In short, here is what's going on with my pinbot that does not have speech.

1. 1 bong tone heard clearly during game start up.
2. All music works fine both during testing and during game play and volume pot in cabinet works as it should.
3. No speech or sound effects during game play or during sound test.
4. However, during the sound test and with the volume all the way up, I can faintly hear sound effects from 0-5 but not 6 and 7.

I have reseated the ribbon cable and other connectors between MPU and sound card. I removed, cleaned and reseated the ROM chips at U21 and U22. The Roms at u21 and u22 are not original either and they were installed before I got the game and I have no way of knowing if 1 or both are bad.

After reading some posts, I'm thinking that I should replace the 1458 Op amp at U4, CVSD at U3 and the 10 uf cap at C15.

Could anyone chime in with advice if they think I should do something different?

Replace both 10uf caps at and both 1458 amp chips. Problem solved
