Some random Pin-Bot love today. A non Pinsider showed off some pics of a foreign version of Pin-Bot. Absolutely beautiful. Hell, I will go as far as to say this version was better produced than the Williams team (I know I will burn in Hell for that comment).

Also anyone watch the show Legit? Open your eyeballs in a few episodes and look at what is outside of the guys bachelor pad. (hint hint it deals with this thread).

More pinbot love. It was looking good but needed a serious cleaning.

Anybody know if it's possible to bring a little shine to the old mylar? It's going to pagg in 11 days so removal is out of the question.

Sure. You can shine that mylar with one of the kits or you can use the Meguire's polishing balls and some 3M Perfect-It polishing compound. That stuff is amazing. I also hear that those headlight restore kits work pretty well also.

Just setup pinbot after returning from pin-a-go-go. 489 plays total. That's a new game every 3.9 minutes!

Every body loved the blue/red displays. The displays caught their attention and got them playing.

Sometimes you will not even use the left flipper. LOL.

I posted this in All but thought I should post here as well for the experts.

Finally finished my PinBot and everything works perfectly except for the vortex ramp. I bought a reproduction one and installed it since the existing one had several cracks and repairs. Problem is that the ball never even makes it to the 5K drop through hole. I noticed that the piece of spring metal at the bottom of the ramp was sitting up about 1/8" off the play field. I used a dremel tool to shave the plastic down and then used a dab of RTV to hold the spring steel ramp down so it is completely flush with the play field. I put a new high power (blue) spring from Marco in the ball shooter. If I pull the ball shooter back about half way there is just not enough power to get up the ramp. Pulling the ball shooter back further puts more power behind the ball but then the ball seems to jump around when it hits the rivets holding down that spring steel and he ball again never reaches far enough up to even get to the 5K drop through hole.

Thinking about trying to shave down those rivets but don't know if that is wise. I don't want to have to redo them if I go too far and PinBot obviously worked with the rivets before.

Any ideas or suggestions would be most welcome. This is a great game but it bugs the hell out of me if everything doesn't work.

Thanks!

Al

#158 9 years ago

Al, can you take an overhead shot of the ramp meeting the guide and post it? I wonder if the thicker ramp edge is pushing the spring steel in and making a hard edge for the ball to hit.

I ran into an issue were when reassembling I put the spring steel behind the ramp. The plastic lip stole enough energy from the ball to prevent it from hitting the 5k hole

That really sounds like it is an alignment problem. My Pinbots are notorious for not going up the ramp if the plunger hits the ball in anything but EXACTLY straight on. Look at where the plunger lines up on the ball when the ball is at rest in the trough. If it is hitting the ball low, it would put back spin on it and it won't make it up the ramp.

Try this. Take off the glass. Put the ball in the trough and try lifting or shifting the playfield side to side to line it up exactly center (or a little higher than center on mine) and see if it does any better.

If that is your problem, then you have to work on getting the plunger to hit the ball straight.

#160 9 years ago

Brad and others,

Thanks, there were three problems. First I didn't take enough plastic off the vortex ramp to make it flush with the playfield. I ground it down even more with the Dremel tool and a file and then put another dab of RTV to hold the flap down on the plastic. This made a big difference. Second thing was to put in a new shooter sleeve to take the play out of the shooter rod due to wear of the old sleeve. Third was, as you said, alignment. I was able to get the shooter tip to hit the ball in the center but it is hitting it a bit high. Correcting the height pushes it off center and being off center is much much worse than hitting the ball a bit high and putting some spin on it. I will eventually get around to routing the opening for the shooter some so I can correct the height adjustment. But right now it works pretty well. So well in fact that when I had my wife come down stairs to admire my handy work and she played a game on her first shot the ball all the way to the top of the ramp!! It is a bit finicky and sometimes just doesn't make it up the ramp at all but that is part of the fun I guess. If you could reliably shoot it to the top every time that would take some of the challenge out of the game. I did put in one of Marco Specialties red springs - the highest/strongest spring. This is probably too much so I may go back to the blue spring which is one step down from the red.

Again, thanks Brad and everyone for the comments and suggestions. PinBot is pretty awesome. Even my wife who is a big EM fan likes PinBot.

Sweet, look what my pinbot gets...

IMG_0066.jpgIMG_0066.jpg

I had bought a black JackBot ramp as I couldn't find a red PinBot one anywhere, then I got lucky on Ebay and there it was one day. Anyway I just put the black one on Ebay if anyone is interested.

Apologies if this has been posted before. Planetary has vortex ramp in stock.

They must have just gotten those in fairly recently, as they were out of stock everywhere a few months back when I was looking and ended up getting the JackBot ramp instead.

Someone semi local to myself has been making and selling a v2.0? Red vortex ramp if people are still in need. This guy claims that his is made out of a new material and will not break. Seller is specialtyplastics1 on Ebay. Here is a link to his last auction. I would assume that means he will be listing another here soon.

Just use a small round file. You will be surprised at how little you have to take off to get it to drop where you need it. You really only need the lowest screw to go down a little.

Just out of curiosity, how much would a clean, working pinbot go for these days? Someone I know is selling one and wasn't sure if his offer was in the right range. Thanks for any help you could give.

#168 9 years ago

Hoping for better luck here vs PPW. Looking for a visor for my Pinbot, mine is badly warped.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Depends on condition. Playfield wear, broken plastics, topper, cabinet, all have an effect.
That said............. $1,200-1500 would be my guess.

Thanks RCA1. The guy selling is wanting $1k for it and it appeared to have everything (no broken plastics and the topper) and little wear on the playfield. I am just trying to figure out if I have the space for it right now. I appreciate the insight. Hopefully, I will become part of the pinbot club soon.

#171 9 years ago

FYI- Sold one recently for $1,800 that was in very nice condition..

#172 9 years ago

1K sounds like a good deal. I sold one of mine a year ago in what sounds like the same condition except mine had a restored clearcoated playfield for $1200.

#173 9 years ago

Thanks guys. Ended up waiting too long for it. Spent the weekend driving to pick up a black hole and was hoping it would still be around next weekend. Hope I do not regret it. Badbrad, it could very well have been your old one as it was in the SC area. I'll be keeping an eye out for one in the future. Thanks again for everybody's help.

Pinbot mini playfeild for $25 buy it now on ebay. Good deal for somebody if you need one.

Hi, has anyone got or could take photos of their cabinet earth braid. Finally giving mine a tidy up and putting braid through it. ( ex owner ripped it all out). Tried google images for sys11 cab, but didn't help much. Any help would be great.
Thanks

After 2 months of struggling to find enough time to work on it, I finally got the lower cabinet stripped and repainted. It was my first overhaul, and it came out ok I guess. I still have to do the backbox.

That looks great. You got the hard part out of the way. After doing the lower cab, the backbox is going to be a breeze.

You'd think that. But I guess I put the stencils on too soon for the paint. I pulled a lot of black off when I removed the stencils.

It's my first go with stencils. So...I don't know yet if I'd give them another try with a different game. It may be that I have super high standards for my work.

You'd probably be better off just using frisket and cutting out your own stencils. The backbox doesn't take long to do at all.

Stencils were misaligned on the backbox its ok you can use frisket to fix the inside of the sun might as will reshoot the red center and fix the black after other areas you can brush in between the red and yellow to fix it heres on I did last fall wasnt a complete strip and paint but i frisketed the cabinet and redid all the black and retouched the red and yellow893624_717029168307520_309201195_o.jpg893624_717029168307520_309201195_o.jpg977467_717029884974115_236518901_o.jpg977467_717029884974115_236518901_o.jpg

God that's a nice machine. That's what I want mine to look like when it's done.

It's my first full restore. I'll be making a lot of mistakes, but that's how I learn.

Anyone got a lead on where I can get a microswitch for my left ramp assembly? I am looking for Williams part # 5647-12001-00. I tried all the usually places and it's either out of stock or not even in their system. Pinbot is unplayable because the ramp stays partially open. And this is making me sad.

Thanks!

#189 9 years ago

Pinbot was my first W/B game I got. It's a bit of a beater (planking, inserts are rough due to petrified glue that wasn't cleaned off after someone took off the Mylar) but plays nice, which is all
I care about.
Any LED suggestions for getting better light to the mid-section of the PF? Like playing my games in the dark. Thought about putting some spot lights on the top of the sling shots. Here's what it looks like now.

Youre problem was coloring the GI bulbs dimmed the machine down suppose you could replace 2 of the sling bulbs with flex leds and cast them twards the center of the playfield. Spotlights is just a ghetto way to light the machine up and looks sloppy.
