Hello -

Hoping someone can give me a starting place to dig into an issue I am having with my Pinbot machine. It was working fine this morning, but now I turn it on and ONLY get the GI. No boot tone, no solonoids firing, no displays, nothing else.. I checked the fuses and all seems good, but based on the amount of things not powering, I assume this is larger than a fuse issue.. Any direction on where I should start troubleshooting would be much appreciated!

How is it coming along? Any updates?

Hey Billc479 - Sorry for the lack of updates, was waiting on a shipment of fuses which just arrived.. So, unfortunately, still having an issue but here's where we are at...

-Thank you for the article! Reading through that helped me to understand the 'flow' of how the machine boots..
-In following that flow, I discovered the MPU board is not getting any power.
-This helped me find that one of the two logic fuses (F5) was blown on the power supply board.
-I ordered new fuses which arrived today - and unfortunately the fuse continues to blow immediately upon powering on, so clearly something is wrong resulting in blowing the fuse..

So, now what? How do I narrow down whats going on? Appreciate your help!

I am going to guess you have a bad bridge rectifier on the power supply board, or a shorted capacitor. Look closely at the power board - a bad capacitor sometimes swells and/or leaks its guts out. A bad bridge will sometimes blow a hole thru the block.

Thanks Bill - I will take a look. Is there a way to narrow down which capacitors interact with that fuse? Or do they all?

Do you have the schematics? If not, find a copy - the one on IPDB is a terrible copy of a copy of a bad copy.

Regardless, F5 goes to BR1 and to C7 - a 100uf 25V capacitor. Lift a lead on C7 and see if it is shorted. If its original to the board, then its time to replace it due to age.

Read up on how to test a bridge - I think there's a section in Pinwiki. Sorry I'm not as helpful as others.

Progress?

Hey Billc479 - Thanks for the follow-up. I couldn't see any capacitor issues on the power supply that would lead me to determining where the issue was, so I ended up just replacing it with a new Rottendog one this morning. I am happy to report that this has resolved the problems and PinBot is working once again!! Thank you all for your help !

Are you going to get the old board repaired as a spare?
