This tread is to document my work to add a pinduino to the Bride of Pinbot. Since I had the playfield out for a playfield swap, I decided to add some addressable LED lights for some nice added effects during various aspects of gameplay with the Pinduino. This thread will take a while to complete as I still need to restore the cabinet.

First, I added a set of addressable LEDs along the shuttle ramp with the wires coming up through a hole near the entrance of the ramp. This will let me do nice chase lighting effects as well as brighten up a dark part of the playfield. This LED strip contains 46 LEDs (60LEDs/M)

To have some lighting effects on the face, I added a strip of 7 LEDs to each side, placed high on the black metal ball guards to hopefully keep the glare down. This may be too many lights for the area, but I know I can dial them back if need be through the Pinduino.

For those that haven't used addressable LEDs, you can program each LED individually in the red, green, blue channels (16+M colors) and create all types of lighting effects. Can't wait to get the rest of this together, but it will be a while!

I'll be using an off the shelf Pinduino board and writing the program myself.

Definitely. Rock Custom Pinballs (pinsider Rock914) is ramping up to manufacture the pinduino, including pre-programmed. All the stuff I have programmed is open sourced, so anyone is welcome to use it. Also, I wrote up a bunch of instructions for how to do pinduino stuff, including how to program them. If you are interested, PM me and I'll send you a link to my docs.

Is this something non programers could do?
