins around in my basement?

Just go to Harbor Freight...Love mine

#343 6 years ago
Quoted from yzfguy:

So, there are hotels?

Bedbug joints and non-bedbug joints...Yup..

We have a pool and a pond...A pond would probably be better for you...

#344 6 years ago
Quoted from 1974DeltaQueen:

Yes and they are encouraging guest reviews on the other Allentown Thread ! LOL

I thought this was the other thread? There is a third?

#346 6 years ago
Quoted from yzfguy:

What makes ya think I'd prefer a pond?

Caddy shack quote....Sry, forgot the "" (Figured everyone on the planet saw the movie, my apologies)

#355 6 years ago
Quoted from rmarket:

They usually don't do the shows as a vendor.

Guess they do do shows as a vendor.....

Just can’t get enough hotel talk!
What was the hotel that had the hookers hopscotching room to room all night long?

#595 5 years ago

So...are the high class hookers at the Renaissance? BBB in the lobby I heard....

For anyone who's stayed there, park in the garage then walk outside to main entrance? Or park and figure the way in through the maze I've read about?

I didn't notice the toothless wonder in the golf cart last year... Enjoying retirement, or did I miss him?

Quoted from djreddog:

Do you want to party and play even more pinball after Friday’s show? If yes, the Ramada.
Do you want to have a peaceful and uneventful night? Choose any other hotel.

Hope your getting a kickback from Ramada....You must have mentioned it 612 times in the last few months...

#673 5 years ago
Quoted from 1974DeltaQueen:

Wert’s cafe is awesome it’s a few blocks from the back gate. Great food ! As bad as that pizza is inside the door , the snack bar pizza is even more challenging to consume . I’m not knocking it because they have every right to provide quick easy food for patrons. I just prefer a more tasty and palatable version
I had some sour blackberries and some Peanut butter cheesecake that had an aftertaste that required a 2 liter bottle of Lavoris to remove the taste from my mouth. ALWAYS ask to sample first. Bottom line is that 99 % of the Farmers market food is absolutely delicious.

I will knock the snack bar at the show to save others from instant colon cleanse....AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I made the mistake of grabbing a liquid cheeseburger there a few years ago, holy hell that was a bad, grade Q meat idea....Felt like death shortly after consumption of said "burger", it was before I knew about the heavenly goodness just across the way.

Quoted from bgwilly31:

Is there a curfew on this ?
Also are there any good actual bars close by?

This is why I chose The Renaissance...four or five bars, Brewpubs, etc within walking distance....So don't have to worry about driving

I'm curious, who "screwed the pooch", or what happened to stop it?....I remember when they didn't care if people we're drinking outside, everyone had grills set up etc, was a fun escape from inside for a bit when the weather was nice. Then one year, BAM, inbreed on a golf cart with a Vendetta, dry campus....

#768 5 years ago

Yes, I understand common sense...but remember when it was out in the open with no issues?

#770 5 years ago
Quoted from poppapin:

Probably but I'm not certain, it's probably a fairgrounds policy of no alcohol on premises.

Yes it is....but wasn't enforced

#785 5 years ago
Quoted from djreddog:

We will have more alcohol at the Ramada. skyemont got us covered like Saran Wrap.

That's good, after reading the TripAdvisor reviews, wrapping yourself in Saran Wrap is an excellent plan....

#826 5 years ago

According to Google maps, it only showed construction issues for me on 95 in CT and then on 287, showed nothing on 87... weird...

#829 5 years ago
Quoted from yzfguy:

I see we have shifted from a hotel thread to a waze thread.

Well, it is helpful to know if it's going to be a 5+hr drive or a 4+hr drive, along with am I getting scabies or violated by homeless (most likely both) while staying at X? How about a Farmers market thread? We need to fill our gullets.....Bars within walking distance thread? Tavern on Liberty is cool, but you will leave smelling like an ashtray (I will suck it up)....Clean bathroom thread would be helpful, ones at the show made make me gag...feel bad for the guy "working" in there... Sry, carry on

#830 5 years ago
Quoted from eabundy:

next will be bathroom thread.. followed by gas masks are needed thread.

This!!!!!

Quoted from Jaymach1:

Hey guys, just a heads up. Was late booking my room this year and decided to give the "name your own price" feature a whirl on priceline. I got the Renaissance by Marriott for $90, not far from the show. Looks like a nice place and a great deal.

Dam, good deal! I paid $186 two queen beds

#887 5 years ago
Quoted from djreddog:

So need feedback from people coming to the party room.
Would everyone be OK with 2 BSD’s?

Depends, do they bring their own whips and flogging equipment?

#944 5 years ago

Soooo....No offense, but what idiots bought the garbage pins in the back corner of the flea market? $1k for the spray painted, crap pf High Speed??? The beat to hell Jokerz with the pure rust legs, blown out everything...$800.....They all looked like that came from an abandoned building...Crazy these days...That HS tho, lol Really?

#977 5 years ago

Nice

#987 5 years ago
Quoted from too-many-pins:

That "idiot" is my neighbor at the flea market and he sold EVERY machine he had before closing yesterday (a full day before the end of the show) so I guess his prices were not as bad as you might think. Maybe a few 'buyers" were "idiots" for paying what they did for the machines they bought (I don't know what anyone actually paid for machines & that is really none of my business anyway) but calling a seller an "idiot" for bring pinball machines to a pinball show really isn't necessary.
The way I see things is he brought a bunch of neglected machines to a show hoping someone would "save them". Then he put prices on those machines hoping to sell them. Once the show started it was up to the buyers to decide what each machine was worth - it has nothing to do with asking price it is all about selling price & his prices must have been OK to sell EVERY MACHINE!
Do I think prices on machines have gotten INSANE lately - yes I do. But calling a seller an IDIOT for getting as much as possible for what he is selling isn't the seller being an idiot - it is a seller being a smart business man!

Never called the seller an idiot (Try reading that again).....It's just crazy what you can get for a turd at a show...

#1011 5 years ago

Great Show, excellent food from Farmers market (Breakfast was awesome this am), Fegleys was great as was the hotel (Renaissance)...Drive home blew, but thank you Waze for saving us from that rt78 standstill! Only negative, bar tenders at Benjamin's... And to the people responsible for all the empty beer cans left around, there were trash cans everywhere, don't be so ignorant, security wasn't busting balls this year, don't ruin it...

#1197 5 years ago

To who ever bought this slot, you got a screaming deal! I absolutely hate slots, and swore to myself unless it's from the 30's/40's, I won't buy it.(I have had a few hundred slots come through my hands, I don't even want to look at the things anymore)...But with all the insane prices I saw on things at the show, that was an awesome price. I actually contemplated it a few times, as my father enjoyed the exact same machine at Mohegan Sun. When you see people asking $600 for a $25 S+, that thing was a steal. Props to the seller!

I'll get this back on track. Anybody know any good hotels to stay at?
It was a good show, and Friday was definitely busier than Saturday. I can't list everyone I ran into, a ton of Pinsiders this year. Good to meet a few of you that I've never met in person before. And thanks to everyone who checked out the Vampire and posted comments about it. Much appreciated.

Heard the Ramada had a petting zoo....Guess the "more of a shelter than a hotel" comment from TripAdvisor was on point, lol...

#1215 5 years ago
Quoted from Chnillapoil:

Next year will be AirBnB

Sorry, another hotel post, but the Renaissance was awesome. ..Very modern, clean, Everything was perfect... parking was free. Walked to Fegleys for an awesome dinner/beers....then to Benjamin's across from hotel for very nice outside bar, with blowjob bartenders (they didn't ruin it for us)....It's not just the show like some mention ("I don't know why all the hotel talk, after-party talk, bar talk etc") it's about the total Pinfest experience! I'm not local, so it's ten hrs of Driving (total) I'm going to hang out with good people, and have fun on my mini-escape from life.... Definitely enjoyed my hang time with the NE crew!

#1389 5 years ago
Quoted from too-many-pins:

No "bitching" just saying taking a dozen or more game plus parts & other stuff to a show isn't as easy as some people think. Moving a couple games is no big deal but when you start moving 8 or 10 it kind of takes a toll on you. I have worked hard pretty much every day and have since I was in my teens. I actually love working hard and enjoy life everyday so no complaining from me - just stating facts!
What I don't enjoy is reading post about stuff like how Ivan doesn't care about his vendors or when someone calls my neighbor at the flea market an "idiot" for bringing "a bunch of neglected machines" to the flea market for sale. Some people just don't seem to "get it".
In any event I thought 2018 Pinfest was the best ever and just hope Ivan & his crew keep up the great work in the future. Sadly the outdoor flea market just doesn't seem to work at Allentown anymore so maybe it is time to just give up on that idea for a while? Otherwise 2018 seemed very good for everyone involved. It was nice to see more machines in freeplay Saturday & machines staying later on Saturday, it was great to see the huge crowd Friday even though crowd seemed smaller than usual Saturday (likely because of the nice weather).
As far as the "after party" - who could have seen issues coming with that! Better luck next year!

Ok, once again... Reread my post! You obviously didn't. So since you brought this up again, Let me repeat, yet again...I never called the seller, your "neighbor" an idiot. Your "neighbor" was smart, and I'm sure did well (I'd actually label him a genius). At shows like these you put a higher price on things, even turds, and hope for the best. I saw that two very poor condition, high priced machines sold early on in the show, so I figured people who were not knowledgeable "newbs" purchased said machines. I chose the term "idiots" to describe said definition of such individuals. I'm sorry you only saw what you wanted to see in that post, and NOT what I actually wrote (Again, scroll back (600 miles or so) and reread it, I haven't edited it, it still says the same thing it did when I wrote it and when you failed to reread it)

Now, back to the food/booze/after party/hotel/show talk, it's all about the Allentown experience!!

#1395 5 years ago
Quoted from too-many-pins:

Sorry about that! Lack of sleep & bad eyes without my glasses on missed one letter. "Bought" & "brought" look a lot alike at 1 or 2 AM after being up over 20 hours several days in a row.
As far as those pins - Mark (my neighbor) was selling them for someone and wasn't keeping any of the funds. According to what he had told me he was given a machine or two to sell the rest of them. Prices marked were just a starting point and very few machines sold for anything close to his original asking price but he did sell all of them on Friday so selling prices must have been OK in the end.

Ivan & his crew have done a great job taking control of the show over the past couple years. 3 or 4 years ago Ivan was pretty lax with the rules and things started getting pretty bad. Thankfully Ivan realized it before it was too late and turned things around very quickly. The intense security at the door sometimes seems a little overkill but it was what he needed to do to straighten things out. Again thanks to Ivan & his crew for doing such a great job with the show. It is no little task trying to keep hundreds of people happy and overall I think Ivan has done a great job.

No problem, happens to all of us

#1467 5 years ago

Allentown food porn?

The Renaissance didn't have breakfast.... don't think there was a pool either, and no bathroom vent (I already made my apologies)...but will 209% stay there again next time!
