The first list of the 400 players who are registered for Pinburgh is now available:

    http://papa.org/2014/02/05/current-list-of-2014-pinburgh-players/

The list is categorized by players' "affiliations" as listed in their registration. If you'd like to change yours or add one, post here or send me a message. If you see someone who you think should add an affiliation, let them know.

Thanks again to the community for supporting Pinburgh! We look forward to a great event.

    #2 6 years ago

I'm curious how many registered players were in last year's event, but I don't feel like manually comparing the lists.

With registration filling up so fast, it would be interesting to know if a bunch of new players jumped on it at noon, or if it was mostly Pinburgh veterans who didn't want to risk missing out.

Anyone who likes doing this kind of thing, post your results!

    #4 6 years ago

Hey, I'm not on the list! oh, I knew that. (But I'm on the first 3)

    #5 6 years ago

No affliliation for the people of the Twisted Flipper pinball league....You know who you are!

Yes, please, someone do that so I don't have to

I used the data that Bowen provided to give it a go. I did a ridiculous amount of data cleansing to correctly correlate people who used different forms of their names different years, did and did not use their middle initial, etc.

637 total players. 84 of them played in all four years 2011-2014.

    135 new players for 2014.

    Of 400 players for 2014: 253 played in 2013. 147 did not.

Of 397 players for 2013: 253 will play in 2014. 144 will not.

Here's the breakdown of all possible combinations:

    Number Years
    34 2011 only
    49 2012 only
    75 2013 only
    135 2014 only
    10 2011 + 2012
    2 2011 + 2013
    4 2011 + 2014
    41 2012 + 2013
    4 2012 + 2014
    106 2013 + 2014
    24 2011 + 2012 + 2013
    4 2011 + 2012 + 2014
    8 2011 + 2013 + 2014
    55 2012 + 2013 + 2014
    84 2011 + 2012 + 2013 + 2014
    #7 6 years ago

Wow that's a lot of new players who were motivated to register so early!

Nice work, mot. You are a data hero!

    #8 6 years ago

I look forward to not playing against any of you.....at TPF.

664 total players. 76 of them played in all four years 2011-2014.
    146 new players for 2014.
    Of 400 players for 2014: 241 played in 2013. 159 did not.
Of 397 players for 2013: 241 will play in 2014. 156 will not.
Here's the breakdown of all possible combinations:
    Number Years
    41 2011 only
    55 2012 only
    88 2013 only
    146 2014 only

    2 2011 + 2013
    5 2011 + 2014
    42 2012 + 2013
    4 2012 + 2014
    101 2013 + 2014
    24 2011 + 2012 + 2013
    4 2011 + 2012 + 2014
    8 2011 + 2013 + 2014
    56 2012 + 2013 + 2014
    76 2011 + 2012 + 2013 + 2014

Apologies to anyone who read what I wrote here before I edited it. It took another 30 seconds of thinking to understand where my math error came from.

    Nice work on these numbers!

Yeah, I got shut out of Pinburgh4 so the options i'm considering are going to the TPF or having a kickass tournament here for the other Pinburgh orphans that weekend.

I've gone through several iterations of correlating people with different versions of themselves. There was at least one person who competed all four years under four slightly different names. I think it was a "Ron Jr.", "Ron Jr", "Ronald Jr.", "Ronald Jr" type of thing. But I set the record straight!

OK Bowen, I'll be the dumb lazy guy in the thread.

Is it possible for someone new to IFPA from a state that doesn't have IFPA leagues to sign up for Pinburgh? If so, how might this magic be accomplished? A link is as good as a wink to a blind bat

Certainly! I've never done anything associated with any IFPA leagues or tournaments or anything except Pinburgh. All you had to do was sign up. Unfortunately, you missed your chance for this year.

There is no attachment to an existing league of any sort necessary for signing up for Pinburgh, and Pinburgh is not run by IFPA. We allow players to identify with a group in any way they prefer. Some pick cities, others pick leagues.

Unfortunately, what was necessary was registration, and we have a hard cap of 400 players due to the size and logistics of the tournament site. Registration opened on January 11, and was full in about an hour and 45 minutes. The waiting list for tournament spaces is deep enough that I cannot recommend it to you.

I wish I had a more favorable answer for you, and hope to see you at some other event (Pinburgh 2015 perhaps!) or during my next visit to Utah this July.

    Dangit. Thanks for the info!

    Cool! Thanks for the info.

Let us Utah guys know when you're coming; we'll arrange some kind of pinball party or something.

I can't make them tell you. They are bigger than me and better at Pinball. So sad I couldn't join you guys this year. 2015 for sure!

Of the 172 people who competed in Pinburgh 2011 (the first one, right?):

110 have competed in all three so far

84 of them have competed in all three and are in for 2014, too.

    #20 6 years ago

How about those that also attended Pinburgh 2000-2003?

    331 Neo Skywalker

    Is that name freal?

haha... I came here for the same reason. I'm waiting for our own Captain Neo to confirm.

Neo is awesome! And very freal?

    #24 6 years ago

Cool that's a really interesting name.
I've seen the website before and assumed it was a company name.

Proud to be one of those 3year veterans.

id like to see the complete list, with everyone on the wait list. its hard to see who DIDNT get in unless thinking one player at a time.

That's Captain Neo's legal name. I'll stop there.

    #28 6 years ago

We don't plan to post the names from the entire waitlist, especially since many of them don't have much chance of getting off the list. We will keep the "first 5" visible so that players may anticipate their chance of getting into the event.

From what I've heard, Neo Skywalker is his correct name, given at birth.

Yes, we set up the Satellite parking in the same lot as last year. We should be releasing a video offering more details and a visual aid for new players this weekend.
