    So sad
By the end of the year sara told me
So who wants to give me a loan
    Go play

    #2 7 years ago

I've never been there, but I think this is more important news than Batman 66. So sad to hear.

It's because of that one guy who started the thread complaining about MM isn't it? Where is my pitchfork?

Wow. What a shame. This place is immaculate every time I go and all the machines are in great working condition.

Sadly, their location (in a random strip mall in Pelham, NH) doesn't seem to bring in a lot of business and the place is nearly empty every time I go. Without something else going for it (food, drink, good location), I don't see how they could have turned much of a profit. I will definitely be making a few more stops before the end of the year.

I wish there was a definitive closing date so I don't make the trip to find they're closed.

Well I hope everyone involved with the business can land on their feet. Thanks for the good times at your arcade.

It wasn't about a profit for her, she has several hundreds of games and rumored to have enough cash or income. She is an avid collector and staple in the hobby and used the Wiz as an outlet for both personal expression and a place for people to go and have a good time.

The rumor has been swirling around now for a couple years, it has to do with her lease there and the landlords trying to increase it by a lot. My take on it is, it's more about the principle of the lease and not the about the money involved.

Wow, that really sucks. It's not like there's much going on in Pelham, how could the landlords justify a huge rent increase? I guess they don't have to.

Do you know if she's scouting out other locations or is this pretty much the end of the road?

I don't have the most up to date info, but based on some fairly recent conversations I've had, it sounds like there are still a few options on the table for PinWiz. Obviously they aren't all of equal possibility, but before we all jump to conclusions (and I know we love to do that... there are a few Pinsiders thinking JJP is about to debut a cell phone-themed game FFS!), I don't think it's 100% certain that PinWiz closes. I believe negotiations are still ongoing with the landlord, who does want to massively increase the rent, and relocation is a distant but potential opportunity.

I do agree that Pelham, NH isn't convenient for many. However a spot in Salem, Nashua, Manchester, or Lowell could earn like gangbusters just due to the local population being higher AND (maybe even more importantly) easier highway access for all of us that call PinWiz our unofficial vacation home.

Let's nip this one before it begins and grows out of control. Pinball Wizard Arcade is in lease negotiations with the landlord at this moment. The rent increase is happening because our 6 year lease is ending in February 2017. Until negotiations are finalized, we are open for business. Thank you, Sarah. Owner, Pinball Wizard Arcade

    #27 7 years ago

Sarah, have been to PWA several times with my kids. We always have a blast. Whether in your current site or a new site, we will see you again.

Thanks for clearing it up Sarah.

And thanks to this thread for making me think about nothing besides getting up to PWA very soon!

My fingers are crossed. See you in November.

    #38 7 years ago

Pinball Wizard is the best location I've ever been to...hoping it works out for you and your business, Sarah!

    #39 7 years ago

All the best! Hope Pinball Wizard stays open for years to come.

    #40 7 years ago

I would definitely volunteer my time to help with a relocation if needed! Good Luck Sarah!

    #41 7 years ago

Regardless. I need to get my butt up there soon. This scares me.

    I love Pinball Wizard!

    This all sucks.

Lanes and Games hasn't closed yet. But I hear it will be gone after summer 2017. Torn down and replaced with luxury condos. Loss of one of the few candlepin places left, plus regular bowling and an amazing pinball arcade. For those haven't been, it's a true vintage place a la Big Lebowski. All gone for more condos which we have millions of already.

I also heard a rumor Mike will find a new home for his machines in Cambridge. Can anyone confirm?

    Jack

    #44 7 years ago

ugh. That stinks. Lets hope they can work something out...Or maybe the lanes and games folks and sarah could combine forces!

    #45 7 years ago

Keep up the awesome work, Sarah! Hope everything is able to be worked out with the new lease...would be a big loss if not. I haven't been able to make it over in a few months, but the games/location are always kept up so well. Let us know if there's anything we can do to help!

    #46 7 years ago

My favorite pinball place on the east coast. Go there once a year even with the 6+ hour drive

Best of luck in negotiations...we will be up to visit VERY soon.

In case anyone has forgotten how awesome this place is or is on the fence about making the drive, here are some pics from when I was there earlier this week. Great staff, so many great games, and it always seems to hit closing time when I still have tokens in my cup, which is a perfect excuse to go back. Also, since I know this got brought up in another thread, I got three matches while I was there (Tron, TAF, and GNR), and every time I have gone, I've got at least one match. Good luck to everyone heading there for Pintoberfest too!

Will be there early November. Can't wait to dump money in to The Hobbit, Full Throttle, and America's Most Haunted. Oh and Wheel Of Fortune of course.

I had never heard of candlepin bowling. Watched some old TV footage on Youtube and now I'd like to play it.
