Hi! I'm having a strange problem with PinBot for the last week that is really annoying and I'm not sure where to go next with fixing it. After a few games of play, The machine will completely lock up. Usually all of the playfield lights go out, the displays shut off, sometimes the flippers still work (and sometimes not). The music still plays. This really seems completely random, not as the ball hits a specific switch as I've had it shut down while the ball is in the middle of the playfield. I've gone through the switch tests and get no errors. I can press every switch by hand and they all work. Yesterday one game the machine rebooted mid-game back to attract mode.

The game was occasionally throwing a random tilt, which I believe was resolved by a broken wire on Switch 40 (enter ramp) which I already repaired.

I replaced the batteries. There is no battery leakage on the board.

The power supply board is brand new (Same problem with the old one), and I've tried 2 sets of roms. I've reseated all of the connections on the boards twice. What makes this tough is that you can play 7 or 8 games perfect, and then it finally locks up. It gets your hopes up that you finally fixed it - then bam! ugh!

Anyone have any ideas on what to check next? Thank You!

I had the same thing on my Pinbot for a while. I repinned the top power connector to the MPU and then it was fixed. That's one possibility.
It could also be a logic problem, and could be a failing IC anywhere on the MPU. It sounds like the background sound board is just running along with music, but the MPU has crashed. Are any of the ICs getting hot to the touch?

This may be an advanced repair so you may consider the possibility of sending the board out to a pro.

Thanks for the reply wayout- This game used to lock up occasionally about a year ago, and "magically" fixed itself and has been fine until last weekend when it started again. Could definitely be a bad connection that has to be sitting just right to work... Hopefully I'll have some time to investigate further soon. Will be busy this week with Thanksgiving.

Just noticed you're in Berea. I'm right next door in Middleburg Heights, Coincidentally.

Sweet. I grew up in Middleburg Hts. My parents live there. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Check the slam switch on the coin door, make sure it has plenty of gap between the contacts, also check the slam switch under the p/f too.
