Might be the first time I do Kickstarter. Do I have to use PayPal?

    #3 6 years ago

Actually, they don't take PayPal... Had to use my Debit card when I supported the PAPA TV Kickstarter.

    Great!!!!

    #5 6 years ago

Haha! That's what I thought too... Not a fan of PayPal fees!

And Kickstarter doesn't process your payment until the project is funded.

Was hoping someone would post about this. Looks amazing. Best of luck to John Weeks. What a fabulous vision coming to fruition. Looking forward to helping out.

Who's going to be running the place? Sounds like an epic venture. Wish all well that are involved.

    #8 6 years ago

I dunno... the Vegas place Hall of Fame succeeds because Vegas is such a huge tourist destination. This place is almost halfway between L.A. and Arizona, in Riverside County.

Good point, but I think finding an area like near the coast would be crazy expensive.

    #10 6 years ago

If you have a collection like that, you should be able to find the funding for your project in other ways.

Save the crowd sourcing for things that actually need help.

agreed.. though I've been to vegas 3 times in the last 15 years, and everytime it gets more shady, more crime ridden, and more expensive.

I like the idea of the 2nd tier where they intend on making it a destination in itself by letting you stay in retro airstream RV's. Plus 500 pins compared to.. 150 on location at PHOF?

    150 on location at PHOF?

400 at new place. ( 200 at old one )

    And good news:

You get to pay for it!

You can't compare what Tim has done alone to something that someone is trying to crowd source the cash to build.

    #15 6 years ago

    This would be sweet!

    Quoted from Barron:

True, can't deny that Tim has worked hard to build up what he has. He practically paid cash for the building he's in now ($750k)

Also $300k IS a LOT to ask for on kickstarter. Even Pat lawlor couldn't collect $400k for his new virtual and actual pinballs.

    #17 6 years ago

John Weeks seems like a nice guy, and although I'm not generally a fan of these "gimme" sites, I hope he succeeds. Or at least does better than that last SoCal gimme fundraiser, which was asking for $100,000.00: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/south-bay-pinball-project & received only eighty five bucks.

It'd take such an astronomical amount of work to set up and maintain 500+ games that it makes my head spin! In Banning? It's nuts! But if it happens, I'm that nerd camping out in line to get in first!

    #18 6 years ago

I'm that nerd camping out in line to get in first!

    Ha!
I've been here a week so far and haven't seen a soul, rode in on my bike too with just some "essentials".

    airstream.jpg

Guess I'll just save you the second spot PNN... Burgers will be ready in about 20 min.

    #19 6 years ago

Spot #2 is just fine with me! You stand cover by the door while I hunch over and make us a couple of cocktails!

    #20 6 years ago

Sounds good Molly, after several drinks we can reenact the commercial with the Mervyn's lady chanting, "OPEN OPEN OPEN!"

    Quoted from PinballMolly:

I must admit, I wondered where/who/how all those machines are going to be maintained. Anyone have information on this?

    Quoted from NimblePin:

Ha-ha! Awesome. Can guys be a part of the commercial reenactment too? If so, I'm there.

BTW, Are John and David on pinside? It'd be nice to have a forum to ask them a few questions:

    A) What's the plan to maintain 500+ machines?
    B) I'm also curious about David's involvement. Seems like the pins and the place are Johns, but I see David at every video, interview, etc. Just wondering.

And, instead of asking for money to fund his project, he gives his money away. I'm glad we're both on team PHoF.

Hi RyanClaytor! Great to hear about everyone's interest in the project. We're just waiting for Kickstarter's final approval on our campaign, and it will launch immediately (hopefully, Monday, July 8th).

John and I have known each other for about 10 years, and I'm handling all aspects of communication and marketing for the Museum. John is the expert when it comes to buying, maintaining, and strategy. Although the Museum is a non-profit, it will be run like a business to ensure a quality experience for both pinheads and the general public.

Let us know if you have any questions.

Well, I live about 20 miles south of Banning. Actually, it will be very close to the 10 fwy. and the Morongo casino too. Lots of people pass that way when going to the desert from the crowded L.A./O.C. areas. And it is a major truck route so I would guess it to be a new truck stop as well. John

Good luck man! This would be awesome! I am def donating and will spread the word as much as possible! Im in a rock band and will promote across our sites. So you going to be renting out the rv's at a monthly rate? Haha I would live at this place!

Hi, David! Thanks for chiming in on this thread. I appreciate you introducing yourself and clarifying your roll in this business venture. Much appreciated.

I've been checking this morning but it doesn't seem to be up yet. Pardon my jumping the gun here, but I'm pretty excited to help how I can and see how this progresses over the next month.

    Quoted from davidtrotter:

Let us know if you have any questions.

    Yah, if you don't mind:

    Quoted from RyanClaytor:

...seems like a monumental undertaking for just one guy. Are you guys planning on hiring techs?

Another question I have is about the "pinball restoration workshops" mentioned in the video. Does this mean there would be workshops/lectures to teach pinball tech, or this is simply an area for workers/employees to repair machines?

Alright, David (and John), I wish you guys all the best over the coming month and hope this finds you both doing well.

    Ryan Claytor

    Hi Ryan,

After taking a few extra days to have the non-profit verified by Amazon Payments (which is the only payment system available on Kickstarter), we submitted the Kickstarter campaign to the Kickstarter staff for review (mandatory), and we're just waiting for their final approval. We're hoping that we get word from them today, but it may be tomorrow! (bummer)

In terms of the machines, yes, techs will be hired. John has quite a bit of experience in this area having run arcades in the past, and he is committed to a high-quality experience.

Yes, the ultimate vision is to have workshops and lectures to teach pinball tech. That's the plan! Obviously, one step at a time to get everything dialed in by early 2014 to open the doors.

We're excited to be heading up to California Extreme this weekend to promote the Museum of Pinball and spread the word about the Kickstarter campaign. Stop by and say "hello" if you're around.

Banning is a great place that someone with greater intelligence about the long term path of progress in real estate would use. Space is needed. LOTs of space. These guys are not stupid.

10 Freeway. Next to the Morongo and Desert Hill Premium Shops. Brilliant choice.

Right off the intersection of the 10 and 60. I give them tons of credit for thinking out of the box.

    <facepalm> Lookin' good, Internet.

    #34 6 years ago

Even though this is going to be on the other side of the country and wouldn't be able to go anytime soon I really hope this gets funded and they pull off their vision.

Will be interesting to see what kind of rewards they offer as its very hard to get anything kickstarted without having really cool rewards. It's kind of a necessary evil because most people won't donate more than $20 without some kind of incentive unless they have a lot of extra cash they can part with. And it takes a lot of $20 donations to get to $300,000. Papa did a pretty good job with theirs as I ended up donating a lot more than I originally intended due to some cool rewards. I will end up donating regardless but I will always talk myself into a higher donation if I see something cool I can't live without.

Anyone here besides me try and kickstart that phoney Kobe beef jerky kickstarter. Luckily kickstarter figured out it was a scam before they actually got paid. Even though I didn't end up loosing money I think I'm more mad that Kobe beef jerky doesn't exist then almost loosing $100 to a scam. Apparently Kobe beef doesn't work good for jerky because of the marbling of the fat. Also price point would be way higher than what they were offering it for.

    It sounded soooo good though

    Hi Folks

    Lets all support this Museum
Finally we get to play 500+ games
    Within reach !!
Banning is easy to get to, right of the fwy
    5 min from Morongo

If someone can do this John can !

    #38 6 years ago

Still waiting on Kickstarter to give final approval to the project. We'll let you know as soon as it launches!

    Quoted from davidtrotter:

Neat to hear! My only concern was time constraints on John. One person can only fix/maintain so many machines. ...and I believe that number is less than 500 at one time. Ha-ha!

    Quoted from davidtrotter:

    yes, techs will be hired.

Excellent! I'm sure John is capable (he must be to own that many pins), but it's nice to know he won't be solely responsible for all 18,000 square feet of electronics.

    Quoted from davidtrotter:

I understand it will take some time to get this started, but I am REALLY excited about this part.

Thank you for keeping us updated, David. I certainly don't mind the delay, knowing you guys are essentially waiting on non-profit status approval from Kickstarter. I can only assume everyone else feels the same. We have a pretty supportive community here. Sounds like you've done everything you can. Best of luck with a speedy process, though. I'm sure it's nerve-wracking on your end. We're all ready for you when it launches!

I'm in with the first pledge (only $25 to start, seems insignificant towards $150,000, but that is the way crowd funding works). I hope to be able to visit at some point next year.

I'm pledged for the three day weekend. Man, I really hope this gets funded. A bit of a drive from San Diego, but would be fun to make a family weekend out of it now and then.

    #47 6 years ago

We did an interview with John & David to give them a bit of a hand with this project. In fairness, John did buy the building & grounds already... they are trying to raise the money to finish the project, not completely finance it.

    Best of luck to them!

Terry - that sounds great! We would love your help. At this point, spreading the word about the Kickstarter campaign is really what is needed. As we get closer to the Grand Opening, we'll definitely take you up on the offer.

    #50 6 years ago

I donated and tweeted. It's an ambitious project, short of some deep pocketed people kicking in I'm not that hopeful the Kickstarter is going to make it, but I did my part and best of luck!
