Quoted from Meegis:

As much as I love my watches, I feel bad that I never wear them. I can't wear them at work and they just sit in a case.
Hard feelings just keeping them couped up

Why can't you wear them at work?

For the time being I run a warehouse, but my warehouse is me and one other guy, so I'm constantly lifting, climbing, and physical. I'd destroy a watch back there, and there's no way in hell I'll wear my nicer stuff.

Get a Tegimented Sinn! You won't dent one of those.

http://www.watchbuys.com/store/pc/sinnwatches.asp

"This watch features "Tegiment" technology. Standard steel used by most watch companies has a hardness of between 200 and 240 HV (Hardness Vickers is a common scale used to measure material hardness). The Tegiment layer has a hardness of 1,200 Vickers which is up to five times harder than standard steel."

It's also a comfort and safety thing. When I pick and pack orders it will catch on things. I've tried wearing 'cheapies' and it just didn't work for me.

Appreciate the info though.

Ha I know the feeling. I like watches on the bigger side, and I like to wear them with a suit. Of course with cufflinks there's usually not enough room to wear them

I wear jeans and a hoodie to work. But I get filthy and gross. One day I'll move out and up.

Any Americans looking for a hard worker PM is great

After (this was about 10 seconds in the solution):
20160520_125307_(resized).jpg20160520_125307_(resized).jpg20160520_125254_(resized).jpg20160520_125254_(resized).jpg20160520_125743_(resized).jpg20160520_125743_(resized).jpg20160520_130019_(resized).jpg20160520_130019_(resized).jpg

It looks even better in person....richer. I like that versus letting it patina naturally this is a much more even color. The bonus of course is that if I wish I can bring it back to shiny brass.....and then color it again if I want, and so on.

#711 7 years ago

Looks much better! What exactly did you do? What kind of solution? Was it gold plated? Did you put the whole watch in, or just the case?

This one has a brass case. It's "water resistant" to 100m so I just dropped it in some "Brass-Ager" - http://www.amazon.com/Brass-Bronze-Aging-Solution-Darkening/dp/B005TRO276

It literally took seconds to change! Kind of cool to watch. Like I said, if I want I can bring it back to shiny brass anytime.....but I love the new look.

I had a Samsung Gear S2 that I wore for two weeks straight. Neat features but at the end of the day I just didn't "need" any of them. Not to mention it removed the ability to wear a "real" watch. No thanks.

#721 7 years ago

I guess this is a new record? Patek Phillipe for 2.5 million!

Sure loved playing with them as a kid when my father was a rep for them briefly.
He worked for Longines, and Bulova as well, but gave up on that segment as at that time, the jewelry trade
shows featured, well, uh, "Happy Endings" with large orders....the "old" days!
Didnt suit him.

patek_(resized).jpgpatek_(resized).jpg

#722 7 years ago

Saw that in the news today. Yeah, it's nice....but not 2.5M nice!

#723 7 years ago

Imagine what your net worth and liquidity would have to be to feel comfortable dropping 2.5M on a watch.

#724 7 years ago

Yes, but no pros; strictly LEs!

Quoted from txstargazer3:

I would hope your net is over 50 million to drop 2.5 on a watch....maybe even 100. 2.5 is 5% of your total net at 50 million and 5% seems high to drop on a watch. I think the most I've ever dropped on any watch was 1% ......once. Most are closer to .1. Now pinball machines are another story

Way too much $$$ on my watch and pinball and jukebox collections. Should've struck with stamps ... NOT!

Need to update your watch? I ordered some custom straps from Aaron at http://www.combat-straps.com/. They came in today and I spent the afternoon changing out straps. His work is fantastic and his customer service is second-to-none.

I agree....BUT, when I asked him how to take care of the "Toad Skin" band, he said to ask someone at a leather shop....
(I wanted to know if they need to be "oiled" , etc)

For me, pinball is therapy from the world of watches. Seeing that shiny silver ball bounce around makes me forget about the stresses of the day.

I am a Watchmaker and would like to share my service center. We are the only AWCI Certified watchmakers in San Jose and specialize in Rolex, Omega and other luxury watches. Check us out at www.kromanwatchworks.com

Fine watches and pinball machines have so much in common. They both are a fantastic blending of artistic vision and technical execution, both for the dual purpose of work and pleasure; a joyful embodiment of form and function. So much to love about pinball and watches!

Change of pace... swapped off the dark brown leather for a light tan on the speedy. Speedy's look great on any strap/band/bracelet.

I have got a 2007 Omega Seamaster. I think there is a connection between pinballs and watches in that they are both very beautiful and elegant mechanical machines.

I've been meaning to do this for a long time; this morning I bought a Grand Seiko Snowflake. I love the Spring Drive, the textured face and the smooth motion of the blue sweep hand. Sorry for the poor photos.

I love these watches, but can't afford them, so I would wear one. My sense of shame would only be whelming.

It's on my short list.

Exactly! The level of workmanship and the accuracy of the Spring Drive are amazing. And they are priced well below the Swiss competition.

Best price I could find on Ebay.....and asking for a Best Offer!
ebay.com link » Grand Seiko Spring Drive Sbga001 Steel Silver Dial Bracelet Watch Power Reserve

You are getting tremendous value at that price. I just love what Seiko did this with this line.

#747 7 years ago

There are a couple of titanium ones as well. Wow...list price on the special edition was $7k!

#748 7 years ago

Grand Seiko is a great value for the money. The Snowflake is SBGA011 and has a "bright titanium" bracelet and case. The alloy they use is brighter and harder than most titanium watches, not the usual grey - yet still very light. It wears easier on the wrist than any other watch I have owned. The face is three dimensional and resembles the surface of a snowdrift. Amazing in person. MSRP is $5,500 and excellent discounts are out there.

Here's a couple shots of the nicely decorated movement.
