    Perhaps a more important consideration: if you need credit to buy the pin today, what happens if you're in further financial difficulties later? At least in my field, a harmed credit score would be pretty bad - not just for borrowing purposes but even for job position.

    Where I work, financial troubles as documented by a credit report makes one too risky to hire for "privileged" access. We deal with user's private data. We don't want their data compromised "for hire"; we don't want our security compromised "for hire" either. And people with financial issues.. are more easily influenced.

    Some employers simply look at the credit report as one measure of "stability".
