I guess it's just me but, however many thousands of pinball machines have been made over the years, I get lost when I start reading the abbreviations people are using. I need some type of urban dictionary for pinball abbreviations. It reminds me of one of the commercials where the parents are trying to talk to their kids and the teens use nothing but the abbreviations for the whole conversation.

I must admit, I struggle sometimes with abbreviations. I assumed there was a list somewhere.

Generally speaking, it's kind of the same games that are talked about and abbreviated and doesn't cover he full list of pinball's past. It's more like the most popular games and such.

A lot of times, the abbreviation has an underline when it appears on the forums, and you can hover (or tap on mobile) on it to reveal the full title of the game.

Such as: TAF, AFM, IJ, POTO, MB, JY, FH, DM, TS, and so on.

Thank you I had no idea about that

Problem is it takes too long to load the the graphic. I hover and it says "loading..." and if it sits there for 5 seconds I just move on.

Even while loading (assuming you are hovering over the abbreviation), the corner of your browser should show the link it is pulling from. That link has the game title in it.

It looks like there's a bug where you can immediately jump from one abbreviation to another where it gets stuck on "loading" if you don't wait for the bubble to completely fade out.

Normally, they aren't in a list like that, so it isn't typically an issue.

This bug annoys the hell out of me! As a mobile user it can quickly get annoying. I found the easiest way to get rid of it is to tap on a machine name twice and THEN click the next one you want, but sometimes it will just bring you to the game page and I don't want that!
As for @ashwood486, the abbreviations mixed me up a lot at first, bless Pinside for having such a well polished UI with all the bells and whistles that allow us to hover and have the game name pop up!
Just learn basically the top 10 or 20 pins and you'll be fine! The one I always seem to forget is TSPP!

The old ones people use them for is to hard to remember for me like BOPP, TA, SMDM lol

One thing that is annoying with abbreviations is an abbreviation can be the same for multiple games.....for example when people use WW for White Water. WW is Whirlwind. White Water is WH2O.

There are more examples where abbreviations can be more than one game.......not to make it a pain in the ass but maybe it would be good to have a permanent link to generally accepted game abbreviations and a brief message somewhere for all to know there is an abbreviation list. So many new people that do not know them. I know when I got in the hobby about 7 years ago I had to learn them and it wasn't difficult but you had to learn them if you wanted know quickly what game someone was talking about.....can't tell you how many times I had to google an abbreviation. Should be required reading before anyone can post LOL!

If it is "loading" for a long time, just move the mouse away and back to the abbreviation, it will appear immediately. At least that works for me.
