Quoted from Bublehead:

Some cardboard and tape and make a chute that diverts the coins over the coin detect switch and forget it, total cost $1.99. Nostalgia is one thing, but validating a coin for no good reason is a serious waste of cash. Coin mechs in my machines havent seen a quarter in decades. I know some players (like Rick Stetta for instance) who just keep a bowl of quarters near their machines because the coin drop is part of pinball... well, the cardboard and tape route gives you that for the least money, just not the least hassle.

this is just a trashy way to do it. If I went to buy a game and saw that setup in the coin door, I'd immediately be looking for other problems on teh assumption the owner did not know what they were doing. Just get the correct mech.

Quoted from Bublehead:

Wow, never heard of so many people dissing a duct tape solution before... are you sure you all have your man cards punched for duct tape solutions? Because in my mind, I spent $1.99 and the coins go in coin box, register a credit, and didn’t break the bank. As far as looking at Red Green’s coin door and thinking what else is wrong?, uh would they think what else is missing if they saw no coin mechs at all? OP didnt say he was selling it. But if you want to drop coin and get the machine to make a coin drop noise, Red Green is done, already dropping coins and drinking beer... some of us yanks are not into extreme prettiness inside their cabinets, ymmv

missing is fine. its the badly rigged solution to a very easily and cheaply acquired correct fix that would make one wonder what else the owner has done.
