Quoted from Pbpins:

Addams Family!

Really?!? your so wrong.

Game show maybe, but TAF? There's a reason why so many were sold.

pinball 2000

It's been said but I'll second Revenge from Mars. Great pinball for both novices and pros. Fun, campy, cute, different.

Dunno why noone has mentioned MM, althought I can understand if its due to the price and availability.
But that aside, it is the game which brought me into pinball, my girlfriend into pinball, my friends into pinball, people Ive met at the arcade into pinball... in my experience its almost a 100% successrate for bringing non-pinballers into the time- and money consuming hobby that is pinball

I guess its what was mentioned earlier, they like to immediately know what to shoot, and the castle is a keeper. Then you slowly start wonderign what the other stuff is, and your hooked

But since AFM is a MM clone, I would say AFM.

I have to disagree with TAF though, it might attract newbies because of the theme, but it is a damn hard pinball and more oft than not, inexperienced players will lose the ball so often and quick that they get pissed off and hate the world afterwords. Just my humble opinion

Quoted from accidental:

There is one thing in common with all newbies: they only shoot up the middle.

So then the best games for newbies are ones where constantly shooting up the middle will cause something interesting and meaningful to happen.

Outside of theme and humor, this ^^^^^^^^^.

On balls rolling down the inlane to the flipper, newbies nearly always flip early -- they don't have the confidence to let the ball roll further down the flipper and agonizingly close to the drain.

Quoted from rygar:

Fish Tales. Simple and addictive game with great artwork.

This game is too difficult to be newbie friendly.

The ultimate non-pinhead games are pin2K/.

They were designed for people who don't like pinball.

I had a series of games at my old office. Jack*bot did well with as a first pin, easy to understand and easy enough to get multiball, and the casino run was obtainable by many, and that had the fun aspect of 'greed' which was fun for spectators. Also held up extremely well.

Then went to a Doctor Who which the people who were becoming players liked, but was not as popular with more casual players. Currently have a roadshow there which they love, figured they were now ready for a 'mode' game and the extra flippers (I no longer work there, but they pay me to keep a machine there). They keep a white board near the machine where about three dozen people keep track of their high scores.

I found with kids, that WCS is the most popular (in some way regret selling it for that reason), shooting for the goal was obvious and rewarding for them, even if that is not really the thing to focus on.

Jack*bot does well for the just shoot up the middle reason. You smack the visor till it opens then shoot in the middle again to lock balls. My 4 year old nephew can do it.

Quoted from StrangelovePhD:

Is Demolition Man a good non-pinhead pin? Are system 11 games more attractive for being straight forward or do they not get that much play because they don't have a dmd?

I don't think Demolition Man would be a good non-pinhead pin. It may be a little too complex for them to know what to do in the game and really enjoy it...unless they just like shooting around. Really, I think it depends if the person connects with the theme.

Hard to imagine there's a huge crowd out there that can connect with the Demolition Man theme!

AFM. The saucer in the middle of the playfield is an easily identifiable goal.

I figured I’d resurrect this thread. I’ve had people over a couple of times now and TNA is far and away the most popular game with folks that don’t have little to no background info on pinball. It destroys the four Sterns I’ve got. Deadpool was the next most popular.

Attack from Mars (noobs can get a kick out of destroying the ship). Whirlwind (easy to explain objectives). World Cup Soccer (Even little kids understand scoring a goal). DE Jurassic Park (The Dinosaur Eats The Ball!!!).

#65 4 years ago

Simple, the greatest decade in pin history, any 1980's pin.

#66 4 years ago

Among recent games, The Beatles is simple to understand, hard to master. Approachable.

Whirlwind (easy to explain objectives).

I agree it is easy to explain scoring objectives but man that game can be brutal and fast!

#68 4 years ago

Ditto to the AFM input. Theme, center shot, billions scoring, and simple/quick results with destroying the first two saucers make for a quick payoff for noobs.

#69 4 years ago

Agreed with all of this points above but the thing that draws people into a TNA is the speed. Everyone loves how fast it is and it makes it more of a reflex game. I actually think RWH is on to something. I think those would go over well because they are easy to explain but play fast.

Quoted from RWH:

Simple, the greatest decade in pin history, any 1980's pin.

I found Wheel of Fortune a real fun sleeper, great multi-ball and everyone knows the rules.
