I always think it's funny that we call the ball a "pinball" as if it's covered in little spikes...

    #53 6 months ago

My foosball, skeeball and ping pong “entertainment objects” are tables. My “pins” are pinball machines
When someone asks me how many I own (and quietly whisper how crazy they think I am), I might say I own 14 pins. I do so begrudgingly.

Like to think of myself as a product of the 70’s pinball renaissance, so I am skewed towards the term pinball machine.

Forgive my recycling of a picture that I have posted earlier. 1976 bias...

It is called a "piece-of-shit machine" very often when you drain a shot away from starting multiball.

Now I’m curious to hear what are all the terms used in other countries.

Thank you for participating in the poll and discussion. I love learning more about the hobby. Very interesting that around the world it has different names

I agree. Of course it doesn’t really matter, call them what you want to- It’s just a discussion about what terminology we use. Seems like Americans and Europeans have different terms on many things. Just trying to have fun

Where is the voting option of Pinny! Which I never use BTW.

Yeah, in that famous pinball-book, the italian author calls 'em pinnys...and he makes it sound like a common term for them. Only place I've seen that until now.

pinnys was a a term used in Australia for a long time, people still say to me sometimes "how many pinnys do you have now" my reply is "you really don't want to know"

I cringe everytime someone refers to them as tables, you eat on a table, not on a pinball machine!! Probably blame it on the line from Pinball Wizard, but just because it's in there, doesn't make it right!!

A couple of kids in league say tables and every time i hear it i want to just pack up shop and shut down the tourney, but i just grind my teeth and smile and say "yeah its a pretty sweet pin isnt it?"

Sign that my adult son made for me for the Christmas after I first got into the hobby. I don’t think I had ever referred to a “pin” to him before that. It's now the term I use most often.

Oh I use "tables" big time. Probably comes from playing Pinball Arcade where they would release "Table Packs" of new pins. I like the term, and in fact I often use my pins as actual tables/shelves all the time, so it works on that level too! But I use many terms interchangeably.
