    Quoted from stevevt:

They didn't sell any in the US AFAIK.

Ahh, ok. Had no idea. Is it just a re-skin of something else?

It uses the same ROM as Magic, but it's an original layout. I think. They were all built in Australia.

    Quoted from Yelobird:

More curious on the JJP CE collection and Magic Girl. If prices on Pinside are crazy at auction these should be insane.

I think it's the C and D list titles that are selling for the biggest percentage over market. The games that are already priced high aren't quite going for 2-3x times the going rate. It's hard to apply logic to this auction.

I think its disposable income and something from childhood. I can picture someone spending thousands on something they played in college, with no cares on what the percieved market value is.

    Quoted from mrgone:

Did anyone see how much the Flash Gordon sold for?
    Never mind. I found it.

I think I seen this is up next weekend.
If I remember correct it is the last table to sell.

Based on the trend I see Medieval Madness disappointing.

Maybe Addams for highest price so far?

i think there are two factors at play, collectible as a machine within the hobby, and collectible value within the theme itself. Addams Family has both. Medieval is only hobby.

That’s what I meant. Seems to be the trend.

Except Bad Cats. That’s collectible in no universe.

    Pinsanity…

    #161 2 years ago

Did they just say Reveng from Mars only had two production models? There was one at BOS here in Garland, if it’s the same machine with the video effects / rear screen projection.

    #162 2 years ago

Bidder 1863 & Bidder 1959 bid up every lot and never seem to end up winning one. LMAO

    Gotta love auctions.

I think they were referring to the P2K platform with two games, RFM & SWE1

Never really seen an auction like this where people bid on items way beyond any kind of any realistic value. I don’t buy that there is nostalgia for most of these games. Nostalgia for waterworld? Buyers at auctions typically do some homework to know the value of what they are bidding on. Type into google “what’s the value of waterworld pinball?” and the first hit is the pinside page for waterworld showing the value and recent sales.

Wouldn’t be surprised if MG doesn’t get many high bids. Like Thunderbirds, everyone knows it’s trash. There was no bidding war on TBAG haha

    Monopoly for $10k....Christmas came early!

What’s the BEST deal (relatively speaking) so far?

    #170 2 years ago

gotta be the Hercules at $18,000

    #171 2 years ago

The only prices that make any kind of real world sense so far are those for Centaur, Fathom, Quicksilver, and BMX.

    #172 2 years ago

Flipper Fair just sold for $3,300.

Atlantis looks like the best deal on a classic EM, sold for only a couple hundred over the PS price.

You can have my Flipper Fair with new Shay backglass and lovely yellow cabinet for $3,300! Save on the buyer's premium & tax! Come and get it!

    #173 2 years ago

Quoteable. “Small flippers… I like that!”

The relations between the sales prices and titles in question right here is at least to me the most dumbfounded I've been in this thread.

    #175 2 years ago

Are any Pinsider's paying these prices?

    Quoted from Pinsforfun:

Yep, this is the new normal....

    #177 2 years ago

I have a feeling after seeing these ridiculous prices, we're about to see an influx of ridiculous sales ads.

    #178 2 years ago

Lots of newbies with NI. We're seeing it in Aus too, all that knowledge you may have built up about fixing pins imho will be worth its weight. Like the 5v blly/Williams watchdog circuit, the earth issues with system 80 gottliebs, the time it takes to get an AX relay working on a Gottlieb EM etc.

These people know nothing about fixing games. Lots of cheaper "broken" games too be had in the future or perhaps a great change of career for some?

It’s gonna be tough wrestling these games out of peoples hands for 1/5th of what they paid for them.

I’d just say techs in those areas should triple their rates and expect to be very busy.

    Yep.
Anyone who does restoration knows these prices are idiotic. The games were “in a museum”? Most pinball museums with this many machines can’t keep up with the maintenance. They acquired a big boatload of games, probably because somebody had them in a warehouse from years of being in the coin-op biz and pulling them off route as they got jenky or just we not big earners. Then pinball became a nostalgia craze a people wanted to play again, so these dudes set up giant pinball arcades where some of the games play acceptably, the newer ones are great, but most of what’s on the floor play poorly or basically not at all.
These games haven’t been restored. They’re a mess of ball swirls, sunken inserts, worn artwork, flakey mechanisms, and boards that are on their last legs.
When people realize they aren’t actually enjoying playing their broken down machines, maybe then we’ll see a market correction. Honestly, I would never buy an older machine at this point which is listed as anything other than a project pin. The prices are simply too disconnected from reality. And at this point even the projects are getting to be that way.

watch em' cave in after having that thing sit in the corner somewhere after 6 months or so. I can hear it now "oh just get rid of it" - by the decision maker.

If I get a call from a banning auction buyer you can be sure they are not getting my best service call quote.

If they are willing to pay 500 percent value on a pinball machine I can only imagine what they’d pay to get it running.

    #183 2 years ago

$8200 for an Elvira and the Party Monsters?!

I switched off the arcade streaming portion. Will they leave up the end prices or can someone post the arcade machine prices too? Thanks, pinsiders!

+1 it is a nice novelty and great time waster for this weekend and in two weeks. Doesn't really change my perceptions of prices or the hobby .

    Thanks, @mark532011, for your posts!

Not according to your listed Pinside collection page...

    Quoted from CrazyLevi:

I can only imagine what they’d pay to get it running.

Probably the same as anybody new to pinball buying a brand new machine.

They'll shell out $10K for a game but won't spend $10 to fix it.

    LTG : )

Not a bad price (all things considered) for Flying Carpet. Nip It was pretty tame too.

11500$ for a still available (NIB) Star Wars Premium.
Can somebody please explain this to me?

No. Sorry. I can't. Good question though.

Maybe someone else can enlighten us?

    Theory only:

I am a large buyer from China/Asia/Spain/Japan/Europe/Russia and I am buying pieces to build up my personal collection/business and the machine is here and a few thousand here or there is not impacting the budget allocated for the purchases. Corporate decision is my guess and the particular buyer may like Star Wars and impulse bought it. Or I am completely wrong and it was FOMO from someone who really didn't check what's out there or just didn't care .

    1. We are the Rat
    2. Candle is the Games we want.
    3. Plant is Auctions/ebay/pin market place.
    4. But we are still Trapped in a F#$king glass cage!!!!

    Thoughts.....?

    Bad Science?
Or just a really mean Rat Trainer?

14k for a data east back to the future before tax and fees is all you need to know about the auction. That is what maybe a 5k game max? Has to be non pinball people buying games for their basement or non pinball collectors. 14k is approaching 20k with fees/shipping/tax.

    It's just pure insanity.

These big auctions always go for big money. When I was into console game collecting, I sold a bunch of stuff at auction on eBay starting bids at $0.01 each with no reserve. People paid a ton because I would ship anywhere and because they could get multiple items from one auction. I made more than double the going rate for my stuff and had a thread on Nintendo Age exactly the same as this one. “$XXXX for XX game?!?! Wtf is happening??!??” Multiple purchase and international awareness leads to big money.

That may be a reason why 5, 10 or even 20 games might sell well over recent value in a large auction, but it's not plausible that every machine is selling well over recent value. It's unlikely every successful bidder has no idea they have just bought an average condition game and paid well over its recent value to secure the purchase.
