nice! The color DMD is great in Pinball Magic. I wish they'd do one for Airborne. @ great games!
Chris

I wish I could find someone to sell me one semi-locally so I could color it

Repro stage door set for sale

Quoted from Shenanigander:

So I finally installed the stage doors I had made. They work great. See video. The issue I had is that due to the thickness of the repro doors the original hardware will not fit so you can either modify the doors or change the hardware (which is what I did).
I have 2 sets left and not sure if I will bother making anymore. Not sure the demand is there. $30usd shipping included.
Here is the video I took last night...

Above is post #2033 if you want to have a look at the video.

I have one set left. No plans to make more. $30usd shipping included. Been working great in my machine since I installed them.

It's not too bad. Very minimal wear, but someone did put a lock bar across the coin door at some point.

#2064 2 years ago

Ok, so I have it home and got a chance to give it a serious look over. The cab has been heavily and badly touched up. So I will eventually need to address that and repair the wood damage. It doesn't seem like anyone sells stencils for this table? Is there a source for these? I didn't find anything in this thread.

Also, one of the broken plastics seems to not be in stock anywhere in the US. Does anyone have one of these for sale?

Sent you a PM. I don't think I've ever seen stencils for this game. It was screened, and I vaguely remember seeing a set of decals once on Ebay but can't vouch for how good (or bad) they were.

Has anyone installed the Mantis stage ramp and had trouble getting it to fit? I bought one from Kerry a couple of years ago, and now I'm finally getting around to installing it.
Super quality part, and I have no issues with Mantis, especially since it's been years since I bought it. My problem is that a couple of the mounting tabs don't line up to the holes, especially the tab to the left of the ramp entrance that holds the plastic above it. That one is too close to the front of the ramp and hits the wand driveshaft. Picture shows new ramp on the right. You can see the tab on the new ramp is closer to the ramp entrance.
The rearmost mounting tab on the ramp doesn't line up with the hole in the plastic that screws to it.
My solution is going to be to grind off the tab on the left of the entrance, and drill a new hole in the plastic for the rearmost screw, unless one of you has a better idea!!!

I had a had time getting it to fit properly as well and even talked to Kerry about it in depth via e-mail. Unfortunately I don't remember exactly what I did to resolve it but it's been in my game working well for a few years. I'll see if I can find anything in my archive of pictures but I don't remember drilling any new holes in plastics or anything like that.

Was lamenting about selling the NOS playfield I had a while back and this popped up. It was a good day!! Was listed as used but it’s definitely NOS. Couldn’t be happier.

Hey guys, I've lost two C clips.

One that attaches to part of the flipper mech and another that the solenoid plunger is secured onto the stage door mechanism with.

Any idea what size or part these are?

#2072 2 years ago

My slingshot mechs are really stiff. Sometimes the plunger and mechanism doesn't return to its resting position. I had noticed the slings sometime hit really soft so thought I'd take a look.

Both the arms seem twisted, is this a common issue?
I took one apart to investigate, I tried to straighten the arm and from fiddling with the mech I thought it was the pivot with the large E clip that wasn't moving smoothly.

The sleeve was dirty but didn't seem to be causing much friction, the spring also seemed fine.
If moving the mechanism by hand it would feel stiff and get stuck halfway.

Any ideas? Is this common?
If I were to replace the springs (as they're old anyway!) are the standard bally/Williams sling shot springs suitable?

I might also replace the sling shot leaf switches as they're a mess! Can I use standard leafs like this?
https://pinparts.co.uk/products/1a-120-slingshot-leaf-switch
Or
https://pinparts.co.uk/products/1a-114-standup-williams-bally-slingshot-kicker-switch-no-tab

I didn't think of that. I've got so use to using pinball parts websites that i forget some parts are standard!

#2073 2 years ago

Found out why my slings are firing badly...
The top of the kicker arm is rubbing against the slingshot plastic. So are the leaf switches.

I can't work out how there's not enough clearance.
Is this correct?
Star post -> washer > plastic > washer > nut

I'm going to add an extra washer to the posts to bring the plastic up.

If the way it is isn't wrong then why would it be rubbing?

Measure the star post height, are they too short for the machine?

#2075 2 years ago

My first thought as well

#2076 2 years ago

I'll measure them when I'm home. I did take this photo yesterday though.

I managed to solve it by putting two washers on the two front posts. But shouldn't have to?

20210529_223659 (resized).jpg20210529_223659 (resized).jpgGuys please help!

I was playing and realised the tough to shooter lane solenoid kept firing. Then when my magic mayhem ended it didn't know I'd lost all the balls...

The left through opto is showing as open. No balls in trough.

Where do I begin?

Got people coming over to play pinball tomorrow and can't believe this game has decided to do this! 20210529_223526 (resized).jpg20210529_223526 (resized).jpg

I tried another game and the strange behaviour was gone... But the opto still isn't working. I don't understand.

Could it be left opto is a red herring and it isn't used on pinball magic? It seems a ball would only sit on the left opto if it was a four ball game.
I'm so confused now.

First use a digital camera or a cell phone camera to look to see if all the transmitter optos in the trough are lit when the game is on. Sounds like the one for the left should be out. If so, I would change all the transmitter optos in the trough, which is 4 of them.

I tried that yesterday but couldn't see anything on any of the optos. Do you have to be pointing the camera directly at them? Maybe I need to take the boards out to see?
Is the clear opto the transmitter or receiver?

I'm confused why the trough left opto is showing as blocked but when I tried to reproduce the issue I couldn't, the trough released the one ball it needed for Magic Mayhem and didn't keep firing.
Now I don't understand what the left optos purpose is.
Is there is three balls in the trough one occupies the trough eject solenoid. One sits on opto right and the third on opto center.

When a ball drains it hits the out hole switch and is fired into the trough. No ball ever sits on opto left.

Yes. Power has to be turned on the game.

It works well with an Android phone. If you have an iPhone, I think you have to use the other camera lens, think called the forward view.

Yes, 3 optos in the trough. If a transmitter opto is burnt out, it will register as closed.

Also test the trunk optos as well.

I haven't investigated further... Yet
The left trough still shows blocked, but the game was running fine! I can't reproduce the issue, so I'm unsure when that left trough opto is needed?

It is needed. May depend on certain switch hits or amount of locked balls. You will know if your ball never ends.

I will see if I can check my trough optos this week sometime.

I know I am using the latest game code v1.0.12.. What version do you have? Also, do you have a ColorDMD installed?

No colour dmd.
I think mines on the latest code. I'll have to check.

Definitely want at least v 1.0.6. One of the oldest versions has issues with the elevator on the float the ball trick.

Quoted from PinballManiac40:

I'm celebrating getting our Pinball Magic working again after a couple of years. It never worked 100%, and now it does.
I just fixed several opto problems the way several Pinsiders have described by taking the opto boards off, sucking all the old solder off of the LEDS, and resoldering them. That fixed my genie trough optos and stage opto. Definitely try that first before buying parts. All the optos have handy connectors that unplug, nothing to unsolder to get them out of the game.
If you need to get at the stage opto boards, they aren't too bad to get out if you take out the 4 wood screws that hold the stage under the playfield and pull it down an inch or two. I also took out the 2 screws holding the stage door solenoid to the stage bracket and lowered the stage door assembly out of the way. Then, the optos were accessible and almost easy to remove.
I used the "Diagnostics" menu item under "Feature Tests" (I think) that says "Show Hidden Balls". That will show you the status of all of the ball-detecting optos on one live map. As you trigger the optos, they will show up on the map if they are working, or they won't react if they are "dead" (or need resoldering).
I tested the optos before reinstalling them by plugging them back in and pointing the LEDs at the receivers while looking at the "Show Hidden Balls" screen. Made it very easy.
Glad to reactivate my Pinball Magic club membership! Floating ball is now working thanks to SilverUnicorn !

Joined the club yesterday.

Is my first capcom. Seller even had a box full of spares taken from a populated playfield which hangs on the wall.

Curious to explore the technique of a capcom. Am out of space is a bit of an issue however …. Known problem among us

Looks like a nice example. Owner had it like 15 years.

Had to take off the backbox to get it down to ground floor. What I already noticed during breakdown is that one yellow wire appears to be broken. It runs on one side to the top right corner of the pcb in the right top corner.

Can it be that this wire is broken on purpose? Do t guess so but just checking.

Also I heard something about Groundwire issues with Capcom. Any advice on this ? Thanks in advance.

I never heard of such issue. I had my game since 2010.

Sure, might be broke on purpose as if something may be locked on. Definitely should be connected somewhere. Roughly what connector does it stretch to? I will not be able to look at my game until late tonight.

In the meantime, I'd imagine, coil test, switch test, lamp test, or switch may show something is not working. I don't know the wire colors in the game to know what circuit it may have come loose from.

I had very few problems with my game and it has been to 3 pinball/arcade shows, been lent out to 3 or 4 people over the years as well.

Seems to be missing at the bottom right power supply connector as well as a red wire. Probably should even double check the manual. 20210615_073313 (resized).jpg20210615_073313 (resized).jpg

Now up to a full tear down. Man, getting to the back of the playfield ain’t easy with a Capcom. Am I missing something or is it just a PITA?

Just tilt the PF up a bit, then pull it toward you a bit, which allows the back to be tilted up.
Give it a try, although hold on tight

Ok cool! I was pulling the whole playfield forward like 2 feet beyond the front of the cabinet and then propping it up on something very carefully. Was precarious and not easy to do by ones self!!!

#2097 2 years ago

SilverUnicorn did a great vid on it back a few years

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/pinball-magic-club/page/32#post-5022837

#2098 2 years ago

Wow. Great advice. Thanks.

The video does show a different end position and the picture of the law but think from video position to the law picture is just a matter of lifting the back of the playfield.

Gonna try this out for sure. Am after all only half way.

Thanks again guys !!

#2099 2 years ago

That is the video I watched before (thanks Chris for that) and used that method and propped up the front of the playfield so it did not rest on any of the mechs. The new twist with thelaws's method is pure magic!! It all makes sense now. The other way worked but was awkward! Good job Capcom!
