PC gaming is about 5 years ahead of consoles and you don't need a crazy expensive machine to beat a console. Any computer with a half decent video card is better than a console. The only thing that I like about consoles are sports games.
Bang for your buck, video games beats the hell out of pinball. Pinball is something else but you could have a ridiculous setup for the cost of a couple pins. But pinball is different.

I don't know if I would say ruined it but a lot of PC games are not ported from "dumb" consoles to the PC, which sucks because they aren't trying to take full advantage of the hardware and the bar is being set by technology that is 5 years behind. With titles, PC is basically ignored for sports titles but it does have the best selection for 3d shooters and I think that is because 3d shooter console guys with money often migrate to PCs.
