Nice looking machine...
I'm not sure about the bat, sorry.
But wondering... how do you access the lamps behind the backglass? I'm helping a friend out and I'm stumped. (I don't want to break anything.)
Thanks Oldgoat, just to check, that's on a Pinch Hitter, right? Any Idea where can I get the correct bat?
I also have templates to repaint the cabinet if anyone is interested, ramps and rubbers too.
The back glass slides out on the right side. Take the screws out of the moulding, take the back door off and pull back the slide (upper left when looking in from the back) that retains the back glass, then carefully slide it out sideways.
Looks like the metal bat was used on Pinch Hitter

Man, I could have used these a few years ago when I repainted the cabinet on mine. As it was, I spent a couple of evenings at the Pinball Hall of Fame in Vegas making artwork tracings of Tim Arnold's game while on a business trip. (Gotta have your priorities! )
Nice job on your restoration - looks great! My Pinch Hitter Deluxe has a black plastic bat on it. I believe my '62 World Series (practically the same game) has a metal bat with a rubber sleeve though.

Yes, it's a PinchHitter Deluxe. When I got it, the previous owner had done a partial restore...well, actually, he purchased parts to restore it but never got around to it, which is why he let it go. I would check to see if Steve at PBR has what you need.
The metal bat with rubber sleeve is correct. If you use the plastic one, use smaller balls or it may break. My game doesn’t have a lot of power at the bat (lots of slop in the parts), so i put in smaller balls.

I had one of these once... along with a Williams Official Baseball (which I think was the very next pitch and bat game made after Pinch Hitter?).
I also believe it was the last one to use the metal bat. I remember reading a post somewhere about someone who had made one, but no idea where I saw it.
It definitley has a unique feel when compared to the plastic ones.

Here is an old post about some being made, but not the correct one for Pinch Hitter.

Those are actually the 'joystick' or handle that the player pulls/slides to make the bat on the playfield fire. Still... very nice repros!

Ahh right you are! I was wondering which games used "wiffle ball" sized bats!
Quoted from kgodwin333:Hi
I'm finishing up my Pinch Hitter and I suspect I may not have the correct bat.
Mine is plastic but I saw a couple of other machines that had a metal bat.
Thanks[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]
Unfortunately you not only have the newer bat but for it to be on the game you have also a newer or modified batting assembly. You need a C 5161-1 batting unit with the metal bat.
Attached is tables of all Williams batting games parts and numbers that will help all batting game restorers on what parts you need for each game. Look at the tables as all of the info you will ever need is there. It is quite common to have swapped batting units & pitching units etc on different games.
Here is the tables link. https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/williams-baseball-game-motor-coils-and-bat-assembly-information#post-4333051
I update this list every year with what I find out about the games, the tables are probably now complete and info is mostly verified.
Also I prepared a tutorial on how to modify the older metal batting unit to a plastic bat, that requires you to drill out the bat spindle unit hole slightly so it all works. This is the opposite of what you need to do if you found the bat, sounds like sacrilege now with your challenge.
Here is that link. https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/update-your-1957-c-5161-batter-unit-assembly-with-a-slugfest-bat#post-3888923
So you need to swap with someone with a newer game but with an older batting unit and metal bat.
I wish you good luck and it is a time issue not an impossible issue.
I had a restored one and sold it, had a metal one with black rubber sleeve
I have about 7 nice pitch n bats I’m going to put up for sale, Short stop, 57 deluxe , etc
Just putting it out there

Your games are superb examples.
I recommend any one that wants a pitch and bat to contact whitey, you may not get an opportunity for some time to get these rarer games.
Thank You to everyone who responded to my original post.
I'm pretty sure that the batting unit has been swapped out, so I'm going to stick with that and the smaller balls until I can find the right one.
Take a look at the pics and see what you think.

DSCN0836 (resized).JPGDSCN0839 (resized).JPGDon’t know if there is legible print on the bat unit label that will tell you what game it came from.
I like others don’t like the 3/4” small balls and use the larger 7/8” larger ones anyhow with the plastic bat. I have not
broke one in ages. The right bat will turn up eventually and someone will want to swap.
Good luck.
