In the good "bang for the buck" category, this is one of my favorites. You wouldn't know it's about 13 years old from the way it looks. The Duratect treated titanium is really resistant to scratches and I like the look of the curved sapphire crystal. The perpetual calendar adjusts the date accordingly until the year 2100, accurate to about 10s/mo and no battery changes, so convenient.

Recently acquired my first automatic mechanical watch after a conversation with Kratogen got me thinking. All my other watches are set-and-forget perpetual quartz or high accuracy digital. It occurred to me that since I have trouble reading those small date windows anyway, just setting the time on a dateless mechanical (if it stops) would not be a big deal.

I like that the jump hour complication is a little different than my other watches but still easy to read.

I want a Franck Muller crazy hour..... Now that's a. Awesome mechanism.

Neat looking at first glance, probably difficult to read and not so crazy as it first appears. The hour just jumps five spots instead of one.

Quoted from Spyderturbo007:

I have the dumb question of the day. I was wearing my Boliva that says "Water Resistant 300m" on the face. Can I go swimming with that on?
I did a little reading and most people are saying that you shouldn't wear it in a pool because it's not guaranteed to keep water out.
Thoughts?

From what I've read, a watch rated to 300m should be fine for swimming if the seals are all good. It's recommended that you bring your watch to a shop that can verify the depth rating once a year if you plan to swim with it.

Quoted from Spyderturbo007:

I have a question for all you watch guys. My new Tissot sits on my wrist wrong and I'm not sure how, or if I can, fix it. It doesn't sit in the center of my wrist. I keeps wanting to move to the back. Any way I can manipulate the band? It's getting on my nerves.
It's hard to see in the picture, but it's definitely not in the center of my wrist.

An easy thing to try is reverse the bands. The clasp will close in the opposite direction and the buckle may not be centered but watches that have this issue sit better on the wrist for me.

Recently picked up this Citizen I've been looking quite some time for. Perpetual calendar and ±5s/year accuracy makes it set and forget. Hour hand can be adjusted independently without stopping the watch for travel or daylight savings time.

Really growing attached to many of the older Japanese domestic Citizen watches. Hard to beat value. This model has the E760 movement.

Perpetual calendar automatically adjusts days for shorter months and leap year.

Case and bracelet are hardened titanium, about 5 times harder than stainless steel. Very light and comfortable.

Sapphire crystal.

Bracelet can be micro-adjusted on the fly to one of three positions.

Hour hand is motorized and can be adjusted independently for time changes without stopping the watch. Just push recessed button then turn the crown to adjust forward or backward in one hour increments.

Solar powered. Has two power down levels. Level 1 stops second hand. Level 2 stops all hands and date. Can stay in the dark over 2 years on a full charge; when light hits it, it will adjust all hands and date to the correct time.

Less than $100 on Yahoo Auctions in Japan. Many of the Attessa line with similar features can be picked up for under $50. Due to the excellent materials, the watches often look great, ie. no scratches on the crystal and light scratches to the case and bracelet, even though they might be over 10 years old.

Quoted from NicoVolta:

Maybe this? But it only holds 16... LOL... and so it begins.

Collecting watches can be a sickness, just like collecting pinball machines. At least they're smaller.

Here is my watch storage solution.

Here's a recent acquisition I've been looking a while for. It has a double domed sapphire crystal, 5 second/year accuracy, perpetual calendar and original crocodile strap with deployment clasp.

So how often are people using watches for pinball trades or vice versa? Any stories?

Been trying to trade one of my Citizen eco drives for a pinball machine but no takers so far...

Been enjoying this one lately. Excellent multifunction with one of the loudest alarms.

Cool! I never saw that version....

It is the X33 Gen 1 developed with NASA for their space missions.

Quoted from Nokoro:

Is it all quartz or do the hands move with a mechanical movement?

It's all quartz and hands are motorized.

Mr Jones is having a sale on their watches so it's a good time to pick up the pinball watch. Looks it's $38 less if you pay from the uk site unless there are some hidden charges.

Wish my eye sight is good enough to read the time on this piece

Me too! I've almost pulled the trigger a few times, but as much as I like it, I don't think I'll wear a watch that I can't tell the time on without glasses.

That Oris reminds me a bit of the Citizen Signature Driver.

The E760 movement in the Citizen is one of my favorite quartz calibers, with solar power, a perpetual calendar, independently adjustable hour and multiple power save modes that allow it to stay in the dark for years if put away fully charged. The ultimate set and forget watch.

The only downside I see is it's easy to mess up the calendar if you're playing with the crown setting positions.

Quoted from Astropin:

Newly acquired: The Grand Seiko Heritage Four Seasons "Shunbun" Spring Drive SBGA413. Now that's a mouthful. Pretty much impossible to catch all the details in the dial with photos.
Most of the time the dial looks white or silver. But catch the light the right way and it appears pink. "Shunbun" represents Japan's Vernal Equinox (March 20th or 21st) and is also the time of year of their famous Cherry Blossom trees to bloom. It's a handful of days where everything gets coated in the pink petals from the trees. The dial represents these petals as they cover the surface of a river.
This is my first GS and the finish is is astonishing. Easily above Omega and Rolex. Rolex would still win in the "fit" department with their superior bracelets. But the level of detail here is incredible.

Beautiful. I think it would be cool if Seiko centered the power reserve indicator above the spring drive logo and tilted it to look like a fan.

I got this chinese homage in a couple of months ago. They've come a long way!

Sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel, some AR, sandwich dial, 316L stainless, solid links and partially machined clasp, Seiko NH35 automatic movement.

The only thing that feels cheap is the stamped part of the clasp and the bezel is slightly off.

Running about +/-5s per day. I've only lost 2s in the last 2 weeks by placing it in the right position at night.

Got a good deal at $57 all in on Aliexpress. Makes it easy to try on different styles. Also makes me wonder how much the materials really cost other manufacturers.
