Quoted from CaptainNeo:

wait what? you went with an apple product and say your a cheap bastard? That can't even be said in the same sentence. Apple ass rapes you hardcore on prices for all their crap.

Lol at the apple product vs android/Microsoft warrior. And it's "you're" a cheap bastard. You're- you are. "Your" is a completely different word, and it's not used or pronounced the same.

Both Apple and Microsoft make fine products.

I have an A+ cert, so I know enough about computers to be dangerous , but I can not figure this one out, I have been doing the updates for a month now hoping that one of those updates would fix it, but still no good, I am sure that i am not the only one dealing with this, looks like I am going to have to buy a copy of windows 7 and just stick with that

Did you go to manufacturer and update drivers for all components? Sounds like you have a bad driver (video or other) and unfortunately unless the manufacturer certified its windows 10 compatible (and maybe even if it is) then you need to roll back. When you do an install of Windows 10 you can roll back unless you deleted the old files..

So, I'm trying to install Java... but I'm not sure which direction the band on the diode should face? Left or right? Does it matter if the playfield is propped up, or flipped over on a rotisserie? If I buy Java from someone other than an authorized distributor, will I void my warranty? Can we get a detailed guide from Vid on installing Java?

Do you mean the Williams pinball machine, ice cream treats or Alaskan lesbians?

ice cream

Quoted from o-din:

It was fun to have for a while, but became too easy to play. It really doesn't need that center up post. I even took out those posts between the flippers and slingshots but it was still too easy. A great starter game though that can usually be had for cheap.

Rule #1, always unplug the machine

I did the upgrade to windows 10 from windows 7 , and now my laptop is a paperweight, it takes forever for it to load and when i click on something it takes like 20 minutes for it to respond, now where is that windows xp disc?

This was my first time trying out 'updating' instead of clean installing a new OS and I 100% recommend against it. It didn't work great - drivers seemed missing/messy, long load times, and general frustration ensued so I rolled back immediately to Win 7 (which worked really well actually) with the intent of properly clean installing the new OS.

A week or so later I backed up my files and did a clean reformat and Windows 10 install and it works way better. There's still the odd hiccup (mostly due to my own inability to find things) but the system seemed to find 100% of drivers properly, and I'm not having the stutters and load times I had before.

My favorites Klondike Ice Cream Bars are the Neapolitan ones.

Quoted from Pinchroma:

Better engineered. Better designed. Better standardized ecosystem. There just isn't any downside to them.

A friend of mine had a display go out on his i-mac so I decided to get a mac mini and use my own display. I bought that thing about 8 years ago for $600 and it's been working great ever since. I haven't spent a dime on anti-virus software. If the display goes out it will be easy to replace. Amazing little device that mac mini.

Anybody liking Windows 10? I just installed it yesterday. I hope I don't regret it.

It got deployed on all the field laptops at work.

Better than Win8, easier to find stuff, bootup and shutdown is faster.

Does Windows 10 come with Java?

I hope so.

I can't do my online banking or visit porn sites without it.

Yep.

All the cool kids have made their own Hackintosh. 4x as fast, 1/4 the price:

Uff...Windows 10 no thanks. Windows 8 running 'Start 8' to turn into 7 works great for my uses.

#265 8 years ago

Explorer keeps restarting like every single minute. Sent 500 reports to MS. Found the KB update, no hotfix. Go to download it through Windows Update (which I have to search for by the way since it is no longer in the start menu or control panel) and it says I need to restart before installing a bulk update. Reboot and try again, "your PC is up to date."

That couldn't be further from the truth. Like anything you get what you pay for. I replace a PC based laptop every 24-30 months for either shitting the bed or some other reason. So I've spent over a 5 year span 4-5 grand or almost 1k a year to own them.
My MacBook pros go strong for 5-6 years and cost 2500 to buy thus costing me $500 a year.
Better engineered. Better designed. Better standardized ecosystem. There just isn't any downside to them.

thats bullshit to a tee. I don't know what PC products you are buying but I have around 15 computers in this house that get used. and most of them are anywhere from 10-6 years old. I've never had a PC take a shit, except from the laptop I plugged into the TV and a non grounded outlet and fried the motherboard.

HP, Dell, Lenovo. All crap. And I'm talking about laptops not desktops you build. Anything I've built lasts as long as I want it to.

If your newest machine is 6 years old and you stated you are running XP then that confirms what we all already knew. You are one cheap f... XP is no longer supported or patched by Microsoft. Not a good idea to still be running it. But I guess if your machines are a decade + old you need it.

#268 8 years ago

I like XP. it runs my old software which doesn't work on newer stuff.

Agreed. I only had Windows 8 for a month before the free W10 upgrade came out ... Lucky because windows 8 was crap.

Quoted from maxwell:

wow...all of this is over my head. I'm just an average internet user, not a computer geek. I'm married and don't use our computer for porn. We do online banking so I wouldn't want to risk getting a virus and information getting out so I don't visit seedy or untrustworthy websites. I made the mistake in typing pinballlife and had this happen. I don't know anything about java/flash/shockwave or any of those plug-ins and whether they should be enabled. I thought they were good but I don't know.

You're either doing marriage completely wrong, or better than anyone else here.

I've got a dell inspiron laptop that's pushing 10 years old running windows XP and its the most stable computer I have. It's completely offline but, like you said, it runs certain (expensive) software far better than my newer and more nimble computer.

That's ridiculous. No one still uses hydrocoptic marzelvanes.

I have a lab coat like the dude in the Transmission video. I actually worked in the "Transmissions & Automotive Electronics" department at Rockwell when that video was produced. Our marketing guy came up with the idea to do it first with a "Driver Input Console/Keypad" used for the very first Heavy Truck on-board data logging computer used to replace DOT Driver log books (finally made mandatory today December 10, 2015) back in 1989. Then the Transmission version of the video was made.

Right.....because Apple manufacturers their own components.

They all buy the same stuff from the same manufacturers, shove it in a different box and throw a different operating system on it.

Quoted from Pinchroma:

You mean the zero day exploit that is only exploitable if you ACTUALLY accepted the 3 prompts telling you NOT TO accept an unsigned, app from an unknown developer on a site with an invalid certificate?

Yeah that ZERO DAY exploit.

Did you know Aurich that you had to accept the execution of that zero day exploit 3 different (4 if the source is non ssl) times to actually get it to run?

Um, yeah. I'm not sure where you're getting your information, but this is 100% incorrect as are all your comments concerning Java. Unless you're on a website from 1985 or using a local java based app, there is no need for it to be installed. Running a Java browser add-on is like punching a hole in the side of a submarine. You might as well install Flash too.

Wow.. NO. The difference is the design. NONE of their shit is COTS packaged products. None of it. Every single piece/board/etc is designed by them. Of course manufacturing is outsourced. Everyone outsources the manu. But they DON'T outsource the design like other vendors.

Go buy any random motherboard and slap it into a macbook. See how far you get

Yeah, just because Apple is using Intel now doesn't mean they're just another OEM, they do a crazy amount of customization. Their towers are unfortunately over-designed and stupid now, but their laptops are brilliant. I'm typing this on a Retina iMac and it's a great machine.

You still shouldn't use the Java browser plugin on them though.

You must be fun at parties. Have you ever been wrong before n your life, let alone admitted that other point of views might have some merit?

1). I'm a hoot. 2). I'm correct. Apple doesn't use COTS anything like every other vendor. They want things to be seamless and the only way to get that is to design it yourself.

I've heard Alex is actually a lot of fun at parties. Although I wouldn't know personally, because every time he catches wind that I'm about to show up, he leaves.

After reading though this topic, one thing become obvious –Nothing to do with pinball!
However it has merit and worth, so moved to the “Serious Section” of the basement.
