Finally getting around to installing my new plastics. What is the best way to get the visor off so I can replace the hand painted p.o.s. face that's under it? Just remove the cotter pins and washers?

Quoted from chaskett:

Yep, remove cotter pins and washers on both sides. Then unscrew the two hex screws holding down the metal plate on the playfield. Niw you should be able to lift off the mask and connected base plate.
Here's more explanation (and an excellent blog on a pinbot rehab):

Sweet. Thanks.

Removing the visor was easy. There's the painted face. Ick. And what the hell is that round burn mark from?IMG_20180220_193929311 (resized).jpgIMG_20180220_193929311 (resized).jpgIMG_20180220_194709772 (resized).jpgIMG_20180220_194709772 (resized).jpgIMG_20180220_194643945 (resized).jpgIMG_20180220_194643945 (resized).jpg

Quoted from jibmums:

In what order are the left clear ramp, blue ramp, and left rear corner plastic under the blue ramp removed? I can't remove the blue ramp without first taking off the clear ramp because of the metal flap, can't get to one of the clear ramp's bracket screws without removing the corner plastic, and can't remove the corner plastic with the blue ramp still over it. Fiendish.
Edit: Aha, now I see, you just have to finagle the blue ramp around the metal flaps a bit.

Yes. Just be careful that you don't finagle a wire off of one of the ramp switches...like I did.

Just finished repopulating the mini playfield. What a pain in the ass!IMG_20180224_220940 (resized).jpgIMG_20180224_220940 (resized).jpg

Quoted from Aniraf:

I was concerned about this as well. I haven’t gotten to cleaning mine yet :/.

I just wiped it down with some Windex. It's nicked here and there, but pretty solid overall. Attaching the new posts wasn't fun. Tried not to be aggressive with them. I used a tiny, tiny dab of Vaseline to get the rubbers to slide on, which worked out nicely.

#2245 6 years ago
Quoted from Aniraf:

Question for anyone who has restored a machine, @vid1900s guide suggests clear coating the playfield before repairing, which makes a lot of sense, but also seems like a bit of a pain if I take it to a professional paint booth. Is there any type of low budget clear I could do at home, then restore paint and decals, then take it to a professional for a perfect final clear?

There's bunch of threads on that topic laying around. Search for "Spraymax" or "clearcoat" and you should find some good info.

Quoted from MustangPaul:

Ha, if you think that's a pain try making one.

I'll take a pass on that challenge.

#2249 6 years ago
Quoted from MustangPaul:

Actually it's not that hard, took me about 3 hours and was really fun to make.

I can see the fun in it, but cutting lexan isn't a skill I've learned.

#2252 6 years ago
Quoted from Aniraf:

Ok, I’ll research a little more…but you recommend clearing before detail work?

All I recommend is you follow up on the info I directed you to so that you can make an informed and comfortable decision.

Just finished a teardown. Replaced all plastics with new ones, replaced all the rubber and replaced posts with blue/red on the proper sides. It had all blue/red LEDs when I got it, but it was too much. Swapped out some of the colors with white bulbs and I feel it's much better now. It's not dark like it was and still keeps the blue/red theme with a nice balance.IMG_20180301_165256820 (resized).jpgIMG_20180301_165256820 (resized).jpgIMG_20180301_165308907 (resized).jpgIMG_20180301_165308907 (resized).jpgIMG_20180301_165246049 (resized).jpgIMG_20180301_165246049 (resized).jpgIMG_20180301_165231907 (resized).jpgIMG_20180301_165231907 (resized).jpg

Quoted from metalkatt:

Something is not right with my left ramp setup.... the post to the left of it, the rubber seems to stick out past the ramp so when the ball comes down it hits the rubber ring and bounces to the right of the playfield..... can't figure out what is out of place?

Mine's like that, however the left part of the ramp is not as far left as yours (1/16" - 1/8" more to the right). Is the left side of your ramp bent towards the left? Is the lifting arm bent?

#2378 6 years ago
Quoted from metalkatt:

nothing seems to be bent, and when i stripped it down to see if maybe the ramp wasn't mounted properly on that left side because the person I got it from had been changing out bulbs, but it is screwed down into the hole......i love this machine but it has some weird things wrong with it......ugh.

Well, I guess you could put a skinny post there if you can't make adjustments.

Quoted from CollinT:

Does anyone know how the rubber post sleeves are supposed to go on top of the bride of Pinbot section? I’ve seen several variations online.
Thanks

There are no rubber post sleeves on the mini-playfield if that is what you're refering to. See post #2240 on page 45 for my mini-playfield I re-populated recently.

Can someone post a pic of the clear ramp with the active x sticker on it? Thanks

Check the topic gallery. You'll find one.

Quoted from ChrisPINk25:

Hey All, anyone know a source for this ballguide wire part 12-6466-6? Marco is out. Appears to be about 1.5 inches wide. If no source, ideas on how to handcraft one? Or put a post there?

You could just order some pin stock and bend it yourself. Measure the diameter (I dont remember offhand what it is) and find it on the web. Its not hard to bend.
