I think pinball has more lasting appeal now than in the past. It will probably be around to stay but slightly different than the past booms and definitely not to that popularity. More than likely it will result in pinball specific venues and bar entertainment. The pinball specific venues will hopefully pull revenue from league nights and tournaments. Lots of people are going home for their entertainment. Movies, videogames are consumed at home now and those experiences rival stand up arcade and movie theaters (most times). Pinball is something that can't yet be replicated digitally because it only exists in the real world. As people move more virtual the physicalness of pinball will become a strong draw for them. Hopefully pinball will step up the technological advancement and support the new ways people want to play. Networking I think will become a big part of pinball. Bringing more social elements and competition by making machines Internet enabled.
There's a lot of innovative stuff the current pinball companies haven't even thought of. Maybe new blood is what is needed to move pinball into the future.
