I own one and love it. Mine is in beautiful shape as I put a new playfield and new plastics on it right after I got it which was over 10 years ago now. Great game and it has my favorite lights and sounds of any pinball machine. I have the entire Pinbot trilogy lined up in order and they will always be in my collection.
I'm a trilogy owner myself. I think Pin-Bot was the first pinball machine I ever played! I am having issues with my Pin-Bot at the moment, but once I figure it out I want to do the 1/2 and 1/2 color like you did as well.
Owner and lover here. Sign me up.
I have a similar LED thing going in the backbox. I have purple behind the Bride picture though.
Pinbot circuits activated!
Quoted from wayout440:Do we really need a club for EVERY GAME?
Just kidding. Yay Pinbot! Mine only ever gives me trouble in the very far back where it is impossible to get to anything without pulling the whole playfield. Right now I have to decide whether to find a rivet kit to put a new flap on my (black Jackbot) vortex ramp, or buy a new red one from Planetary.

Red vortex looks better IMO. If you have a functional black that is o.k. too. Another option might be to find a used red one and repair that I suppose.
Sign me up! I just received my rubber kit so I'm about to replace all of that. Haven't even thought about lights yet but I like that 1/2 & 1/2 idea. Anyone have a source for some broken/missing plastics?
Quoted from wayout440:If you have a functional black that is o.k. too
Yep mine is not broken at the top which is nice but is missing the ramp flap which is not
Mine's a work in progress. Board issues. But as soon as it's working, I'm aiming to get a new playfield and plastics!
Seems like a good spot to put my pinbot story.
As a kid, playing pinbot on location, I hated it. I cursed it as a drain monster, but played it anyway. Always very quick games (damn outlanes!) Years later my daughter saw a pinball machine in an open garage door when we were driving by and I made a mental note. About a week later was driving by and caught a glimpse of a pin in there with a distincive red topper. Said what the hell, did a turn around and went over. Was a couple Harleys in driveway and a few bikers hanging out, introduced myself and looked her over. After about a weeks worth of back and forthing worked out a deal. He got this from his dad who had it in the house the whole time he was growing up. Not a HUO as it has lockbar holes, but probably pretty close. Translight 9 at least, playfield factory mylared and dirty as hell but no wear at all other than decals peeling a bit. All plastics intact and nice. No cab fade at all, a few little dings and smudges but very minor. Intact topper! Rubbers were rotted, balls rusty, most lights and all flashers out and over all filthy, other than that seemed to work 100% with the exception of one switch on the vortex ramp. He had no idea the backbox even opened and had NEVER changed the batteries. A bit of green on the contacts but boards were clean and number matching originals. Looks like one resistor may have been replaced at one point, but properly done. All in all a nice score.
I picked it up with the intention of restoring it and using it as trade bait for another pin. However, in the course of fixing it up and playing it, discovered the magic that is Pinbot. The first time reaching the sun and seeing the special light lit was awesome. As was the first time hearing "Million activated" Had a couple of EPIC games where I actually flipped the score counter over. I am a convert now and it's a definate keeper. Pin*Bot rules!
7,400,000 is my highest score. Mine is set to 'Install Hard'. PinBot when it was in the arcades always kicked my butt. Today it will still kick my butt. I have only reached the 'Sun' 4 times in the past 2 years. It is a real fun game.
This thread got the pinbot bug in me so just kicked it's ass. Love hearing "We control the universe".
That T-Shirt is hella awesome! Who doesn't love controlling the universe?
The stories and pics are great, keep 'em coming!

I got the shirt from Pinsider MattG who had a bunch of cool shirt designs for sale for about an hour before he pulled them for copyright/licensing reasons. I ordered before they were pulled and got the only one made. Its a one of a kind. Showed it to Python and he loved the humor of it and was happy to endorse it with his sig. Cool guy.
I love me some pinbot. One of my favorite machines. Any chance someone has the scan of the chest plate overlay? I'm in the process of restoring my PF and can't get the text in the eye locks correct. I want to just make a waterslide decal, but don't want to pay 40 bucks just for that text. I hand painted the rest. If someone could provide me with that file and email it to quirk.matt at gmail that would be awesome!! Even if someone could take a picture of the text so I could make a file with photoshop would also work.
image-54.jpgJust finishing up this restore for Pinballerchef. He should have one of the nicest around real soon.
I had to redo te eye lock text fattdirk. I have the file I made to do the decals. I will upload it soon and get it to you.

I removed my mylar with the goo gone and hairdryer method with minimal lifting as well. I would recommend freeze spray though as well.
Used upside down duster for mine. Mylar came off easily but the glue is of course a pain. I didn't lose any art until scrubbing the glue off, then took out a little bit of insert text from areas that were just on the outside edge of the mylar ("lights extra ball" insert up top and one of the "extra ball" inserts near the flippers.

any tips on finding some mylar pre cut sheet
Are you looking for something like this? I think this is what you are looking for. Pin-Bot game specific mylar:
ebay.com link: Pinbot Pinball Machine PLAYFIELD Factory Mylar Set
Edit: Above link isint working for me on Pinside even though it is the correct link. You can use the below link and manually search for Pin-Bot from this seller.
ebay.com link: classicarcades
An alternative to Mylar I used for the eye sockets on my Pin-Bot:

This stuff is supposed to be removable without damaging the artwork. I haven't dared to remove mine though so I don't know accurate this statement is.
Here's my Pin*Bot.

Great game!
No turning back now, really didn't buy this pin to do major work started the strip down, will do more tmo,
ordered some cans of freeze, i might use this mylar sheet & then trim it off http://mrpinballa2.cart.net.au/details/2901055.html
have searched some threads on removing mylar on pinbots, couple of guys have removed old mylar & then polished/wax PF, no CC'ing or replacing mylar, i know the pin will have limited use if i go with not replacing the mylar, seems to be the quickest/cheapest solution, short term ok long term who knows

Well it looks like the poor ol' pinny needs a good bath, so you might as well. Think of the smile on your face when you get it all shiny in the end

Yep - I remove most mylar (I usually keep the mylar rings around pops) and then polish/wax PF. Maybe I don't play mine as much as others, I feel that if I keep it clean it is going to take a long time to wear it out. I just don't like mylar, and I don't have the ambition to go through the work of a CC.

Your thread is actually what inspired me to restore mine!! Thanks a lot
I saw the original hand drawn PIN BOT lettering this past weekend when visiting with Python. Very cool to see.

Good luck with your restore!
Quoted from ShootForSlrValue:Really though. My kingdom for a Pin*Bot.
Sorry, You can keep your Medieval Madness.
Good luck with your search
I picked up my pinbot for $300, previous owner had started parting it out and I had to buy new score displays and find a translate from another pinsider. Cabinet is in excellent condition and with the exception of one transistor locking a coil, everything worked. This is the favorite machine of my 17 year old son and I. He usually wins, but every so often the old man shows him up!
I recently bought a brand new playfield already clear coated and an unbroken vortex. Photos are of machine as it is now and the new playfield I'll be populating in the next month or two.photo 1.JPG

This was my first restore. $200 non-working Pinbot. It was rough.
Way too much work to list. Clear coated playfield, fully restored cabinet.
It will never leave my house.

Nice restore! Looks like you've got his bride over in the corner. Maybe if you put them next to each other they'll make baby-bots?
